This doesn't count, but thought should get a mention. My brother and I were playing one of the Smackdown Games (Can't for the life of me remember which one) and of course since the commentary track sucks on those games he and I were doing our own, then in a fit of of pure genius I shout out.

"Oh my god, Kane is doing stuff!"

And since then can't help but imagine JR shouting that out from time to time. Of course if he did that is like instant career death but still, worth a chuckle

Oh I dunno... if JR can get away with describing Kane as a 'burnt, one-eyed monster' then I'm sure he could get away with that one...!

I think the constant chants for J.R. over Cole proves that J.R. was one of the best commentators the business has had.

For me it's like this.

1. Jim Ross
2. Tony Schiavone
3. Jesse Ventura
4. Joey Styles
5. Matt Stryker

Honorable Mentions: Taz & Mark Madden just because of how much crazy shit they said(in Madden's case) & say(in Taz's case) on a weekly dealio.

Getting to commentary, the best line ever....

"STONE COLD! STONE COLD! THE TEXAS RATTLESNAKE!"

-- JR

I don't think I there was an episode in the Attitude era when I didn't hear that screamed at least 20 times.

There are a couple that fit the bill for me.

The more obvious one is another of JR's immortal lines, during the HIAC match between Taker and Mankind at KOTR '98. Observe:

"Good God Almighty, Good God Almighty, that killed him! As God as my witness, he is broken in half!

Unreal. Iconic, to say the least. And always raises a few goosebumps, even when I watch it today. Also, hearing Jerry Lawler abandon his happy-go-lucky style and actually say something in all seriousness is pretty special for me. The same match, for instance:

"That's it, he's dead."

Simple. No room for misinterpretation. Just Lawler saying it how he saw it, and genuinely concerned for Foley's health. Taking on from this point, another set of 'commentary' was at Over the Edge 99, when the announce team had to deal with Owen Hart's accident live on air. Both JR and King were model professionals, but it's chilling even now listening to both commentator's grave tones as they try to explain exactly what is happening.

The footage can be seen from approximately 1:42 on the following video --> JR and Jerry Lawler on Owen Hart's Death

While I love Jim Ross, the Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan combo runs circles around anything JR came up with.

Here's just one example:

Gorilla- He hit him in his lower external protuberance...

Heenan- Why do you always use words nobody understand?

Gorilla- It's fun. You should try it.

(Jobber gets boot to stomach)

Heenan- He kicked him in the uterus!

Goriila- WILL YOU STOP...
