Type(s): Dark / Rock
Base Stats: 100 HP / 134 Atk / 110 Def / 61 Spd / 95 SAtk / 100 SDef - Total 600
Trait(s): Sandstream - Summons permanent Sandstorm. Decreases wild encounter rate when in a sandstorm.

Weakness(es) x4: Fighting.
Weakness(es) x2: Bug, Grass, Ground, Steel, Water.
Resists x4: N/A
Resists x2: Dark, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Normal, Poison.
Immune: Psychic.

Tier: OU [people who say it's uber should be ignored with a fiery passion]

Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 68 HP / 228 Atk / 212 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit / Ice Punch / Avalanche

Doesn't really need much introduction, surely: Standard Choice Band monster.
Very very straightforward. Proven so by hundreds of people day in and day out. In anyones hands, this thing is a monster - it doesn't really take much skill to pick a move apon entering the battlefield (especially as many lead with it), and killing something.
Crunch this gen has been switched over to Physical by the new Mechanics, and it is safe to say, Tyranitar is one of the Pokémon who enjoyed this the switch over the most. As well as now making a few of it's old counters lives ever so slightly harder simply swapping into it, it benefits now from having a possibility of lowering their Defence!
Earthquake works well, as it hits a lot of things that Crunch and Stone Edge get a NVE hit on; Steel mainly though. Pretty simple, same old.
Stone Edge is another new addition to 4th Gen Tyranitar's movepool, and again, it cannot complain. A Base 100 STAB attack was something it was lacking in the previous generation, but not anymore. Stone Edge deals crazy damage to everything, resistances or not! Skarmory is 2HKO'd by it, and things without a huge defence stat, and a resistance should ever think of swapping into this for a second. High Critical Hit Ratio makes it more difficult for those who even have a large Base Def/HP to come in on it.
Last Slot again benefits from another new addition due to the Special/Physical change in the form of Pursuit. Pursuit has the ability to cripple leads that will swap out that you'll face from the word go. Gengar may feel that staying in on you is too risky, and swap out and then eat a STAB Pursuit on it's way out, and die. Cresselia, one of the main Pokémon Tyranitar preys on. It is not going to like risking swapping out, and facing a base 120 Power Crunch off of 594 attack, and it is certainly not going to enjoy taking a base 120 power Crunch if it thinks it can dodge the Pursuit.
Avalanche and Ice Punch are there mainly for a few of it's biggest counters; Gliscor, Donphan and Hippowdon. They will all Earthquake it into oblivion, Hippowdon being a popular lead, and Gliscor doing it occasionally, so they will not like the powered up Super Effective Avalanche (which OHKO's Gliscor, does 69.71% - 81.97% to Hippowdon, and 75.13% - 88.50% to Donphan).
Ice Punch will catch Donphan for a possible 2HKO doing 46.79% - 55.08%, Hippowdon will take 43.51% - 50.96%, and Gliscor is OHKO'd.

252 Atk is pointless, and it still hits 594 Atk, which is far more than enough.
Enough Speed to outrun Adamant Max Spd Machamp, as well as what the ones everyone else uses (outrunning Suicune).
Rest in HP is obv.

1.5 times boost Tyranitar gets from the Sandstorm boosts it's already above average Base 100 SDef way up, pair that with it's Base 110 Def, and 100 HP, you've got one fucking easy Pokémon to switch in - this is part of why it is so scary, imo.

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers / Life Orb
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 136 HP / 188 Atk / 184 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Crunch
- Stone Edge / Rock Slide
- Earthquake / Taunt / Ice Punch / Ice Beam

Or you can use Dragon Dance / Crunch / Earthquake / [Taunt/Ice Punch/Stone Edge/Rock Slide], but I prefer the dual STAB.
Pretty simple, and basically the same as the one above, but has less immediate force, and has to set up for a sweep. This generation though, this set has suffered a little. This is because absolutely everything hits so sodding hard, meaning setting anything up is a little harder, especially if you're a fat shit like Tyranitar is - with it's base 61 Spd. Still, this shouldn't deter you from using this, as it is still pretty awesomely scary, and can seriously sweep when it's set up 2 Dragon Dances.
Taunt is cool here, as you can stop Blissey Thunder Waving you, Gengar's Hypnosis/Will-o-Wisp/Other Dragon Dances dancing alongside you/rendering Breloom useless (unless it is packing Mach Punch or Sky Uppercut)/etc, you get the idea.
It is also a little bulkier than the above Choice Band set, and as a result of this, can last quite a while if you need it to. This also makes swapping it in easier again.
Life Orb as an option over Leftovers for more of a punch, but I generally prefer the benefit of the Leftovers recovery.

