Up in the city and into the tavern

The two, mostly thanks to Arthur, had found themselves in the city after about an hour of walking. Esria had been quiet through out the journey. But once the green haired boy saw the tavern he stopped walking. He prused out his bottom lip slightly trying to recall something. After a second he looked at Arthur's back.

"Uh mister?" He said "Maybe we should check here? I remeber Liz telling me once that bartenders in places like this always know whats what. . . Maybe we can figure things out there?"

"Of all the nonsensical---" Arthur began to mutter to himself at the boy's comment.

Bartenders were typically on a lower rung of academic society, serving up drinks didn't exactly take a lot of book smarts. How they could possibly be useful was momentarily beyond him, but then he shifted from the larger picture he had been fixated on, about the overlapping of at least two dimensions and the seemingly uncoordinated transportation through time and space of random individuals. The answers to complex magical and analytical questions weren't of top priority at the moment once he had time to redirect his focus and consider the moment. Bartenders would know the area, though not much better than any other individual who lived around these parts they also were listeners and conversationalists. Perhaps the two could get all of their simpler questions answered in one place and time.

Sucking up his initial retaliatory response to the advice of this boy’s friend that had already made half its way out of his mouth, Arthur’s head turned as his emerald eyes scanned over the tavern and he let out a reluctant sigh at having to admit there might be sense in those words he had for a moment denounced on a whim. It was as good a place as any to start, at least.

“Maybe your friend has a point,” the young mage finally said as he emerged from his pondering, “We do need some answers and sooner would be much more preferable to later. Very well, let‘s give it a go.” With that, he made his way towards the door, his associate sure to be following, it being his idea after all.

((Heh, I was applying D&D logic, where most bartenders are retired adventurers))

Esria followed him in and looked around. The place was moderatly lit and have a very "mideval" feel about it. There weren't very many people around.

One stood out more then the rest though, a girl with bright orange hair that was talking to the bar tender. The one behind the bar was a cruel looking man with long curly black hair and bright red eyes. He looked like he stepped right out of some Anime.

Though Esria wasn't shocked at things like that, it never bothered him and never will.

The girl said something and the bartender glared at her and then she laughed.

((Yeah, I figured that. I was just roleplaying how I thought Arthur would respond to "D&D logic" ^.^ Also, sorry for the long write, I haven‘t been rping much at another board I usually go to and need to vent some creative energy ^.^.))

Arthur's piercing sights scanned the tavern immediately after his initial step through the doors and his first chance to grab a gazeful of the place. He wrinkled his nose almost immediately, involuntarily. The place had a definite old world tavern feel to it, which shouldn’t have bothered the young mage all too much, considering that his world was of a respectively similar timeline --- he had been a little surprised and very much curious about the cityscape’s architecture on the way there. No, it was more the lower-class appearance to the place. For a mage, a position of great prestige in the lands of Alderia, he was used to relatively finer things in his life. This was definitely no Sundar Academy dinning hall, for sure.

However, he prided himself on being tolerant and saw himself as anything but a snob. It had been an involuntary reaction, his distaste, and as he pulled himself together an instant later he was already becoming slightly more open-minded about the place. It was a good thing, too. The bartender had missed his initial reaction to the place, currently in a conversation, but he probably wouldn’t take too kindly to any negativity directed at the establishment to which he worked.

Speaking of the bartender, now there was an interesting sight. Young Waltz was slightly taken aback, perhaps, but only inwardly and nothing upon his outward features displayed anything other than a calm and collected individual. When one lived in a realm of magic, let alone were so closely tied to that mystical side of life as Arthur was, they experienced things far stranger and more bizarre than a harsh-looking character with strange eye pigmentation.

What brought more attention to his gaze than the bartender was the man’s orange-haired company. Not because of any particular strangeness of appearance or abnormal behavior, but primarily due to gender. One was never in such a pressing predicament that they couldn’t notice the attractiveness of a lady, unless class projects were coming to a deadline --- which a few actually were back home, but amazingly enough the dimensional gap between him and his world was actually enough to slightly deter Arthur’s obsessive need to get back to work on them, for a time at least.

