Hey guys, So i'm currently writing this in safe mode because last night when I was playing JKA, the computer screen turned of shade of orange, and then went to that blue screen before it shut down and restarted. When it restarted itself the computer came back on with a line going across the middle of the screen. Then in the top section was a full view of my screen compacted into that half, and then on the bottom was the same thing. So in other words I am seeing double. I have tried to do a system restore, but that did not work. I have also tried to restart numerous times but the screen is still in half... Can anyone help me with this? At least try and get it so I can get into my computer normally. Because when I ever I try to start Windows Normally it doesnt work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :) Thanks, Uconn |

Just a note: I don't think this could be a virus, because I just reformatted my laptop about 2 weeks ago. And I just installed JKA on another slower laptop for now...but if you have any information that could help fix this one that would be great :) Thanks |

It's a video card issue. If you are using onboard video, then you can purchase an inexpensive graphics(video) card for your motherboard. The same applies if you are currently using a secondary video card. Nvidia or ATI are the companies that make these cards and whom you will have to choose between. Nvidia has larger sized cards but they are pretty good. ATI has smaller cards, but often have issues with their drivers. Lastly, if it is a secondary card you use now, try using the onboard video until you replace the card. *edit* Nevermind... you have a laptop. I hope you've got a warranty on it, you will need them to either replace the graphics card if it is not integrated. Or you will need a new mother board. Best of luck! =X |

sounds more like you hit a bad combination of keys. Try that first. try either Fn+F7 or Fn+F5 If you screen goes blank, don't worry, press the same thing again and it will come back. ID: his graphics chip isn't bad if it's still displaying, that usually indicates a user-setting got messed up or corrupted. |

Raikiri i tried the button combos and nothing doin :-\ Nothing happened when I tried to do that. Is it possible that there could be a problem with the motherboard overheating? I have noticed over the last couple weeks it has become rather hot...could that cause this kind of problem? |

An overheated laptop would cause the "blue screen of death", but if it would have to have seriously overheated to cause constant graphics issues. So when you load it normally you see the desktop twice in a sort of splitscreen view? I cant see it being a problem with the display buttons... are you running XP because i do know of a way to do that with applications, not too sure if it would do the same with the desktop though as im running vista and cant test it, but if it appears normally in safe mode then it must be a setting somewhere thats causing the problem. |

you see that's the thing, it doesn't run normally in safe mode, cause its split screen from the very beginning of turning on, at the Dell loading screen |

if its doing it from the loading screen before the OS kicks in then id say it has to be a hardware problem, dodgy cable or something on those lines, best take it to a repair store and unfortunatly be prepared to pay for the hours..... im no expert, but i know a fair bit about them (i do study them after all) but that would be my advice. |

/agree. I'd try calling tech support for your laptop brand (It's free to have them help you out over the phone) If it's still in warranty you can return it to fix, if not, find a decent repair shop. |
