Without HBK vs Taker this would've easily been a 2/10 for a Wrestlemania but that match only made the PPV half-decent. 5.5/10 Looks like this thread didn't break the one I started when Jericho returned to RAW. Was hoping it would. Goodnight folks. |

Yer Takers fall was nasty..... Punk winning again! Ugh! Jeff losing! ARGH~! Cena's entrance was mega ghey~! The highlight for me was switching over to VH1 to see Guns N Roses' November Rain video clip instead of watching KID MOTHAFUCKING ROCK~! "perform" IMO these manias get worse every year! |

Also: I'd like to know what the crowd was looking at and cheering for about 10 mins into the match. Prob the Hulk Hogan Impersonator from WMXX. Haha! |

Since when? I doubt anyone would agree WM 1 was greater than 17 or 19. |

Tomorrow, we'll be subjected to around 30 video packages. Twice that if Rourke winds up on ET or Access Hollywood knocking Jericho out. |

Pretty disappointing, but HBK vs. Taker was fucking incredible. Main event was good and the rest was blah. |

Just got back from watching it. Taker/HBK was awesome. Just pure awesome. Steamboat was mighty impressive for being 56 and not wrestling for 15 years. Everything else was pretty disappointing. Well, maybe not disappointing because I didn't expect much but nothing exceeded expectations. Average, maybe good but nothing more. |

Steamers said that he was at maybe 85% from where he was in 1994. I kind of wish that he'd been in there longer to see if that was really the case. He got Lance to mark out, which is pretty goddamn impressive in and of itself. |

Much better, and shocker, when Cena won the title. Oh and I'm watching the replay...what the fuck was Piper thinking going for a dropkick? Edited by President Skroob, Apr 6 2009, 04:02 AM.

Some brief points: Why did Punk win again? Why do they continue to job him out, giving him a belt or MitB, only to snatch it away from him? The fact he won again pretty much guarantees that he’ll be champion, and though that could be some time in the future, I’d have stuck him with the I-C belt for the meantime. I went into this ‘Mania having no emotional investment in the matches: I knew he was in with a shot last year, and he did win it, but I was so sure he wasn’t going to do anything here that his victory was just kinda numb. They’re like a dollar on a piece of string, convincing Punk he’s ready for the BIG time and then cruelly snatching it away from him. The match itself was crap, probably the weakest of these ones yet. Kane, Henry, and Finlay are only there because they can’t find anywhere else for them on the show, Benjamin’s only there to carry the thing, and Hornswoggle is there to provide some comic relief, and in the process, just copy what he did last year. Would have marked for the Christian win, as the crowd was going to until a Russo-rific swerve. Would have preferred the Diva match up later, so I could pee down the sink in the kitchen when I really needed to. KID MOTHAFUCKING ROCK~!’s concert went on for so long it entered the realms of parody; I really started to think he had double-booked the place with the E and they decided just to share the place. I couldn’t make out anyone in the match; all blonde hair and big tits. It’s incredible the depths of ignorance the commentators force themselves to go to, when there’s a man dressed up in pink in the ring and they pretend not to notice him, or when they do, make it known that they don’t know how it was. Horrific. Saying that, I thought the three commentators for the whole night worked rather well. There was no democratization as in previous years, so we were spared Todd (shudder) making sporadic statements and bringing the whole match down a peg. Certainly better than having six commentators at ringside, and something to bear in mind for next year, methinks. I loved the start of the legends match, with Piper getting his arm stuck in the ropes. That’ll show Jericho. The only one to come out with any respect from this match was Steamboat. Why were we subjected to years of Flair’s plastic gut and paper-thin skin when Steamboat still has the body and moves? It’s a sign of what Steamboat can do when, in front of a crowd 90% of which doesn’t know who he is, he can get them really caught up with it all. Rourke was embarrassing, and made me feel less sorry for him that he lost the Oscar. Hardys just didn’t interest me. You just knew what this match was going to be like. Compare this with how you felt watching a Hart match, even today. Pass. There’s nothing more I could say about the next match. Probably the best I’ve seen in years; maybe the best WWE match since they last hooked up in the HitC. Loved, simply loved, the cameraman catching ‘Taker, a neat allusion to their HitC match. Saved the card in general. Wouldn’t have been worth staying up all night, spending 15 quid on it, and buying 20 pound’s worth of sweets otherwise. Incredible. Triple threat felt like an above-average match you’d see on Smackdown. Ending was a bit off. I’m more interested in the reproductive lives of slugs than I am with Vicki, and if bringing Big Show into the equation was a way of spicing up the rivalry between Cena and Edge, they failed. Cena’s entrance probably had the sum total of adults over 18 who still actually like him. I would have liked a bit more from the Hall of Fame inductees. Great to see Funks there; I’ve got their inductee speech taped, and it’s meant to be great. Austin’s shenanigans felt a bit clichéd, but probably a nice way of cutting his ties and getting on with his film career. Liked his beer with J.R. Again, main event never got going in a way these matches need to. Again, the ending felt a bit laboured: there was no edge of the seat stuff, just a nice summation of Triple H’s dominance over anyone in his way. Their match a few months ago (I can’t remember the PPV, it was when Trips won the title then lost it again) was far better. I was probably expecting some kind of swerve, and was left disappointed when it didn’t happen. Admittedly, I did fall asleep as this point with broken Pringles and with Nutella spread over my face but it was the match equivalent of a boring crime scene: nothing to see here. Probably sums up the whole thing in general. |
