Well tonight I spent 7 hours backing up data from a woman's PC. She had two 236GB hard drives (the missing 14GB was allocated for recovery).

Formatted the drives (SATA), so I had to go buy a SATA/IDE/laptop external drive enclosure (needed one anyways).

Reinstalled the drives.

Reinstalled the O/S.

Downloaded the missing network and chipset drivers.

Reinstalled the drivers.

Reinstalled her programs.

Installed AVG and FireFox

Ran Windows updates. (All updates - hardware, software, and high priority)

Restored her data and ensured that the items opened in the correct programs.

Finally finished. *phew*

Hehe, been doing that for months with some hefty pay. Ranges anywhere from $25-$80 an hour depending on if it's private or corporate PC's. Was paid even more when I hooked up a network for Interstate Batteries at their corporate office in St. Louis, and I was still cheaper than licensed workers. I'm going to be getting a job as a sales executive at Best Buy in the electronics section soon so that I can save money to go to a video game design school and take some business management classes at my community college on the side.

I think I may post up a small freewebs website and advertise it at the apartment complex I will be moving into.

Make a price list for the different services I would offer.

Data backup/recovery

Reimage (reinstall of an O/S)

Wireless set up

Virus/spyware removals

etc..

If you ever need some extra employees that work super fast to help carry a large workload, give me a call. A lot of that I can do long distance via remote desktop.

Most of the work being done involves working on corrupted systems. Example, this last machine had a damaged explorer.exe and several missing windows files. Can't really remote into a machine like that unless there was a previously installed remote console application (DameWare, LANDesk, etc...).

More often than not, it requires physically removoing hard-drives, backing up the data replacing the drive and kicking off an O/S install.

For the same client I will be going back and taking an extra HD out of one of their machines and placing it into another machine currently using a faulty HD.

I need on-site help more than remote.

Thanks for the offer though. =)

Not necessarily denied. I could always move up there and work. I have nothing tying me down to the place that I'm at now, and something like ID is starting could easily turn into a competitor to Geek Squad.
