It's come to my attention that most of you guys (as well as practically the entire SRO community) have no clue on how to do party-style European gameplay. There are 3 major RPG and MMORPG types: Chineese/Martial Arts/Force: This gameplay type revolves around martial arts with some form of mystical "chakra", "Chi", etc that play the role of magical abilities. Party gameplay is little to none in this area, it's pretty much just a bunch of people using their own individual tastes and smashing things. Tactical/Interactive: This gameplay type revolves around more of the SpaceCowboy/SWG/etc games. There are various ways to play the game, either the Chineese "Customization" way, or the European "Dedicated Class/SubClass" way. The most you'll do in a Party situation is solve missions together, etc. European Style: Job/Ability system: This is what made the FF series and other classic RPGs famous. Everyone has a dedicated class, and in some games, two classes. (For example: In FFXI, you can have your main job and a sub job. Your sub job is half of whatever your current main job level is. You can use all sub job abilities up to your sub job level.) Party gameplay is pretty much crucial in any European style MMORPG. Everyone has their Job/Class, and they all bring unique aspects to the party which you need in order to fight monsters that are higher level than you. (In SRO, this is signified by the Party Monster icon. In FFXI etc, they have a gauge system from Too Weak (no exp) to Incredibly Tough (highest exp). You can have a level 15-16 party fighting level 24 mobs.) In this guide, I'll attempt to generalize everything, but I may make references to Pay-to-Play MMOs, just because that is where my expertise was learned. To find a specific section, use CTRL+F, and type the following to search: [001]-Tanks, Warriors, etc. [002]-Nukers, Enfeeblers, Evokers, and Diviners [003]-Healers, Support, Etc. [001]............................................................................................................... Melee, Ranged, and Tanks SRO names: Warrior, Rogue Melee, Ranged attackers, and Tanks are the basic foundation for most parties. They are able to take an excellent ammount of damage most times, and they do most of the "Hazard Control" for the party. It is the healers job to keep these guys alive, for they are your frontline fighters. In Euro SRO, Warriors are your main tanks. I've seen Rogues take a few hits and be pretty good at sustaining damage, but Warriors is where it's at. Warriors, your job is to do nothing but Melee and Take damage. That's all. You don't have to worry (most of the time) about bringing pots to parties, but it's safe to have them just in case. Your gear is the area where you'll spend the most money. [002]............................................................................................................... Nukers, Enfeeblers, Evokers, and Diviners SRO names: Warlock, Wizard, Bard(in some aspects), Clerics(in some aspects) Right, this is a big category, so I'll break it down. Nukers: Nukers are Wizards. Plain and Simple. If you have a /Wizard class, you're also considered a half-nuke. Nukers are full-time Elemental spellcasters. Your job is to use elemental magic on the enemy, doing most of the DD as far as mages go. However, be warned, as you're not built to take damage very well. Shippo will attest to this XD Half-Nukers are there to provide a little extra damage if the Nuker's MP runs low, or if the enemy is very succeptable to magic attacks. Otherwise, stick to your primary job class. When you are attacked as a Nuker or Half-Nuker with another mage class, you want to try to alert one of the Melees right away. Either that, or pray to god a Healer was paying attention. Enfeeblers: Enfeeblers are mostly Warlocks, but they can also be Bards, Wizards, Chineese characters, and Rogues. Rogues are more of a Melee Enfeebler, kind of like a Ninja in FFXI or a Necromancer in Diablo 2. They have poison abilities, stunning, etc. Chineese have many force abilities that enfeeble, or "Trip up" the enemy. Bards can also enfeeble, because they have some abilities such as Noise and whatever that Grounding move is called (freezes enemy in place). Warlocks are the heavy Enfeebling class. Their curses do DOT or Damage over Time, and they also lower stats, poison, etc. Your job in the party is to make the fight easier by.. pardon my language.. fucking with the mob's head. Diviners: These are the.. "ugly ducklings" of the Cleric/White Mage/etc Jobs. A Diviner is basically a Holy version of a Wizard/Black Mage/etc. All your damage comes from "god" or some other holy source. Things like Trial Cross, Sacrifice, etc. My advice if you're going to be a diviner: Don't make it the ONLY thing you do. Parties RARELY need a Diviner, and you'll just be wasting SP/Mana. Evokers: I've yet to find any examples of an Evoker type job or spell. If anyone finds this, please let me know. [003]............................................................................................................... Healers, Support, Buffs, and Beastmasters. SRO names: Cleric, Bard, Warlock (a bit). Note: I'll get beastmaster out of the way quick. This is basically someone who lets their Wolf/Bird/White Wolf do all the talking and damage dealing. They specialize in pet abilities, etc. This can also be a Rogue who's mastered Beast Mask or Monster Mask. Healers: This is your life line for the party folks. Your job is a simple one: Heal, Heal, Heal, and do some buffing in between healing. Your job is to provide Healing and "Holy Intervention" to your party members. It is ok to attack ONLY when you're comfortable with healing and you've pretty much got it under control. If you're swarmed, DO NOT ATTACK. Just focus on everyone's HP. Support: This is the Bard and Warlock people. They provide all the support like Marches, Dances, Lifting curses, etc. Bards, one of your MOST valuable abilities is Mana Cycle. This restores MP for anyone you target, almost instantly, and also stays around for a few seconds to provide a little extra regeneration. In FFXI, we call this song Mages Ballad, and it's a party wide effect that restores about 5mp every 10 seconds or so. Red Mages in FFXI also have a SRO Bard type Mana Cycle ability called Refresh, but it does the same effect only more powerful of Mages Ballad. Here, you've got an instant Mana Pot that can be reused in shorther than 15 seconds :P Bards job in the party is to either enfeeble with the offensive songs, or do Dances/Marches to help the party out. Since your songs stay a while, it's ok to also help half-nuke or DD. ....................................................................................................................... And there you have it folks, there's a general, basic, clean rundown of European style gameplay. If anyone has any questions, post them here and I'll answer ^_^ -Majlor, Rogue -Zephyrius, Bard/Cleric |

*Ehm.* >.> It's not my fault all the mobs love me... and try to rape me all at the same time... Honestly, the two best mixtures for builds are Rogue + Cleric and Wizard + Bard. Rogues are beastly little beings that can hold their own very well as they can attack hard and fast close range or long range. Being Cleric will allow you to fall back in long range if you are out of ammo or need to heal yourself while still doing hearty damage. Not to mention it's a great sight for dead players to see a Cleric come running past. Wizards are amazingly strong nukers and are amongst the best standalone classes, but carrying fifty thousand MP pots gets expensive. This is where being a Bard comes in. Bards have a really powerful attack system, and can recharge MP really fast to get back to nuking. Inbetween nuking and recharging MP, take the time to buff your group's MP and damaging abilities. Warlock and Bard would be an iffy mixture, but theoretically powerful. Having the ability to drain HP and MP from your opponents, place really quick HP draining curses on them, and then holding them in place with your music skills can come in handy for larger monsters. Both have pretty powerful attacks, but your main benefits will be life and mana preservation for grinding. |
