That event is a class act. Cooch, Vince and the Russo's staff were amazing. The best part was the kids. Seeing them and remembering the excitement of fishing as a kid brought back to why I started fishing, fun. I got a great kid, 16 year old local boy who has been bass fishing for about 2 years, float tubes mostly. They valet park you, what a luxury, and put on the whole tournament experience. Unfortunately I new we were in for a tough day. Wind for the last day and a half, 20 degree temp drop and a tide that would have kept me off the delta that day anyway. Being a half day and worried about blasting all over the delta with a kid I decided to hang around Franks and work the tules even though the tide was against me. Working beavers, spinner baits and frog while I had the kid work a senko behind me. Had my bites but missed most, probably due to the wind and wake but caught a few. I'm working around a tule point and I here the kid say I got one. I turn around see a good fish jump. I tell him to point his rod tip down and keep tension. He does a great job and I get to net his 5.25 lbr. Smile ear to ear! We get to weigh in and there is a camera guy on the dock. I tell the kid to show his fish for the camera, great picture that will make western bass for sure. We go weigh the fish and he's got big fish at the time but there were about 60 more boats left to weigh. Valet retrieve, I'm spoiled now, and the kids got the whole family there and we rush over to weigh in to check the big fish weight. We watch the last few boats weigh and his title held! We end up weighing 3 for 10lbs total. The kid wins a trophy and $150 worth of black dog swim baits and I got the proud papa feeling which is priceless. I will make this an annual event and sign my kids up for it when they hit the age minimum and would encourage everyone to do so.

Great to hear it was a great time, I had to call and cancell on thursday. My Truck died, the front wheels are ready to fall off. So as a boater I had to make the commitment to get a new toe-truck so I can get the boat to the lake, even though I really did not need another payment. By I was able to get the motor broke-in over the weekend so I will be able to make sure that my non-boater will get to fish this weekend. Love ya John F. ;)

I was really looking farward to doing this kids day terny. sorry i missed it.

Great Story,
I'm sorry I wasn't able to do it this year, but hope I will be back again next year.

Your right John,
There's nothing like watching the excitement of a young kid catching fish.
And for the one with you to get big fish of the day is awesome!!!!

Thanks,
Rene

Awesome, J! Passing on the fishing experience to our next generation is invaluable.
I WILL try my hardest to make the next one.

Great Job Jon!

I also remember starting to fish as a youngster. Many fond memories as I'm sure your partner now has too! He'll always remember that big one that didn't get away!

I forgot to mention all the good stuff in the raffle donated by Mel's, thanks Glen. All kinds of great, expensive stuff! Cooch gave you lots of praise and plugs on the store. Thanks again Mel's!