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 68 Spd / 188 SAtk
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Focus Punch
- Substitute
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam / Thunderbolt

We all know this set - well, should. Though those who are unaware of it, will be caught out by the moves in it's arsenal. Built around anti-stall, and adapted to D/P.
101 Substitutes to whore Blissey in the face after blocking it's Toxic or Thunder Wave as well. Being behind a Substitute, this thing is such a monster. Having the offences that it does is fair enough, but then packing them behind a strong Substitute that will not be broken by a fair few things, is terrifying.
Ice Beam is of course preferred this gen, as Gliscor/Hippowdon/Donphan all take more from it, and are big counters to the Rock dinosaur. They are all 2HKO'd (at least) by the Ice Beam, and when behind a Substitute, it makes it that much harder for them to counter you at all.
Thunderbolt is of course still an option, as the ever present Skarmory will stop this set in it's tracks, and Whirlwind you away after taking a lot less damage from Ice Beam. Thunderbolt also deters Suicune a little more if it decides to come in on you - especially Calm Mind-less ones.
Focus Punch is obviously there to use in conjunction with your Substitute, and to deal large amounts of damage to those resisting your special based attacks. No matter how you look at it, this set has incredible coverage.
This set really is scary to any team when behind a substitute.

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 148 Atk / 20 Def / 88 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Rock Slide / Stone Edge
- Crunch

This was named "Viltar" back in Adv, and now I feel it is as good as ever. Rather than before having to use Hidden Power [Bug], it has the use of a newly Physical Crunch.
Basically works in the same way as Tyraniboah.
Behind a Substitute, it is again, rather scary, possibly as scary or scarier than Boah is, especially as this one has a much more powered up Focus Punch to utilize from behind the Substitute and it is far less known, and unexpected.
Stab moves work from behind the protection of a Substitute effectively too.
Enough speed to outrun any Skarmory, just if you want to use Rock Slide and abuse the "Flinch Hax" a couple of times, and/or if it is within KO range or trying to Roost, you'll go before it before it Roosts, and hit it for normal damage and annoy it some more/kill it.

Tyranitar (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 148 Atk / 212 Spd / 148 SAtk
Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Focus Blast
- Ice Beam

This is scary as you like. Has insane coverage, and is an amazing sweeper of teams that are slow/have been slowed down by Para support/when an Agility has been passed to it, and have taken a few hits and are weakened a little.
Crunch and Stone Edge for your Physical STAB, causing major damage on the standard stuff - much the same as the Choice Band version.
Fire Blast is a guaranteed OHKO on Skarmory with these EVs, and Metagross takes 75.82% - 89.01% if it has 252 HP (Bulkier Choice Band versions you can outrun), and ones with no HP take 91.69% - 107.64%.
Fire Blast is a guaranteed 2HKO on 252 HP / 176 SDef Sassy Bronzomg as well - doing 51.78% - 60.95%.
Ice Beam is for his more common counters, and almost lands a OHKO on Donphan, and gets a Guaranteed 2HKO on Hippowdon.
Expert Belt is also an option for the held item if you're not all that fond of the 10% HP loss of Life Orb.
This set could also be used with a Choice Scarf as the held item - though obviously not as useful or as scary.

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 236 HP / 176 Def / 88 Spd / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Counter
- Rock Slide
- Crunch

This is a personal favourite of mine, and is something I used years ago, but works a lot better now.
I made my first D/P team around it a few months ago, and it is by far the most successful I've made in D/P OU.
With the EVs it has, it reaches 400 HP and 270 Defence. This means that you can actually counter some weaker, or semi-weaker, Fighting attacks, and most Ground attacks will not OHKO. The only ones that will OHKO you are Choice Band STAB ones off more than about 120 Atk. Anything less will be countered, HARD. For example; Scarf Chomp only does 71.50% - 84.25%!
This additional defence + Counter is also particularly useful for disposing of Swamperts, Donphans, Hippodons and Gliscors, who are, some of Tyranitar's biggest counters. With them out of the way, it makes it a hell of a lot easier to sweep.
Rock Slide is on this to abuse the flinch rate & the speed rising bonus of Dragon Dance.
Otherwise, very straightforward on paper, but can be a menace and a half in battle.

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 236 HP / 136 Def / 136 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Pursuit / Crunch
- Roar / Screech
- Stealth Rock / Toxic / Taunt / Counter / Rest
- Stealth Rock / Toxic / Taunt / Counter / Rest

In addition to the above sweeping counter version, this is a more support based Tyranitar. It makes yet more use of it's huge 110 Def, and the boost Sandstorm gives it's already above average Base 100 SDef.
Pursuit or Crunch depending on what you prefer, and what other moves may be picked for the other slots - I personally preferred Pursuit.
Roar or Screech basically do the same job, but Roar forcefully pushes the Pokémon out of play, while Screech, coming from Tyranitar especially, will make the opponent think twice before staying in to see if you are running a scary arsenal of physical attacks to run off the -2 Def they receive... Very dangerous paired with Pursuit.
Stealth Rock and Toxic can support your team, and Taunt can catch some Skarmory out, Bronzomg who may try to sleep you, Breloom coming in on you, stops Hippowdon using Slack Off and or Stealth Rock itself and forces it to attack you, bringing us nicely onto to; Counter. Again an option here as with even more Defence, it does stand a chance of surviving a Choice Band Jolly Garchomp's Earthquake (91.75% - 107.75%)! It also will survive a Brick Break from a Choice Band Jolly Weavile most of the time - 87.00% - 102.50%.
Investing in a little more defence here will make sure that neither KO you, but then you'll be losing a little bit of SDef. Another option nonetheless.
Rest as an option on the end as it could be of use.
Sleep Talk could be useful on this set as well, but I don't know where you'd fit it - maybe Crunch/Roar/Rest/Talk. Though there are other Pokémon that Sleep Talk a lot better than Tyranitar (especially as it has that horrible 4x weakness to Fighting, and doesn't resist a particularly substantial range of types).

