From MSN: the introduction of Thom (and of Griff, but no one likes him.)

OOC: Thom is actually based off the emokid OYL!Bart. And Griff's based off Griff, but it turned out canon!Griff had speed stuff, and we gave our Griff elecricity, so we count Griff as an OC. But Thom's not an emokid, and he's also not the speedforce. Here's his intro into our RP.

This is also not in our usual RP form. Because I'm silly and decided to put it into third person narrative! yay!
---
Duckie couldn't deny that the guy named Thom who was staring at her looked a bit like an older version of Bart. "You look like Bart in a couple years."

Thom stared at Duckie like she was crazy. Inertia and Momentum ran up, catching up to Duckie's portal.

"Who's this guy?" Inertia asked. "He looks like Bart in a couple years."

"Would people quit saying that?!" Thom asked.

"I don't know what they're talking about," Momentum smiled. "You don't look like Bart..."

Chester coughed, and it sounded suspiciously like "Down, girl"

"Who is Bart, anyways?" Thom wanted to know. Duckie shrugged. Griffin noticed that there was a party going on around his roommate.

"Why isn't anyone paying attention to me?" he demanded.

"Because you're an attention whore," Inertia replied.

"I'd really rather be left alone, thanks," Thom said.

Duckie grinned. "Lookit him! He's angsting!"

"Really? Alone?" Momentum pouted. This made Thom blush slightly.

"Er, um..."

Chess grinned. "So we'll just leave you alooone.."

"Not you," Chess laughed.

Duckie laughed as well, and portalled herself and Chess back to their HQ. Inertia muttered something about having to work on stuff and ran off. Griffin, shocked that he'd been called an attention whore, had wandered off to find some fangirls. Momentum smiled, and tried to smooth her hair.

"So... superheroes, huh?" Thom asked.

"Um, yeah.. Random Irregulars."

"All four of you?"

"Well, no. Duckie and I are.. And Dem.. We're planning on expanding the team, though," Momentum answered.

Thom frowned. "Don't let Griffen hear that, he'll do anything to be known by more than just the people in this town."

"What's his schtick?"

"He manipulates Electricity."

Gina shrugged. "I think that'd interfere with both Duckie's and my powers a little.. Besides, we kind of have an all-girl thing going."

"Then, what was with the speedster guy?"

"He's not on the team.. He'd be redundant anyway."

"Oh, so he was just here randomly?"

Gina grinned. "Yeah. I'm the speedster in this team."

Thom sighed, then said quietly, "there's a lot of speedsters these days..."

"If it weren't for that muffin.."

Thom looked surprised. "A muffin?"

"I got my powers from a muffin," Gina answered, blushing. "Long story."

Thom chuckled. "That's one of the few lighthearted origins I've heard. Usually it's all "I got electrocuted" or "I'm the only survivor of my destroyed home planet" or something."

Gina smiled. "So what's yours?"

"I don't do the superhero thing. Not anymore."

"So.. what'd you do.. before?"

Thom blushed, a bit embarrassed. "I was a speedster."

"I KNEW it!"

"Um, okay?"

Gina smiled. "So what happened?"

"Well, I was really young when I got my speed, I might even have been born with it, so I don't really remember how it happened, if anything happened, and my parents never wanted to tell me. And then, about a year ago, it started to go crazy... erratic and the like. so... I stopped."

"Want a muffin?" Gina asked, smiling.

"... is it a normal muffin?"

"I was making a joke. Chess doesn't allow me near any kind of baking supplies."

"Oh. Who's Chess?"

"My best friend. The tall, very gay guy."

"Oh. So... why'd they all leave and you didnt?"

"Because Chess is an insufferable matchmaker."

"Oh..." Thom trailed off, blushing again. "But... we've only just met."

Gina laughed. "Well, I do have a reputation as a fast woman." This made Thom laugh quietly. Then Gina decided to change the subject.

"I like your hair."

"Thanks, I guess."

It was now Gina's turn to blush, which was followed by an awkward silence.

"So, um..." Thom said.

"I have red boots.." Gina added.

Thom blinked, noticing this. "Yes, yes you do."

"Did your costume have red on it?"

"I had a red belt..."

"What is it about speedsters and red?"

"The other Speedster who was here was in green," Thom pointed out.

"He's.. a special case."

"Oh?"

"Sort of an antihero, I guess."

"Oh. So he's green to be opposite to the red, then."

Gina grinned. "Yeah."

"That still leaves the whole speedsters and red connection to be explained, then, doesn't it?"

"Maybe it's the connection to sportscars.. You know.. Hello Officer red."

"Yeah, Red probably has had associations with speed for quite a while."

"Really, if you think about it, all superheros have colors that bring up a certain feeling or meaning," Gina said.

Thom thought about this. "Hm. Well, Batman's in black to be all scary."

"Green's a color of either nature or mystery.."

"What about Duckie, then? what does purple mean?"

"It's an ancient color of royalty and balance. It's got some spiritual connotations too."

"So, she's supposed to be royal, balanced, and spiritual? What does she do?"

"She's a mage. Portals, mainly."

