TNA may lose the Impact Zone.........

According to a source within TNA, the company could be losing their home arena at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL (dubbed the "Impact Zone") as a direct result of a possible lawsuit from former Knockouts wrestler Shannon "Daffney" Spruill.

While Daffney's claim is being filed, there is a strong possibility that if TNA does not comply, the company, along with the "Impact Zone" owners Universal Studios, may be named in a liability lawsuit.

"It is one thing for TNA to get sued, but when it becomes Universal's problem, they may just say 'To hell with TNA," says one TNA employee. " [TNA is] too much of a liability [to Universal] if that happens.'"

Considering Daffney had been seriously injured in a TNA ring at the "Impact Zone," she would have the grounds to sue the wrestling promotion and the venue owners if she does not get what she wants--and deserves.

Based on this latest development, many within the company are in panic-mode, although some TNA wrestlers claim those in power are still too clueless to realize the potentially serious ramifications of this issue.

One TNA insider joked that TNA fans miraculously survived the Southern storms during an Alabama house show. The reason? No one was there.

As for how this would effect the Impact television show, it is said that this potential lawsuit would dampen TNA's rebranding efforts. Sources say that Spike TV's (Impact's TV home) new regime wants to broaden the network's male-centric demographic, thus putting more emphasis on shows like "Coal."

TNA Impact is safe for now, given the show's consistent viewership. The show's venue is not safe.

I can see them touring if this happens. Of course it's only a possibility so take it with a pinch of salt.

If Daffney fucks TNA over, I'll love her forever. (I already do, but whatever.)

Ditto. Daffney is already 2000 kinds of awesome, this would add to her list.

Another nail is about to be hit in the TNA coffin. Soon be gone forever unless Vince takes the shareholders advice and make a offer for the company. It's a "50/50 shot" after all.

Oops, just noticed that.

FIXED.

BTW losing the Impact Zone could be a blessing in disguise for TNA - they got better numbers on the road if I recall correctly. It could work as it did for WCW. They had decent numbers while at Universal Studios, but they got big when they got out, and on the road.

Plus, I think they still have the Asylum in Tennessee.

Disney was at Disney MGM Studios and got the same numbers every week. Saturday Night/Pro/Worldwide tapings remained there even when Nitro went on the road (and when they claimed to be at such and such civic center) longer than that, and, again, their C-list wrestlers got to wrestle in front of a full house every night.

TNA's attendance depends on a number of things, namely how wrestling-starved the area is and how many tickets it gives away for free. The Lockdown show they just did in Cincinnati was done before a half-full US Bank arena (which is a stupidly large arena for them to try to book) and half the audience didn't pay. So traveling runs a few risks...

1. You need to start paying places to do your show, as opposed to it being free.
2. You need to ship your set, your ring, your everything from arena to arena, as opposed to it having a set location and only moving 10 or so times a year.
3. You run the risk of pissing off the talent you signed on the basis that there was less travel than WWE.
4. You run the risk that 500 people show up to a 3,000 seat arena and aren't as likely to boo/cheer along with the people TNA want them to.
5. You certainly run the risk that the only people who'd get a reaction are the Scott Steiners and Kurt Angles and Stings of the promotion. The X-Division could face the silence usually reserved for a Super Calo/Hector Garza match.

I think that, for a company on the verge of total collapse, doing road shows would only exacerbate the situation they're currently in.

If TNA is still around in 5 years, I have a riverbed farm in Oklahoma to sell.

Ha. People have been predicting the demise of TNA for too long now. I'm going in the opposite direction and saying it will outlast us all.

I contend TNA will in fact get younger, like a corporate Benjamin Button, changing wrestling history as it goes. I eagerly await Argentina Rocca vs Lou Thesz in an Ultimate X match.

Joker, I'm curious as to how TNA is just like WCW.

Old veterans being around way longer than people wanting them.

The young talent that can wrestle and is entertaining is being shelved or released (Jay Lethal)

The in-ring action is normally quite good, but the booking is so God-awfully atrocious, it turns people off of the show.

Hogan

Russo

Bischoff

Immortal is basically a rehash of the nWo, even down to the music.

The way I see it is this...

WCW had a few periods of time when it was unquestionably the best professional wrestling product on television. They managed to properly book international stars like Muta and Liger and the luchadores, tried to establish joshi wrestling in the states after the WWF dropped the ball, and filled gigantic arenas for free TV shows. They competed with and nearly took down Vince McMahon thanks to the popularity of one of the three guys you mentioned and the idea of one of the others. They lasted on Monday Night against Raw for six years. With Goldberg, Sting, and Diamond Dallas Page alone, they created stars the likes of which TNA would shit their beds for. The list of people they dropped the ball on--Triple H, Steve Austin, Cactus Jack, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero and so on--are also the kinds of guys Dixie Carter would shit her bed for.

When TNA has a tenth of the success WCW did, feel free to make the comparison.

The most wonderful thing about WCW is it managed to put Sid Vicious in a five star match.
