Second Chance
---
The young man knew he wasn’t allowed in the trophy room, everyone bar the father of the household were strictly forbidden to enter.
Not that it was much of a trophy room.
It was more of a small study adorned with a rather lacking collection of memorabilia, accolades and awards signifying a former career as a professional wrestler. The fact that the father arrogantly (some would say desperately) referred to it as a trophy room and demanding everyone follow suit, was a good indication of his desperate clinging to the past, to a career ended too soon and his bitter resentment toward the fact.
Something he made well known on a regular basis.

Quietly the young man left the trophy room. He felt justified in breaking the cardinal house rule, surrounding himself in the tokens of the past career to further strengthen his resolve and inspiration.
It was not an easy decision to make.
He turned to look towards the bedroom of the father and mother, the door closed.
No sounds travelled through the house.
The young man had gotten quite adept at sneaking around and out of the house, so he wasn’t worried about waking them. The risk however was great, if he was caught then his life as he knew it would be over in a most dramatic fashion. His movement would be restricted and his freedoms limited.
But it was a risk worth taking.
Sacrifices had to be made.

As the young man passed the bedroom of his younger sister he faltered, dragging his feet that suddenly felt like iron weights.
Doubt filled his head.
Could he really go through with this?
Could he really leave her all alone?
Every fibre of his being was screaming for him to stay and tears began to well in the corners of his eyes.
He must.
He would never forgive himself if he didn’t do this.

He gently pulled the door to his sister’s bedroom partially closed, hoping if she was out of sight, she would quickly fall out of mind.
There was one final thing to do before leaving.
The young man placed a note down onto the dining table, and then made for a window in the living room he had ‘conveniently’ forgotten to close before going to bed. As he had many times before he slipped to the outside of the house and softly slide the window closed behind him. The young man checked his surroundings, the street was silent and veiled by the darkness of the night. It would not do to be seen by any of the neighbours and have the police called. With a long, drawn out breath the young man steeled his resolve and started walking. He stopped and paused, turning around to look at his home. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t planning on coming back, if he was welcome after this, he just knew that he couldn’t stay.
One day, when he had made something of himself he would return and he hoped beyond hope that on that day he would be welcomed back with open arms.
Failure was not an option.

The young man had quite the journey ahead of him, taking a taxi to the Philadelphia International Airport and from there a red-eye flight to Leeds, England. All his aspirations now rested on one fateful decision, one that was out ultimately of his hands, because if the Academy refused to take him in, then all of this would have been for naught.
That was something the young man refused to accept.
