Replacing my Nvidia 6800 GT OC 256MB AGP gfx card... I think it is slowly dying... time to replace it soon.

Suggestions? Other alternative AGP cards?

Depends how much money you're willing to give. If you don't want to pay $200 I would suggest maybe a GeForce 9500 GT. That's what I have even tho its a 9500 GS, not sure what's the difference. I went to staples and it was around 120$ Canadian money. so I guess in the U.S you can get it for $99. It's not the best card but It's still a good one. I have mine since last year and I can run 90% of the games at max. xcept some exceptions like crysis and GTA IV.

This that card AGP slot? Because if not, it's no use to me. My motherboard is AGP, and I don't have the funds to build a new rig at the moment.

Eh, ATI is always a pain about drivers. Like it says just use the ones on the disk and you'll be just fine. Just keep in mind ATI cards run a lot hotter than geforce, but they can take a lot more abuse over the years.

Would love to, but student loans, rent, fios, electricity, insurance, gas, and gasoline come first.

know what ya mean ID, i want to upgrade mine so it can take DDR2 RAM but cant afford to.

Anyways on the graphics card front then all i can say is always keep it NVidia. i persoanlly dont think you can beat them for general reliability. in fact i probably could not name another graphics card manufacturer.......

AGP is actually superior to PCI-e

Although pci-e 2.0 blows it out of the water...

But since ID's got a mobo thats a few years old AGP is just fine.

I'd look around last generation's ATI cards. The driver issue is way overblown if you take your time to find and install the right ones, you'll be fine.

AGP is only superior to PCI. It was destroyed with the birth of PCI-E, which is why you didn't see much AGP anymore. PCI-E 2 is only an updated PCI-E.

You're better off going with something with GDDR3 memory onboard. It's alot faster and newer games are designed for cards equipped with GDDR5