“There’s always time for meeting new people,” Arthur proclaimed to no one in particular, before thinking to glance over his shoulder at his nearly forgotten and yet-unnamed companion --- to which he still hadn’t reached the proper state of mind to think of asking for such --- and say, “Well, kid. There’s your bartender, I suppose we should give him a try, huh?”

Without waiting for an answer, the young mage crossed the tavern with a long, stylish stride --- seemingly casual, yet with purpose if such two things could be properly infused --- looking rather elegant in his tastefully cut wizard’s robes. Reaching the pair at the bar, two of very few that occupied the place at that time, he waited for a moment until he sensed a lull in the conversation and there attempted to call their attention to him and his companion with a flair of the hand, a casual wave of greeting.

“Hello there,” Arthur declared with a charismatic appeal in his voice and manner, “I was wondering if you could help us. You see, my friend and I are a tad lost --- ” emphasizing the point with a pinching of his fingers, “ --- and we could really use some assistance.”

He was asking both of them, but most of his attention, along with a charming smile, was carefully fixated upon the orange-haired stranger. Knowing the occasional accusations about him being a flirt back at Sundar Academy, Arthur saw it all as good fun and even in his present circumstance he could still muster the mentality to play the game. He had even subtly cast an enchantment during his short walk from the entrance to the counter to better equip himself. Not on the woman, of course, that would be cheating and dreadfully underhanded, not to mention highly illegal where he came from. No, the enchantment had been placed upon himself, his eyes more specifically.

They had a mystical glitter to them now, a mysterious sparkle that could draw in those who looked into their depths. Novices used the spell often, and often with poor results. The fact was that most poured it on too strong: they made their stares look outlandish and ridiculous, sometimes even comical; others poured on just enough over the delicate limit that they got caught for casting magic. Arthur was far too skilled a mage to make such amateurish mistakes with a freshman-grade spell like this one. Turned down just enough to be subtly undetectable but on the other hand heightened enough to provide the proper magical allure.

The orange haired girl looked at him with a raised eyebrow and a slight smirk on her face. She looked from Arthur to the green haired boy that had come in with him. Then she fixed her grey gaze on the man that spoke in her direction.

While his magic was impressive and subtle the effects went over her like it was nothing. She just kept that same sly smile on her face. A hint of curiosity in her grey eyes. If Arthur where to take a decent look at hers he would be able to tell that she had no visible puples to them. Just a slighly darker tone of grey where the puple should have been.

She brushed a few strands of her long orange hair away from her face and over her shoulder. Her jade and red chinese style clothes coming into true view now that she turned around to face him completly.

Meanwhile Esria had concidered going up to talk to the bartender on his own. But then remembered that Elizabeth told him whatever he did, avoid talking to people that you want information from and let someone that you where with do the talking. He didn't quite understand why she didn't want him to say anything though

Arthur was moderately pleased with how things had begun. He had the attention of the bartender and, more importantly in his view at the moment, the orange-haired girl. Mildly disappointed to find no signs that his minor magical enchantment had worked its spell upon her when he stared into her unusual and intriguing pupiless gray eyes, he quickly came to the conclusion that it was better this way. Otherwise it might just have been too easy for him. He also couldn’t get too distracted and let slip from mind the reason why he and his still-unnamed acquaintance had entered this ‘charming’ establishment in the first place. Regardless, he maintained the enchantment. It wasn’t a bother at all and, despite it’s lack of effect, the young mage had come to assume in his endless use of the spell that it made him appear quite striking.

Pleased even further when the pleasant stranger turned his way and he had a better look at her, Arthur took a neighboring seat at the bar, positioning himself at enough of an angle that it seemed he could readily change conversation between either her or the bartender behind the counter. It was a shady way of hiding any strong intent, appearing as if he actually had any interest in conversing with the man behind the bar as well. Though he had little attention to spare from the orange-haired girl, almost automatically he glanced over his shoulder at his companion. The boy was a bit strange, it was his idea to come in here for information and he had yet to say a single word, let alone ask any questions. It seemed that it would be up to him to get the ball rolling, which he didn’t mind at all if it meant conversation with the stranger next to him.

“Let’s start with formalities. My name is Arthur Waltz and my companion’s is ---” the young mage began to say, cutting off when realization finally came to light.

