Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Favre began telling team officials on Monday night that he will not return for another season.

Zulgad also reports that Favre plans to issue a press release later today.  Apparently, Favre's injured ankle "has not responded" after surgery and rehab.

Jay Glazer of FOX also reports that Favre has begun communicating the message to teammates.  Per Glazer, he has cited wear and tear on his body as the reason for calling it quits.

Where have I seen this before? Oh yeah, last year.

It was a two year deal with the Vikings.

Everyone on ESPN is still expecting him to come back, which I hope wouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

For those of us (OK, so that's me, the Aussies and the Brits) who don't care about football, I think what we can take away from this thread is that even football has its Terry Funk.

For those of us (OK, so that's me, the Aussies and the Brits) who don't care about football, I think what we can take away from this thread is that even football has its Terry Funk.

Well, I'll put it this way. He played 16 years as quarterback of the Green Bay Packers. After his 15th year, he pondered retirement, prompting the Packers to draft a quarterback in the first round. He came back for what appeared to be his "last year", again pondering retirement at the end of the year.

He decided to retire, prompting the Packers to change their offense and suit it around their new guy, Aaron Rodgers. Favre then decides he wants to come back, well after training camp is over. (When they install new plays and gameplans.)

Left to choose between their new guy and their "legend", the Packers decide to trade Favre to the New York Jets. After one decent-to-mediocre year with the Jets, Favre decides to retire again. He also decides to forego training camp again, attempting to come back again once it it is over. The Jets just decide to release him.

He signs on as a free agent to the Minnesota Vikings, the rival to the Green Bay Packers. In one year with the Vikings, he has a career year, getting his team to the conference finals.

Now after that year, he is announcing his "possible" retirement, for the fourth year in a row.

The CWF equivalent to him would probably be Joey "Underpants" Haynes. He has came back to this version of CWF as Jeremy Muse and then Noah Sweet, "retired" both times on his way out, and now he is roleplaying for the e-fed called Hostility. I guess the itch never goes away.
