Ok, I've got a new processor that doesn't fit my current mobo.

AMD X2 6400+ black edition
Socket AM2
2000MHz Hyper transport
2 MB L2 Cache

I also have a bitchin CPU cooling fan. =X

I need a Mobo, Memory, Graphics card (PCI-E, something that won't ruin playing JKA and other games, I head DX-10 does that). Also a good hard drive or two for raid use (SATA - 3MB/s)
My current case should be fine, as well as my PCI sound card and Ethernet. My power supply is kickin.

keep in mind I'm not rich, I want good performance, low price.

Link me =)

On the cards for price/performance you can't go wrong with either a 8800GT 512mb/256mb

or the 3850/3870s which scale really well if you ever plan on crossfire. In crossfire you can hook em up with any other card later, doesn't matter what model as long as it supports crossfire.

Also some questions:

How much are you willing to pay for each part?

Do you care about future-proofing your mobo? (For future CPUs, cards, maybe adding an extra card later on.)

Do you prefer a single or a multi-GPU solution?

What operating system will you be running and what bit?

Just to add, the 8800 GT which is about $200 spanks the 9600 in terms of performance, which is worth the extra 40 dorras IMO. It's more "future-proof"

512MB GT ranging in the 260's right now.

9600GT/8800GS/8800GT benchmarks.

http://en.expreview.com/?p=184

These do not however ultimately reflect the order at which these cards would perform better in games. 9600GT comes close for 100 dollars less. That 8800GS is supposed to cost around 238USD when it's out.

I play SRO, JKA, occasionally CSS, UT2K4, JK2, and soon UT3.

I don't play ultra high end graphically intense games. Just need something that is going to last me a few years. ;)

Check it out ID,

Just found, game benchmarks (it actually performs better than the GS, possibly due to more mature drivers now):

Here's a relatively cheap Mobo for you: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...9727&CatId=2320

Since you are using AM2 Socket and you want future proofing. You need something with AM2+ socket, so you you can eventually upgrade to the AMD Phenoms and quadcores should they ever come out. Also, 800MHz for RAM is standard, look for something higher like 1066 or 1200MHz.

most AM2+ boards are retarded and overpriced.

Also.. Phenom is already out.

I somewhat believe a stock frequency beyond 800MHz doesn't affect performance on XP?

You won't see a big difference unless you go DDR3, but that's overpriced... best to wait.