"Oh."

"Are you hungry?" Gina asked.

"Now that you mention it, yes," Thom replied.

"Thank god, I'm starved!"

"So, what would you like to eat?"

"Hm.. I'm really not picky.."

"There's a nice diner in the next town over. Everything here's all caught up in the Griffen-mania."

Gina smirked. "Lucky bastard gets a mania.. In Irving Harbor, I hardly get any press." She stopped and shrugged. "Though, half the time, they don't know I've been there."

"He doesn't have a secret identity, either. I'm half waiting for a mildly smart villian to show up. Except then I'd probably be attacked."

"Chess gives me hell because I wear my boots all the time. I tell him that no one's looking at my boots. Besides, they're comfy."

"I think Chess should be more worried about been seen with you both in and out of costume."

"So you're saying he's my Jimmy Olsen.. He's rarely seen in public with me in costume."

"Yeah, except Jimmy Olsen never knew Superman's identity. "

"He's not that bright," Gina replied. "When I'm in costume, Chess is in a safe, neutral spot, and I'd know if something happened to him."

"Ah, you hide him in your HQ?"

"It's not just hiding. He works."

"Oh? What does he do?"

"Maintanance.. Organizational stuff.."

"Ew, boring."

"Not really. He's also got his boyfriend there. We really have to force him to do any work."

"How did his boyfriend react to finding out about the superhero stuff?"

"He's.. not too unfamilar with it. He's Duckie's Chess, basically."

"Oh."

"So they're kind of perfect for each other.."

"It does make things less complicated."

"So how'd your powers go?" Gina asked.

"I'd like to say they went crazy while I was saving the world from a maniac, but really, I wasn't saving anyone. I was going to tell my girlfriend at the time about my powers, and if she adjusted, I was going to propose to her. Well, before I could to that, she broke up with me. On the phone. Then she ran of with another guy. And then my speed started to become erratic. It switches from being out-of-control to being completely gone. Pretty lame, to lose your superpowers because you got dumped..."

"Oh.." Gina trailed off, then muttered, "that bitch..."

"Um, yeah," Thom said. "Well, apparently, Griffen's a better superhero than Sprint ever was, so it's no big deal." He parked the car. "And this is the diner."

"Don't beat yourself up like that.. I think you're better than Griffen.. I mean, I don't know Griffen that well, but he was getting on my nerves.."

"He's an attention whore... as the green speedster said. Um, what's the green guy's name, anyway?"

"That's Inertia. He's like.. half brother to Kid Flash."

"Oh."

Gina looked at the diner's menu. "You know it's a good diner if the menu has pictures."

"Precisely," Thom agreed.

The waitress came around, and Gina ordered one of the specials and a chocolate malt. Thom ordered the club sandwhich and a chocolate malt. Gina grinned.

"So you're a malt person too?"

"This diner makes the best."

"So how is it that you know Griffen?"

"Well, he was a childhood friend, and now that we're in college, we're roommates."

"What's your major?"

"Business."

Gina grinned. "I've changed my major so many times.. The first time, I was Chemistry and Culinary Arts. That was before.. and the cause.. of the muffin."

"Uh-oh. So, what is it now?"

"Art History, French, and Psych."

"What school do you go to that lets you have a triple major?"

"Irving University. Actually, Psych is a minor.."

"Oh. So you're from Irving Harbour, then?"

"Yeah. I'm a Maine girl."

"Duckie isn't. She sounds more western."

"Duckie's not only western, she's Canadian. Centreville."

Thom didn't know where Centreville was, but assumed it was pretty far from Maine. "So, how did you meet, then?"

"Dem," Gina answered simply.

"Dem?"

"Demiguise? Duckie and Dem met when they were Titans, and Dem's an east coast girl too, and we met at a big.. thing.. disaster, whatever.. in Providence,"

"Oh. Just tell me if I'm asking too many questions, okay?"

Gina Slurped her malt. "I figure I was asking too many earlier, so I guess turnabout is fair play."

"Okay."

Thom watched as Gina slurped her malt some more. Gina noticed, and blushed.

"Oh, god.. That was rude, wasn't it?"

Thom shrugged. "I've seen worse."

Gina grinned. "If Chess were here.. He'd be lecturing me about manners.."

"It's a good thing he's not here, then. I find lectures really boring."

Gina blew her bangs out of her eyes. "I've just learned to distract him from them."

Thom finished eating his sandwhich before replying. "And how do you do that?"

"Glossy magazines work well."

"Fashion magazines?"

"Sometimes. Sometimes they're those gossip rags, sometimes.. though rarely.. Home magazines"

"Couldn't you get his boyfriend to distract him, too?"

"I can now.." Gina replied, grinning.

"Well, that's good then, isn't it?"
"Yeah." She slurped again. "You know what I hate about the whole hero thing?"

"The amount of responsibility?"

"It's damn near impossible to date."

Thom sighed. "You can say that again."

"It's really no wonder why there's all sorts of romantic drama between heroes."

"Well, there's a limited amount of choice if you're really serious about the secret identity thing."

