We see the study of The Shadow, the fireplace blazing to keep the cold and humid air of the dreadful fall weather outside. He is sitting at his desk, on the phone, playing with a pencil. It is clear that he is unhappy with who he has on the other side.

"What are you trying to tell me? That none of this was your fault?

No, you are the doctor, it is your responsibility to check into every possi...

No, you did not everything you could! She had questions she needed answers to..."

His voice is getting more agitated and he breaks the pencil with one hand as if it was a matchstick...

"What are you talking about??? She gave you all the questions, but you ignored them every single time!

No, you listen to me now! When things got worse, she needed answers, she needed help, but all she ever got from you was more pills, different pills, different schedule!"

He slams his fist on the desk, scattering papers.

"I know that it will not bring her back, but there has to be justice and if I can avoid anybody else having to go through the same, I will do whatever it takes!"

He slams the receiver onto the phone with a sickening crack. He hangs his head, face in his hands, sobbing from both sorrow and anger.

"She will pay for this, they will pay for this..."

With a swipe of his arm, he clears half the table from the same medical journals and magazines that had littered it the last time. He opens a drawer of his desk, pulling out a package, wrapped in rough cloth with an illegible stamp on the fabric. He carefully unwraps it and reveals a beautifully leather-bound book. Even though it obviously is old, it is in surprisingly good shape.

"You leave me no choice..."

He opens it and the thick, heavy pages are full of arcane symbols and drawings.

"I was told to trust the doctors, I was told that God would make everything right... You all have forsaken me..."

He almost reverently turns the pages... His voice has lost its anguish, has lost its anger, but is replaced bu something new, something sinister...

"You will feel my revenge and nothing will stop me now..."

Fades to black...