He didn’t know the boy’s name, never asked for it, never considered asking for it, never considered that the boy even had a name. He had been much too distracted with present circumstances to have a clear mind for trivial details. Being drawn out of one’s dormitory and then being set down in a new dimension tended to do that to a person, or so he assumed. Not wanting what was bound to be a momentary and possibly embarrassing loll in the conversation, he acted quickly. Raising his hand and gesturing it in a rolling wave fashion as if trying to draw out thought, he actually performed a quick spell on his companion. A little more complicated than the eye glitter enchantment, this one drew out tidbits of information from a person. Nothing major or closely guarded, it could only target the most basic and unguarded of thoughts, like the person’s name. When taking effect, the one under the spell would feel as if the words were plucked off of his lips.

((For now I am just going to use the bartender then Jen gave the bar, Naraku. Mostly because I haven't created a new bartender yet lol))

"Oh, I'm Esira Tashiro" He said with a small smile. Esria spoke as he had started to take a seat one over from Arthur.

The orange haired girl nodded "Nice to meet the two of you, I'm Tiger Minamotou. . . And don't mind the grump. . ." She said as she jerked her thumb at the bartender "Naraku doesn't like the fact that he got stuck with this job. . . long story though. . ." She chuckled slightly and shot a sly grin at Naraku.

"One of these days expect to find poison in your drink" He growled at her.

Tiger simply waved her hand as it his threat was nothing "Like I said don't mind him. . . So I take it your new?"

Oh yes, we’re new. I just arrived from a dormitory in my own dimension, was plucked up, and dropped off high above a lake. We were wondering if you could help us deduce inter-dimensional magical theory and produce an artificial time-space rift that could get us back to our own lives. By the way, how‘s the wine in this place?

This conversation seemed perfectly acceptable to Arthur as he considered putting it into words, at least until he slipped off of his academic high horse and realized how much of a blasted fool it would make him look. He had no way of knowing if either the lovely Tiger or the grouchy Naraku had ever heard of such a thing before. To them, this place might be the only dimension they knew of in existence, quite similar to him but only a few hours ago. On top of the personal want to not appear crazy to an attractive woman he still hoped to learn more about, he needed these people for information. If they considered him deranged or psychotic, he might be thrown out on the establishment’s welcome mat with his behind closely in tow.

No, in the current situation that he faced, that wasn’t a good outcome no matter how many ways you sliced it. He decided it would be better to coax into matters slowly, if only for the moment. If these two somehow knew something, information might come much quicker and all the better, but what were the chances really that this was a natural occurrence?

“New? As in to the area?” Arthur asked in pleasant and unsuspecting tones, his attention primarily as always on Tiger, “Well, yes, we’re just passing through and we simply do not know our way around. By the way,” glancing over at Naraku for a moment, “how’s the wine in this place?” So he did manage to scavenge something at least from his previously concocted conversation starter.

Ookami awoke without a start, knowing full well he had no clue where he was.

"Nothing new there" He thought, a smirk playing across his face. His humor was quickly replaced with an earth-shattering headache as he sat up. Hangovers, never quite get used to those, though.

Ookami scanned the room for enemies. Lesson in the second, after taking inventory of your body parts, make sure you weren't being held captive... Again.

Memories of a several gambling debts he'd "forgotten" to pay flashed through his head, along with a quick list of the people who wanted him dead. Well, as quick as he could make it.

Fishing his smokes out of his vest, he fired one up, and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.

"Where the bloody Hell am I now?"

After spending what felt like days composing himself, and thinning the supply of whiskey behind the bar, Ookami made up his mind to do a bit of exploring. Snatching a last bottle of Jack Daniels from the shelf, he made his way to the door.

"Bugger this place, no one interesting. Like these people are here, but not here..."

He took a swig from a near empty bottle in his right hand, still holding the new one in the left, and smashed the empty into a wall. Alcohol makes things seem like a better idea than when sober. A small blaze erupted from his Zippo, and was quickly applied to a cigarette hanging from his lips. Demonic blood kicked the shit out of carcinogens. Take that, cancer.

"...'Sides, this new place could prove to be fairly... well, fun." And with that Ookami was gone, leaving only empty and broken bottles as evidence that he'd been there.
