2nd of July 2003 Amber had been seeing me for many months now, I’d watch her grow over time- hell, I’d helped celebrate her 15th birthday, and I’d even bailed her out of some sticky situations with the police- seeing as she’d managed to get herself expelled from another school- why? Assaulting another student... I’d learnt not to be surprised by what she did in these months. She’d learnt to open up to me, told me everything- I was the one she was confiding in, it was strange to have this young girl placing so much trust in me, don’t get me wrong- I had people trust me before but she, she was different- I had said this all along but it still never really explained the why of it all. We met only the other day, she wanders into my office- that same smirk on her face like it’s a permanent expression yet there was something different in her eyes, a glimmer of hope or perhaps I was imagining it, my mind showing me things I wished were there. She sat in the chair opposite me and we begun our discussion, talking about recent events- updates on her recently started relationship with a guy named Cameron, she seemed really into this guy like it had brought a new enthusiasm to her and it was nice to see that thing may have finally started looking up for her... Another breakthrough which she was stoked about, but I wasn’t quite as stoked when she told me she had started training for wrestling, she had told me where but I assumed that it wasn’t a main-stream place judging by the impressive bruises she proceeded to show me. I’d never really been into professional wrestling, well; to be honest I’d never given it the time of day- I mean, people trying to kill each other for a belt wasn’t exactly my idea of great television... I guess I shouldn’t judge, I’d never watched it, as I said I just didn’t find it as something I’d wanna watch- call me judgemental. She however kept on my case and when she announced during a session that her friends and herself were starting their own promotion, I couldn’t help but be excited for her, yet rather sceptical... Maybe things were finally going right for her, I could only hope things were looking up for her but at the same time I knew that if things started looking up- that she wouldn’t want to talk to me anymore and my research would come to a screeching halt. Was it wrong of me to hope that somehow things wouldn’t look up as highly as they possibly could for this 15 year old? |
