15th May 2006 Miserable day today. Amber’s parents funerals- she’d told me that she was actually burying the ashes seeing as she’d asked for them to be cremated, though secretly I’m sure she wanted them to rot. Not many people turned up- couple familiar faces from UCA, herself and McQuade were the only ones I recognized- the remainder of people were probably people she’d met along the way. Even the weather was against us, the rain was coming down with a vengeance- maybe that had a bit to do with the lack of ‘mourners’. The strangest thing though, was that Amber didn’t cry- she stood their stony eyed, dressed completely in black amidst the pouring rain. At the wake afterwards- Amber and her ‘band’ if you will did sort of a tribute performance, though the irony lay in the choosing of the song, ”Call Me When You’re Sober” by Evanescence. I only spoke to her briefly- she was usually surrounded by people all trying to express their condolences but it seemed obvious she just wanted people out of her face so I gave her room and timed my approach as to not come across in the same obnoxious way. She said so little, her voice barely above a whisper, not willing to give anything away emotion wise and frankly I didn’t blame her. Something had died inside of her, it showed through her eyes Her eyes looked like they’d finally lost their fire. |
