Has anyone else tried this? It has a pretty steep learning curve but once you get the hang of the mechanics it's a very fun game! I think it would be much better with friends but still fun by myself right now.

Essentially it's a space explorer/combat sim with a very large number of systems to explore and a great deal of immersion. For instance manually docking your ship, you actually feel like you accomplish something by doing it, things like that. I don't think this game will come close to No Man's Sky which I am just absolutely fan boying over but it's very fun nonetheless.

Have a look!

Also if you haven't heard of No Man's Sky. I'm personally losing my mind over this one and can't wait to play it. However, I'm very pleased with this Elite: Dangerous game as well. It's a little steep right now at $69.99 on Steam. But you never know it just might go on sale during the Steam Summer Sale!

Also it is online but no pay to play. Only thing you can pay money for is aesthetics like decals and paint jobs. In other words, no paying to win!

Can't say I have heard of either of them. Will do some proper research when I get back from this holiday (if I get back as the boats back home are knackered)

Well i have returned (19 hours to cover 205 miles....) and am doing some research on Elite: Dangerous and i can't work something out, is this actually an MMO?? It refers to playing solo but also to meeting other players, or are these two different modes??

I will admit it sounds like a very impressive game, and have added it to the wishlist in the hope of a Steam Sale!!

You can play solo mode but I don't know why anyone would. You're in a Milky Way with 400 billion systems even in open play you're only going to run into people a handful of times aside from when you're a space stations. I have two guys I've been running with in a Wing (party) for the past week and we're doing really well. It's kind of like an MMO but it's not in the sense that there's people everywhere because there isn't. But you do come across people in high traffic areas like resource extraction sites and space stations and the like

I'll be honest, I haven't heard of this before, what's it about? Is it like a RPG, FPS, Strategy. I have no idea with all the computer games around

It's an open world sandbox MMO Space Flight Simulator with full working economy, unexplored areas, things to do. It's still a work in progress, but I think it's worth the money. And when I mean unexplored areas, I mean a lot. The entire galaxy is available to explore and move around.

Yet, I am still exponentially more interested in No Man's Sky. But they are different games, No Man's Sky will have a lot more to explore, but I'm sure the combat and trading is more in depth in Elite: Dangerous. At least I couldn't imagine it being any less in depth from what I've played (39 hours).
