Ever since I got a new computer, I found that it had no Realtek on it, instead it had Sound Max on it. The problem with this is that I very much enjoyed playing with the Realtek Audio Manager to give songs and other things different sound effects. However, the Sound Max Audio Manager lacks the many features which I so much enjoyed with Realtek Audio. I did a lot of research into this and found absolutely nothing useful. So I am wanting to ask around now, to see if any of you guys may know a way in which I can get Realtek Audio Manager back. Would I have to buy a soundcard with a Realtek chip in it, or is there some way I can get the Audio Manager without having to spend any money on new hardware? |

Get teamviewer 4 (www.teamviewer.com) and tell me a time you're available this evening and I'll get it set up for you. |

Pretty much... realtek sound manager isn't going to work with a non-Realtek chipset. Although I haven't seen very many boards without the Realtek AC '97 chipset o.o best bet is a 3rd party program. I feel your pain. Windows 7 won't install my realtek driver (since its unsigned... ) so I had to get a different sound card. I miss that program U_U |

Do NOT download Team Viewer 4... It's used to let people control your computer over the internet. I use customized version of Ultra VNC at work (which does the same thing). At the risk of starting a flame war . Spoiler: click to toggle And like I said, it's not going to do any good. The Realtek audio manager is designed to program your Realtek audio controller; it WILL NOT WORK with anything else. |

I see, so would I have to get a soundcard with a realtek chip on it? If so, I was also wondering if only specific cards are compatible with specific motherboards. |

Soundcards are mostly compatible as long as they're from around the same date... like.. a 12 year old sound card might not work with a new computer, but a 2 year old one almost definitely will. That MAIN issue is to make sure that you have the correct PCI-express slot for it. You can find pictures of each type so you can identify them online.. probably on Wikipedia somewhere. The other BIG issue is to make sure it will work with your Operating System (especially Vista or Win7). Windows XP will pretty much take any old thing that fits, but Vista and Win7 have to be pickier about their drivers. Most products will advertise "Vista Compatible" somewhere on the box. If you have a credit/debit card or access to one, try finding one online at Tiger Direct or NewEgg I found mine at Tiger for about.. $15 including shipping which is cheaper than you'll find at Best Buy |

very neat! That's a pretty nice deal! I'll definitely check out their offers and what they have. Thanks a bunch :D I'll also look into what kind of PCI slot my motherboard has. |

Some stranger... right. I use that program for all my assisting needs since I can actually take care of it from here as if I were sitting infront of it. If Elk wants help that's his decision and not anyone elses. He can sit there whole time and watch/control/converse while I found out what he has installed and find compatible software and installed it for him and showed him how to use it. And I get paid to do this when a job is available so technically that would tag me as a professional. |

Some would seem to be wrong. A professional can often troubleshoot an issue without having to remote into a system. I assumed codecs, I was wrong, Raikiri suggested the hardware and he was right. You suggested downloading a 3rd party program, and then the time wasted setting it up. That's not professional, that's hobbyist. You could use Remote Assistance - built into Windows. You could also make use of programs such as Dame Ware or LANDesk for network/workgroup machines. Good luck Elky! |

Teamviewer is easiest for both of us because it takes under a minute to download and install and it is a very user friendly interface. Professionally I do this face to face as people bring me their PC's or I go to them or collect them from a small office that sends me work when they have extra. I could have sat here on the forum making post after post asking him and telling him he would a realtek audio compatible sound card but the wonderful thing about Realtek is that their drivers offer the ability to control certain Soundmax cards so chances are he could still install the Realtek audio drivers and tweak them a bit to work with his current integrated chip depending on exactly which chip he has. Like I said, trying to make it easier on him so he just had to sit there instead of making sense of a bunch of technical nonsense of chasing down info in his computer and downloading this or that. Im getting sick of the belittling attitude from you two. |

Troubleshooting, not nonsense. Far more preferable than using back door programs that allow ftp. |

Not so easy when your clients are usually 50+ years old and can barely turn their computer on much less understand any tech babble you throw at them to try and help them troubleshoot. Gets you in the habit of finding it much easier to just do it and explain as you go so it doesnt matter if they understand or not. |

Doesn't sound very professional. Guessing at issues and resolutions. |
