Everything has to be reinstalled on this new hard drive. Starting with internet so I can get my drivers back. I just can't do it, I put in the dlink cd, installed the program, I click it, nothing happens. I am rather raged at the moment. I don't have internet on it, I don't have a video driver on it, I don't have a sound one either, so I can't even listen to music T.T Someone halp somehow. |

Take a chill pill, say good bye to your stuff on the new HDD and format it. Then install back new OS and other things you like. :3 |

the OS is already installed and the hard drive is formatted, although it limited itself to 137gb instead of the 360gb that it has >_> |

The disc is SP3 or you updated to SP3 once you installed XP from the disc? I've heard of this problem before, referring to the hard drive limit. Do you have a link to the specs of your hard drive? Specifically, what type of connection does it use? It can happen on pre-SP1 XP and/or if your motherboard is somewhat old. Either of these, or both, could be the problem. If you're installing from an XP SP1 or greater disc, then the problem is most likely the motherboard. If that is the case, you need to update the BIOS. There's a lot of info available about the problem here: http://www.48bitlba.com/ |

Do you actually have a Dlink Wireless device attached to, or otherwise connected to your PC (i.e. an antenna sticking out the back)? If so, then once you load the Dlink drivers, you will want to go into the control panel, Network connections: There it should list any network devices it recognizes, such as the DLink wireless device. You should be able to search for wireless networks by right clicking the wireless device. HOWEVER... if your PC is unable to recognize items placed into USB slots, then you may need to use another PC to download any and all drivers from the manufacturers website, place them on a CD, and then load them onto the problematic machine. Be creative =) |

^ Good advice, especially the "creative" part. ^_^ I often do that when I need to set up a computer that can't access the net. |

BTW, I should mention: once you do fix the issue causing the hard drive limit, you'll have re-partition the drive to access all 360GB. Which means either using a third party partitioning program to re-partition the drive or re-formatting the drive with an XP SP1 or greater disc. If the problem is that you are using a pre-SP1 XP disc, then your only real option is a third party partitioning program (unless you can find an XP SP1 or greater disc). |

Why would he need to repartition it? Leave it as is. I've got my 250GB drive split 3 ways. C for Windows, chat programs, etc... D for games E for creativity programs, images, projects. (3ds max, gtkradient, blah blah blah) |

Since the computer only recognized 137GB of the hard drive, that's all that got formatted. The rest is "unpartitioned space" that wasn't previously recognized. Which means that, even if he wanted a partitioned hard drive, he would still need to format that portion to make it usable. IIRC, I think you can just use disk management to do that. But if you want a single partition, I think you'll need a partitioning program to combine them. Or reformat with XP disc. |

But yeah, he can have multiple partitions if he wants. He doesn't have to combine them. |

Mmmk, turns out the conractors working on my house are pretty good with commputers. They managed to get it working properly, and hey guess what! They managed to get my internet on as well. It's on the LAN so it's much faster :D Can someone tell me how I can see what parts are in my computer without opening it up? I really don't feel like doing it. -.-;; |

Start > Run Type "dxdiag" (sans quotes) into the box and click ok. That will bring up a window with a lot of your system info and some tabs that take you to video and sound info. Alternatively, if your computer is pre-built (Dell, Gateway, HP, etc.), you can usually go to the company website and find the specs on your particular computer using the serial. |
