So in Latin Class, we're learning about Roman Britain and all the stuff there.

We're talking about the ruins and the palaces and the ancient towns and streets.

My question to you guys is have any of you like seen these or went to a museum about it? Have you guys taken British History Pre 500 AD and learned about this stuff?

I want to see what there is to know about Britain during the time of the Romans.

Yeah, I've been to Fishbourne on a school trip, but all it basically is is a shiteload of mosaics (which are quite cool), and then like some mounds of very old marble, the ruins are literally ruined, not much to see. We did the Romans iirc a few years ago, but we didn't go into that much detail, or at least the kind of details I'd expect you need because I was 10/11. Plus, we mainly learned about battles/historic events of the time, and less about the place in general. We weren't there, your guess is as good as mine.

All I know is, they came, they saw, they conquered. And they built a shiteload of straight roads and towns.

and we learned that that the Romans made two main streets, Fosse Way and Watling Way and that one of them (I think Watling)is still in use.

Has anybody driven on it or walked on it?

Well yeah sort of, I've been along the A2 and the A5 roads. Watling STREET not Way has basically been redone with modern concrete/tarmac and lines on it to make almost a completely different road. However, apart from a few parts of it, it is largely the same route, just souped up a little with lots more side roads it is no longer all one road, with most of the parts of the original road still there, but under different names. The A2 and A5 make up the bulk of it though.

Fosse Way isn't really in use tbh. I think it was 150-200 miles long whereas Watling Street was 250-300 miles so a bit of a difference. A few very small parts of it do make up a few very short roads in between villages/towns that have been repaved and some of it is done up to make junctions between motorways, but nothing anywhere near the full length of the road can be easily viewed.

Streets isn't a very suitable word with that sort of length tbh, but you know! And as for having driven along the A2 to Dover, I can't remember it being any different from any other road I've been on, so it must have originally been very good and very straight, but you can't see anything of it, it is all probably about a foot underground beneath the new stuff.
