Hey Forum Members, I tried to register as a member of the forums, but I was given a message that the forum is not taking any new members. Any way, I wanted to get some information from guys that "Know". So I thought I would post here. Any info is greatly appreciated. Im a bass fisherman and just came up to the Bay Area from San Diego. My home lake down south was Santee lakes and I tell ya, after 15 years of fishing those lake on a daily basis, there wasn't a day during the season that I could not pull fish out of them, I knew the lake that well. I have not fished in about two seasons, got married, settled down and now Im just dying to get my line wet. I wanted to see what might be a good place for fishing Large mouth this season. When I moved up to the bay area, I did fish at Calero a few times and pulled some decent size bass out of there. But, I now live in Milpitas. Do any of you guys know a good lake in the surrounding area that has a decent population of Bass? I do not have a boat, so some shade and some shoreline holes or obstructions would be nice as I will be walking the shoreline throughout the day. Any advice on rigs other than Texas Style? I am just trying to get out, clear the head, do some fishing. Any help or info you guys can provide, is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance for any advice. -Jmangia |

Jmangia I have not banked fish in a very long time, but I have a fishing partner that does it all the time and Crappie was his gig until the mean bass got into his life. PM me your email and I will pass it on to Walter. He shakes if he does not fish three times a week. He knows tons of ponds in this area and fishes Coyote and Anderson from shore. |

RParis, Thanks for your response, I really appreciate it. Ya know, I just love bank fishing. It does something for the brain I tell ya. I don't have a bass boat and I just sold my Ski boat... with no intentions on buying a boat until me and my wife have a little one come of fishing age. Until then it's on the shoreline for me. I have fished Coyote about two years ago. Some good spots out there. They have a over flow type hole that is just down the hill from the main lake. I had some pretty decent hits that whole day but was only able to pull one out of the water. I have never fished Anderson though. I was able to go on a nice trip to Don Pedro last year and it was the only time I actually put my line in the water in 2008. I attached a pic of a decent catch I had one early morning last year as the sun was coming up. This was out of a buddy's hooptie boat. Good times none-the less. I was just happy to be out there. ![]() I will pm you my email. Hopefully we can find something up near San Jose and Milpitas area. Thanks again for your reply! It's so nice to talk fishing again! Got the email address so you may want to edit your message and take the email address down. I will pass to Walter and you may think about visiting us at our next meeting on Thursday and may find someone with the same interest to fish with. Shore fishing is fun, but most seem to enjoy the hunt of tournament fishing. Take care, Robert |

Thanks RParis for your help! I have never fished a tournament. Since I grew up only 50 yards off of Santee lakes in San Diego, It was just something I did after school as a kid, through High School, into college until I moved out of my parents house. From that point on, I was only able to hit up the lake as time allowed. Not that I am older, established and married, I now have a ton of time on my hands. Tournament fishing seems pretty fun, but it also seems like it would be costly. I could be wrong though, as I have never fished in a tournament. I was just looking for a way to release the thoughts, get back into what I love most and cost effectively enjoy myself. |

I would be very interested. I have read all of BassBusters documentation and membership information. I have also discussed it with my wife and it sounds like something that would allow me to get heavily into the sport (exactly what I want to do again) as well as meet some good guys with the same interest. Unfortunately, I have family coming in town this Thursday, So I guess I will have to wait until next month to attend the meeting and learn more about Bassbusters. Unless there is an unscheduled meeting before then. Thanks for the information and thanks for the meeting invitation. John |

No issue other then trying to chase down the point leaders. Points are hard to make up here., but if you just want to fish and catch fish it is all good here. |

I actually talked it over with my wife, letting her know that I was very interested in meeting up with you guys. She thinks its a great idea and feels that its a productive way to really enjoy my hobby. I also think it may be a great way to meet some good friends. I must also say I like the vibe and closeness of the club. You all seem like a great bunch of guys that like to have a good time. Not to mention I could learn a ton of things from all of you that could better my fishing game. So in all honesty, my only fear in fishing with you guys is my level of fishing. You could call it intimidation. I guess, my only concern is that my level of fishing is not up to par with all of you guys. I mean, lets face it. You guys fish in tournaments. Where as I grew up fishing bass from the bank for many years. Just me, my dog and my backpack filled with only the essential gear moving from spot to spot every 15 min. I am confident that I can pull fish out of any lake on any day. My experiences in the bay area lakes has proven that. But, I have not pulled a big 10+ pounder out of the water before (though I have hooked up to a few in my fishing life time). Nor have I ever fished competitively and as many of you know fishermen look at competition fisherman as Gods (dont let it get to your head :P) Any how, just a few thoughts that crossed my mind over the past couple days. -John |

Hey John, many of us started off like you, including myself. Before I joined I used to walk the banks, trying to catch bass. One day I said to myself, let's try a club. I was intimidated, but, I knew if I wanted to get with a bunch of other fishermen who shared my passion, this was the place. So, I fished my first tournament, had a friggin blast, and the rest is history. Speaking only for myself, I learned waaaayyy more stuff in this club than I could have on my own. I felt I could fish anywhere and catch fish, but, honestly, I can say I doubled, maybe tripled my knowledge since joining 4 years ago. Everyone's story is probably different, but, I'm certainly glad I'm part of the BassBusters. "BB for life" Just come to a meeting, fish a tournament and if you like it, come to another meeting to get voted in (depending on how we like you, as well). You might be intimidated at first, but, we all put our pants on one leg at a time. We're no different from you.
Oh and not all fishermen look up to us tournament fishermen. In fact, because we are more easily identified on the water, our impression may be really good or really bad depending on what they see. anyhow... |

You got to love the Purple spanking machine! John, I am working on a few things and will send an email tomorrow to you. All anglers are gamblers. We gamble our time and energy chasing fish. When I used to fish Crappie and Bluegil or even Salmon back home in Seattle anyone fishing with me would put up a dollar for first fish, largest fish and most fish. The bet does not have to be paid, but we made it and honored it. I am sure everytime you take your rod out it is on, you and the Bass. Local club, Pro or pleasure fishing we all fish for the same thing and it is all good. But, the first time you get into a tournament you get really live and the blast off just blows you away. Your boat number is called and you roll out slow and then you are going 70+MPH (if the weather is nice) trying to get to an area you like to fish. I have no issues passing boats to get there first. Paris luck is I am the last boat first day and second day I am first and this this is real Paris Luck. I am a noobie here, do not trip about never fishing tournaments - just fish and it is all good. Peace, Robert Edited by RParis, Apr 3 2009, 06:33 AM.

MChen, That is very comforting, thanks for replying. It definitely puts me at ease. Learning and making myself into a better fisherman is one of the things I look forward to most. I will definitely be at your next meeting to introduce myself and meet you guys. You all seem like a good bunch of guys and I look forward to meeting all of you. |
