You'll be better off getting a DX10 as long as youre running vista, as vista unlocks the capabilities that DX10 brings with it. It will not add a negative effect to your old games, and also it will give a better stability to the glow features of games like JK3, so youll no longer get insane vis lag from dynamic glow. As far as being Phenom compatible, you'll always be able to upgrade within the socket range that you're using. Once you decide to buy a Phenom, make sure you purchase the correct socket size prior so that it will fit. If you have anything under AM2 size socket, you'll be paying largely extra in order to get a higher grade processor, seeing as it has to perform to higher standards with less pins. For example, the processor that I want for my PC now costs 2.5 times the price if I had an AM2 socket compared to my Socket 939 |

It would be a big mistake not to run Vista with all of its performance enhancements coming out with the SP1, not to mention it actually helps to get a better efficiency from your processor and RAM. If you dont run vista, dont get a DX10 gfx card. Only Vista has the ability to allow for the benefits of DX10. |

DX10 isnt compatilble with XP, you can install it but it doesn't do anything your computer will still recognise dx 9.0c. All new graphics cards are dx10 compatible so you won't have much of a choice. I have a 8600 GT in my laptop and it runs fine on XP and is 9.0c friendly |

They exist for laptops too, but if I'm not mistaken it's only 128 MB or 256 MB. Not very good at all for a normally DX10 card. Regardless, that wouldn't be a half bad card for a laptop. |

Dedicated cards are often swappable. By that I mean they can be replaced. Not sure about upgraded... |
