Well we have another (on time!) show in the books, our twenty eighth show since the relaunch to be exact. This one is near and dear to my heart, a project Jonty (Elisha) and I have been working on for some time, him much longer than myself and others. I hope you enjoy this one, it's a bit of a light read compared to some of our shows because there are less segments and matches, but please leave your review of the show and what you enjoyed about it! https://cwflives.wixsite.com/cwfwrestling/ep-28-cwf-2318-evo-18 What did you think of the concept for the show? What did you think of the concept for the show? Overall Rating (1-10, 10=best, 1=Worst): 3 - 4 Sorry to say but in all honesty this show didn't resonate with me. I'll be up front and say I disagreed with the result of my match and with how my characters were treated in the match. But I'll separate that from the show. I think it was a great concept, and appreciate the ambition behind it but I feel it it fell short in its execution. Not sure what exactly what it was but most matches FELT fixed/angled. Not saying they all were or not but that's the impression I got. On top of the matches and segs just being confusing with unclear or ambiguous endings. Still appreciate all the effort that was put into it and am thankful of Rish for trying something different for everyone. It's just in this instance for me this show was a dud. |

I like the idea of the one-off show that doesn't necessarily impact the main storyline of the fed, but two things did come to mind for me. 1) Since this replaced an Evolution, we now have a two-show arc to build a story to the PPV. 2) Since it was in 2318, it couldn't tell any of the "in-canon" stories. I've done one-off shows in other feds but they've always been things like "stuck at the hotel during a blizzard and we need to keep ourselves entertained" or "There was a terrorist action at a show and the company has brought in a shrink to talk to everyone." Spec fiction like this - the dystopia future, etc - it's really hard for me to wrap my brain around. It was an interesting concept and I think it came off pretty well, but I would likely not participate in another sci-fi type idea: it's not really my bag. |

Short form from me this week... What did you think of the concept for the show? Overall Rating (1-10, 10=best, 1=Worst): 6.5 What worked? What didn't? I liked the idea, the concept was great, as pretty much anything Jonty comes up, the details were amazing! That being said, I personally never liked dystopia or science fiction (I am one of the few people on earth that have not seen any Star Wars movies, for example, and I feel absolutely no urge or desire to change that fact...), so I did not feel a whole lot of investment into the concept personally. And I could see a couple of people just not being able to really wrap their minds around stepping into something completely different like this. Would you be interested in another themed show? Not necessarily the same theme, could be historical, fantasy based, in outer space, anything? Strongly depends on the theme... Best Match: Hard to say, since there was a lot of odd ones, but I'd say Ataxia vs. Dorian. Just the whole morphing of Ataxia was fun and wildly creative. Best Commentary Line: Not a whole lot to choose from, but these two are tied for me: Jim Runt: This Nerezza is one strong puppy! Mike Goulash: He’s a rabid dog? That would explain a lot! Mike Goulash: Eh, we’ve seen worse. Remember the other week, the guy who actually got impaled on one of the posts? Jim Runt: I’ve been told we’re not to discuss the Desfait Incident anymore. Best Segment: Not With A Bang and The Trumpet Honorable Mention: BK68310 Best Surprise: A LOT of stuff was surprising here... Best Feud/Storyline: Rish vs. SSRI MVP of the Week: Jonty, I am amazed every time how much detail he can come up with for stuff like that! Ending Thoughts/Predictions for the next show: Back to the grind, I predict it to be a very action packed one, because we only have two Evos to get us to Paradise, bay bay! |

Going to keep going with the off-format reviews lol. So possibly it’s a result of my personal investment in the SSRI story arc, but I really loved this concept. Partially I absolutely love dystopia fiction and I never get to write it! And I have to respectfully disagree with Pete - again, possibly due to the fact that I’m heavily involved in this particular storyline, I feel like I was able to use my RP for this show to develop stories in the “canon” timeline. Certainly I planted a couple of Easter eggs (to horrendously mix my metaphors!) for my plans for the next few months. But going to the show itself, I enjoyed it. Speaking as a matchwriter it was... interesting, to use the additional level of brutality and violence that this setting allowed. Not sure I’d necessarily want to do it every week, but that’s exactly the purpose of this sort of show. Would I want to do another one? ... maybe. I feel like this show worked specifically because of how much lore has been built surrounding the SSRI - I was able to write (though I say it myself) one of my best pieces specifically because there was such a rich world to draw on. I’d certainly be open to the idea, I just don’t think I could do as much with it. |

I just wanted to comment on one thing because to be honest reading back on it, it kinda upset it at first. Although this show was very different than the rest of CWF's shows, and in turn the matches read a lot differently, this was NOT an entire show full of angled matches. Each particular handler has their own respected opinion and if they don't like the outcome of a match that is fine, but I just wanted to point out that this show as far as angled matches go was just like any other show- a match is a fully RPed & judged for match UNLESS both or all handlers are aware ahead of time that said match is going to be angled, then they can decide on what they want to do as far as RPing, match writing, etc.. Meaning- I never attempt to back anyone into an angled match. I myself think that they serve a great purpose on occasion, and used in the right way can help both handlers just as much as an RPed for match, but I never angle a match without permission and this card to my knowledge only had one truly angled match (unless you count Dorian/Ataxia which I guess turned into one in the end) which was MJF vs. AnHellica. I would have loved to have Dani come back and be able to RP one last time as Angelica, but I was happy with just getting her permission to use the character on the show period. Sorry for that rant, I'm done now.

