ok, so I am going to be writing a paper for a class I am in. And I want the paper to be about how video games should not be the source of blame for violence. At the same time I want to also turn it around and focus on the lack of parenting. (i.e. mom and dad buy little 9 or 10 year old Jimmy Scumbag an Xbox 360 and Halo 3 regardless of the ESRB rating, and never sit down and throughly explain to him/her the differences between video game violence and real violence.)

I need at least 3 credible sources of information on the topic. Wikipedia doesn't count. Websites ending with .edu or .org are the only credible sources acceptable.

It's a 10 page paper. Writing the paper is never hard for me, finding the information on it usually is my "Achilles Heal".

So this means I'll become a serial killer because I bought GTA3 at the age of 10? :(

In my opinion, game violence as a source for real life situations only happen if the person has some kind of a mental distortion.

Yes, but what these anti-gamers are talking about is that gaming CAUSES these mental disorders.

I disagree with it, games CAN cause you to get angry. Doesn't mean the game is a violent one. People can get angry over NBA hoops 2007, or Madden 2008, racing games. I don't recall anyone going out and killing people because they got massively owned in Madden, unless they were mentally unstable to begin with. The same would go for a violent game. It's fantasy, you choose to play it. Perhaps the parents should be observing their child more. When they game and when they don't game.

No study can be done to prove such thing as video game violence leads to real life violence. It is just a desirable outcome for those anti-gamers.

I believe it stems from home life and social life that causes violent behaviors. Gaming provides an escape, stress reduction, improved hand eye coordination, and entertainment. It doesn't produce violent individuals.

Yea I mean c'mon. If it was true, I'll be worst than Michael Myers in Haloween. I played an 18 years old game when I was 8.... There was girls in underwears stripping and showing their boobs when we gave them money o.o So video games is far from making little kidos becoming violent. It's just another excuses for these ''anti-gamers peoples''

=o and by the way, the game was Duke Nukem 3D XD :P Awsome game. There was an adult lock system but my oarents didn't care at all. It's even them who bought me the game XD I love my parents :P

After playing Duke Nukem 3D, I went out and bought MORE bubble gum so I, unlike Duke, wouldn't run out.

They say it will desensitize a child to violence, which maybe true. I believe it will desensitize them to media related violence. Movies, the news, video games. I doubt any video game can desensitize a child from face to face violence. The more likely suspect to desensitization would be negative aspects of their home life.

No matter video game's music or even movie's someone has to take the blame in the public 's eye. There are some instances that people get obsessed and do stupid thing's and the parent's somtime's are to dumb or just don't care about the sign's of an actual real problem.Hell i used to go to an arcade (yea i know im old) and i havn't killed anyone and i played shinobi mortal kombat and other game's but never hurt me or anyone well sort of but that is another story XD( damm slayer concert's and mosh pit's but i like the organized chaos)

"Achilles Heal".

1. I just finished reading about the battle of Troy and the journey of odysseus.

2. Heel not Heal

oh and so this is not totally off topic.

Videos games are certainly not the source of violence. That would be the R rated movies the parents take a 9 year old to go see. Tis the parents fault!
