I know you're probably an AMD guy, but you can get WAY more performance out of a E8400 from Intel. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...15037&Tpk=e8400 It's faster and considerably more cheap than the q6600 quad core. |

You have to be careful when doing this... cuz if something aint compatible ur screwed... i much prefer intel now over AMD... call me crazy but intel has ran away with the cake... but just make sure you knw exactly what ur doing, and just to be safe, tell the computer guys there exactly what ur doing... And if possible tell us exact specs of the machine you want cuz i can work with specs... just not mb's... lol |

True, AMD might have been good back then, but it's behind now, even with its new Phenom CPUs. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2226943,00.asp That Q6600 is old too, and Intel is only starting to bring out the new Penryn's. Personally I want to go for the Q9450, pushes mind-blowing performance for the price. |

Phant trust me, you want a machine as best as possible so it lasts. When i bought my laptop i knew laptops are upgraded more, so i got the best of the best, im glad i did despite the $2500 price tag, this machine id only october old, so its still the maximum in it range, so i plan to sell it at the end of the year and upgrade again, and phant, intel has improved... heaps lol. ever since they upgraded from the pentium 4 they have been the best |

I appreciate your opinion kage but to keep your system at the best you would need to upgrade every 3 to 6 months in reality. But like i said before it's personal choice and with hardware and i ll stick with AMD. ^_^ |

I'm looking at the E8400 myself ZeroTM, should go great with the 680i A-1 I just got. AMD is only slightly behind, their dual cores put out just as well as Intel. And for awhile, better simply because they had a bigger cache size. AMD fell behind in Quad cores because they were smart enough not to rush. Intel was finally smart enough not to push something like the Pentium D this time... I only went Intel because of their better support for Linux. Otherwise, I'd be all about AMD. |

Let Intel push the limits and spend the money on R&D for a processor that supports very few linux machines (as in not many users running linux) and the train-wreck known as Vista. AMD can afford to hang back and let their dual cores continue to sell. I'm sure once the next Windows O/S is on the verge of showing itself, AMD is gonna bring the hammer down on us all with a processor that will cause us to stare open mouthed in shock and awe of it's performance, power efficiency, etc.. Until then I'll let my AMD turion run Vista on my laptop, and my AMD X2 3800+ and 6400+ black edition run WinXP and linux. ;) |

Will a Direct X 10 card have a negative effect on my older games? Also.. it possible to have a MOBO that is Phenom compatible as well? Dragons like to upgrade over time. |

Turion 64 X2 with 2GB RAM cache is 512KB + 512KB Level 2. It struggles, but it flies if I used system expansion (4 Gb flash drive as extra memory) |