Oh, absolutely - I'm doing a little bit of a nod to this show in my 19 RP intro. I don't think this show was poorly planned , poorly written, or poorly executed. The only actual criticism I have of it is that it took away from a "normal" Evo and only gives us two shows to build to the next PPV. Everything else I've said in a less than positive mindset was done so from my own limitations as a writer. |

What did you think of the concept for the show? Overall Rating (1-10, 10=best, 1=Worst): A good seven. What worked? What didn't? I am sort of biased because this show is something Jonty/Elisha and I have talked about doing for some time now. I won't however say it went off completely perfectly- we could have used a segment or two more and certainly a no show or two less, but other than that the storylines that we ran through this show and the way everyone portrayed the "future" of CWF was certainly a hell of an interesting read. Would you be interested in another themed show? Not necessarily the same theme, could be historical, fantasy based, in outer space, anything? To be honest with you I'm not a sci fi fan, the only reason I loved the idea for this show right from the beginning is the pure genius of the man behind it. The invention of the SSRI/Institute and all the subsequent characters and how it has effected nearly the entire CWF roster...and how that has now lead us to do something so wild like a show 300 years in the future was awesome. However, I would be skeptical to do another themed show unless it was as well thought out as this one, some time well in the future (the real life future lol), and also probably not science fiction based. Best Match: I really enjoyed the rendition of MJF "versus" Anhellica. Really enjoyed all the matches to be honest with you, because they were so much different than the "norm", and that includes writing the Cali vs. Nerezza match- I had a lot of fun writing a First Blood "in the future" match. Can't really pick my favorite, if I had to maybe Raynebow Dash vs. Sir Ocelot just for it's sheer madness. Best Commentary Line: Byson: For fuck sakes Freddie! I thought you were ready!?! Byson unleashes with a hard slap across the face that sends Frederick off into a trance. Jim Runt: That's one way to motivate your partner! Mike Goulash: He slapped the piss out of him. Best Segment: Although each were great and really pushed this 2318 forward, there was no segment even close to The Trumpet. This segment was the crowning achievement of all segments in CWF as far as I'm concerned, what a fucked up and scary look into the future. This line "The beasts swarm together as a single mass, then explode, dispersing through the crowd, into the sky and out into the world. Around the Coliseum, the crowd begins to scream as the beasts devour their flesh, reducing humans to skeletons in a heartbeat." ...My lord! Honorable Mention: But With A Bloodbath. I absolutely loved all the work Pete did this week with the "one week feud" with Angelica. I SO hope we could some day convince Dani to actually come back and do this feud, because the best females in CWF history need to face each other for real yo! Best Surprise: Being the fedhead not much surprises me. A lot of great stuff though, twists and turns galore. Best Feud/Storyline: MJF/Anhellica. It's not a real feud but it felt like it was reading through this show. MVP of the Week: Jonathan Thompson for creating the 2318 show. Hats off, bro, I hope we did it justice. Ending Thoughts/Predictions for the next show: I have heard the comments about there only being two shows left to promote Paradise. While I agree with those complains, I would say that there is an option to add another Evolution but in my honest opinion I don't find it completely necessary. I think everything can be made at least decently within the next two weeks, especially because some of the feuds are continuations anyway and maybe some that aren't could always continue onto Golden Intentions because we're going to need more matches than just the rumble. As far as predictions, I predict or at least hope we can get some feuds hot as quick as possible. Let's get this going, ladies and gents! |

What did you think of the concept for the show? Overall Rating (1-10, 10=best, 1=Worst): 5 What worked? What didn't? The concept was really interesting, but personally it was sometimes difficult for me to fully understand what was going on due to the change of context, although that might be that I was use to certain characters being presented in a certain way. No necessarily the writer's fault, it's more of a 'me' shaped issue. Would you be interested in another themed show? Not necessarily the same theme, could be historical, fantasy based, in outer space, anything? Would be open to it, just depends on the setting. Best Match: MJF and Anhellica. Weaved in nicely with the show and it's setting. Was one of the few things that had me hooked. Best Commentary Line: Nothing really stood out. Best Segment: The Trumpet Best Surprise: The concept. Best Feud/Storyline: MJF vs Anhellica MVP of the Week: Thompson for putting it all together. Ending Thoughts/Predictions for the next show: |