"Exactly." Gina smirked. "I bet Griffen doesn't have any trouble, right?"

Thom rolled his eyes. "He has a posse of fangirls."

"I have a theory.. The more fangirls a guy has, the more likely he'll turn out to be gay."

"He's probably got a few fanboys, too. The whole town, it seems, is crazy about him."

"He's bound to make a mistake and leave the town in a blackout. And then.. not so crazy."

"True."

"The general public is fickle."

"Yeah... I know."

"I bet you hate cellphone commercials."

"Hm?"

"Especially the Sprint ones," Gina elaborated, then slurped again."

"Oh, yeah," Thom remembered. "It's kind of annoying. Though, at least I'm not named after an act of public indecency, like it's so tempting to do."

Gina laughed. "Yeah.. I'm just a law of physics here.."

"As is Inertia."

"Chess, the jerk, suggested Muffin Maiden. But then I'd have to throw muffins.. and my costume wouldn't be a stylish.."

"And it has nothing to do with your powers, though, not that many superheroes these days do have names related to their powers."

"I like to think that we speedsters are still holding onto the related names.. But eventually they'll run out of things that have to do with speed."

"Especially since Green Arrow already stole Speedy," Thom agreed.

"Way to mess that up, Oliver.. Maybe he did that because Batman stole Robin, which would work better with that whole Nottingham thing he's going for.."

"Yeah, I still don't get how a robin can get along with a Bat."

"I think Flying Squirrel would've been more accurate and appropriate.."

"I don't think anyone has that name."

"Yeah, well, have you met the current Robin? He's got squishable cheeks."

"You guys are the first heroes I've met other than me and Griff."

"Really? That's a shame."

"It's not I ever got a chance to."

"Aw," Gina said, finishing her food.

"So, you've met Robin?"

"Once. He.. apparently doesn't like being patronized. He's TINY."

Thom laughed. "You patronised Robin?"

"It's hard not to. He's tiny. Besides, Kid Flash was fine with it. How was I to know that Robin would flip out?"

"Because he works with Batman, probably. Kid Flash sounds like he was more fun, though."

"He's all hair and feet," Gina replied, then grinned. "It's funny."

"Have you met him more than once, or just the once, as well?"

"More than once. Kid Flash tends to drop in once he knows you.."

"So he's outgoing?"

"He's got no concept of alone time."

Thom sighed wistfully. "I wish I'd been able to get into the superhero community more."

Gina grabbed Thom's hand. "Who says you still can't?"

Thom blushed slightly at the physical contact. "Well, no one, I guess."

"I mean.. The Bats and the Arrows don't have powers.. But no one denies that they have a part in the superhero community."

"My name wouldn't make any sense."

"Neither does Robin."

"Okay, so you have a point."

"Want to do something else? Gina asked. "The waitress is glaring at us.."

"Yeah, we should probably leave," Thom agreed, and pulled out his wallet.

"I can pay my part," Gina said, reaching into her pocket.

"Okay, if you want."

There was an awkward pause.

"That didn't come out right. Sorry," Thom said quickly.

"It's.. ok." Gina smiled. "I'm not used to this.."

Thom laughed nervously. "Neither am I, really."

"So I guess this is going Dutch?"

"Yeah, I think so."

Gina paid her part, laughing. "Oh, god.. we're so awkward.."

Thom grinned, and paid his part. "So... where to now?"

"I don't know. This is your patch.." she grinned. "It's starting to rain.."

"Do you like the rain?"

"Only sometimes. I like drizzles like this."

"Heavy rain isn't fun. Not unless it's warm out."

"And it's definitely not warm out.."

"No, it's October."

"And it's a cold one too.." Gina rubbed her hands together.

"Do you need a jacket?" Thom asked. "I have a sweater on underneath, I'll be fine."

" Really?"

Thom gave Gina his jacket. "Yes, really."

Gina smiled. "You're such a gentleman.." This made Thom blush.

"It's true," she said.

"Thanks."

"So where are we going?" Gina asked, then leaned on Thom. "There's not much open at this hour, is there?"

"No, not really. Most people just go to lookout spots... and do anything but look out."

Gina grinned. "Well, that's an idea.."

Thom snorted. "Not very gentlemanly if I do that on a first date."

Gina kept grinning. "Remember.. Fast woman, here.." She laughed. "Want to see our HQ? I could run you there.. Or I could get Duckie to open a portal.."

"That sounds like fun. Sure."

Gina took out her Random Irregulars communicator, and called Duckie. "Hey, Duckie?"

"Yeah?" came the reply.

"Can you open up a portal here that goes to HQ?"

"A portal from you to the HQ? Sure." A portal appeared in front of them almost as soon as Duckie had finished talking. Gina put away the communicator, and pulled Thom through into the control room, where Duckie was sitting, reading a comic book.

"Oh, it's you," Duckie said. "Have fun?"

"I felt like showing him around..." Gina said.

Duckie grinned. "Don't go up into the light room. Well, you could, but Ricky and Chess are up there."

Gina rolled her eyes, and headed out to show Thom the parts of the lighthouse that weren't the light room.

The end! Of this section.
