While prefishing Friday night with Marshal we had an experience I thought I'd relate to you all which I hope will make you all better anglers. About midnight we were throwing our lures up against the bank on Henderson Point. Marshal tells me he hung up so I manage to ease the boat up to the bank where Marshal is hung up to allow him to try and get his lure back. The next thing I hear is Marshal yelling "oh no" and seeing a rod disappear over the side of the boat. Marshal is a good stick but really isn't that nimble for a big guy and his lunge after the rod wasn't successful. Didn't think too much of it at the time till he told me it was my rod and reel that went over board. Marking the spot that it went over I had Marshal hold the boat against the bank as I stripped to my skibbies don my headlamp and went for a midnight swim. Water temp was about 81 so it was very comfortable. Now holding on to a large boulder I began feeling the bottom with my feet. The water at Henderson Pt. just DROPS OFF right at the bank and the water came up to my neck. Being a small guy I couldn't feel the bottom with my feet if I let go of that rock. A man got to do what he's got to do. I took the headlamp off, placed it on the rock, took a deep breath and dove feeling the bottom of the lake with my hands as I moved out into deeper water. I found the rod in about 8 feet of water on my first dive. I came up with rod in hand, grabbed my headlamp with the other and swam back to the boat where Marshal pulled me in. Got my rod back plus I only had to wear wet underwear for an hour longer before we had to head back in! After that whenever we stopped at a new location we'd strap the rods to the deck after taking the one to be used out. I think I'll get into the habit of doing this during day time fishing trips too. It only takes a second to strap the rods back down after removing the one that will be used for fishing. |

Marshal I have two questions for you. 1. Why didn't you go swimming for the rod? 2. Boxers, briefs or leopard print?