Other Options
I think I mentioned pretty much everything that was worth mentioning, as there are a lot of sets there. About the only thing I've not mentioned is the possibility of a Choice Specs set. This is an option that is usable, but I felt it was too gimmicky to mention in the main analysis. It has the movepool to do it, but it also has the movepool to do so much more.
If one were to be added, it would have the same EVs as the Choice Band set, but reversed, with Dark Pulse/Ice Beam or Hidden Power [Grass]/Fire Blast/Focus Punch.
Another option that is a viable one that it seems I might have missed is Rock Polish. Though I felt this isn't really good enough to be mentioned in the main analysis. Rock Polish could go on the second listed set (the Dragon Dance one) over Dragon Dance, and if you fine tune the EVs a little so it outruns Scarf Heracross after the +2 Spd, and possibly max it's attack instead, and attach a Life Orb.
Curse is another option on it, to recreate G/S/C Tyranitar in D/P. The likes of Regirock do this a little better though, and Tyranitar is best sticking to dancing like a Dragon.
Hidden Power [Grass] can be used over any Ice Beam as well, though it isn't advised as much due to not being able to land as much of a hit on Ground Types (other than Rhyperior).
Scary Face could be used, though I doubt much success would come from it.
Like I briefly mentioned in the last set, a Sleep Talk set is usable, but outclassed by others with a better defencive typing.
Surf could also be used over Ice Beam, which could be funny, as you would be learning Tyranitar the Surf! It has the same Power as Ice Beam, but hits Rocks as well as Ground Types! Not worthy of anything other than lols.

Opinion
One of the scariest Pokémon of the 3rd gen remains that way in the 4th gen - though this is the opinion of none! It's absolutely astronomical movepool allows it to counter even the things that are classified as counters, though this is at the expense of power somewhere or a slot changed around which may hinder you somewhere in certain sets.
I really am fond of the physical Substitute set, and the Counter Dragon Dancing ones, as they are both offencive as you need them to be, as well as being defencive to a level that I find acceptable.
The Sandstorm boosting Rock Types' SDef by 1.5 really helped Tyranitar all over the shop. At times it seems a little ridiculous, as it comes in so easily on some of the hardest hitters in the whole game - Heatran being a great example. Earth Power isn't even a 2HKO on most of the Tyranitar listed, and that is from a Modest Specs version!
Unpredictability is certainly on Tyranitar's side, and goes very well with it's huge arsenal.
Definitely one of the most influential Pokémon of the generation, but most certainly not to an Uber status, as unfortunately, there are a few Pokémon who counter the main sets (aka, the only ones you'll probably see) really rather well:

Counters
Hippowdon is the best at this job by a LONG SHOT. Having a great Base HP and Def and the move Slack Off to heal anything Tyranitar can throw at it (minus stronger Ice Beams), and being able to land a STAB Super Effective attack on it, 2HKOing it (most sets), and forcing it out almost every time - or roaring it away.
Machamp, Breloom, Swampert, Donphan, and Bronzong all do a reasonable job of countering most sets as well, who all are able to land a SE hit on it.
Defencive STalk Machamp has to be the next best counter behind Hippowdon, though it is slightly outside it's element.
Hariyama can also counter almost every version of Tyranitar in the same way Machamp does.
For Tyraniboah, I listed a couple of counters underneath the moveset itself, and they are situational as to what you pick for your attacks, though your opponent has to work out what these attacks are initially before they plan their counter, as if they get it wrong, they could go down one Pokémon very quickly. Skarmory/Suicune/Vaporeon will all beat it if it doesn't have Thunderbolt, and Hippowdon/Donphan/Gliscor will beat it if it doesn't have Ice Beam.

resttalk should be mentioned as it can take plenty special threats with 252 hp / 252 sdef / 4atk w/ careful and hit back hard with only 305 atk.

I've been meaning to finish my Tar analysis, but I've been procrastinating since about September.

Looks like you did a better job than me. Add this though:

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 236 HP/20 Def/252 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Curse
- Crunch

Add Hariyama as a counter to almost all the sets. 1hko's, takes nothing from almost all of its attacks, great counter to Boah, ecpecially if it runs ice beam>thunderbolt.

I think you meant FIRE Blast on LO Tar.
Just making sure.

EDIT: On Boah, why do you have a -Speed nature with Speed EVs?

This is, of course, assuming that Spd means speed. I'm just used to seeing Speed as "Spe"

Dark Pulse does 31.4-37.1% to Pert so with a Sub up outspeeding Pert is pretty good if it's taken a bit of damage.
