HOPEFULLY getting tickets to see Muse on March 5. I've been trying to get tickets since December but no luck yet. Gonna see The Flaming Lips on April 19. That should be awesome. |

I saw Passion Pit at Bonnaroo last year. I wasn't really that impressed, though they might be better when God isn't trying to drown me. |

Yeah I spent a few minutes listening to some of their stuff and it's not good. I'm not getting anything out of going and it's fucking cold out. I think I'm passing the tickets off. It wasn't awful, but that had more to do with the drunk guy trying to hit on my somewhat homophobic friend. Edited by Mutant Couch, Feb 19 2010, 08:44 AM.

I forgot to mention last year, I saw a ton of shitty tribute acts at the Mathew Street festival. Spurted beer everywhere when Whole Lotta Led played Immigrant Song, got in a few fights, etc. Also some Liverpool based bands you won't have heard of. Greatest of all though was Richard Thompson in New Brighton, of all places. A real contender for "greatest musical artist alive." |

I'm seeing Joanna Newsom tonight. I expect great things. I'm seeing St. Vincent tomorrow. It'll be the first time I see her play a full set, as she's played a festival set and opened for Andrew Bird once, so I suspect she'll tear through most of her two albums, which will be great. |

Joanna was great. The only drawback to seeing her, the constant need to keep the harp in tune aside, is that her songs are so long that she'll likely only play two or three of your favorites on any given night. Seeing her live really illustrates the depth of her songwriting--she's done so much, and is only three albums into her career. The musicians around her are also great--two violins, one trombone, percussion, and the guy who arranged Have One on Me, who plays guitar, banjo, and every other stringed, pluckable thing on the record. Since the focus is naturally on Joanna, people were startled when somebody else broke out over the harp and her voice. Just fascinating to see it happen live, which usually isn't the case with music. |

Saw St. Vincent last night. I guess it was her last show on her tour or something like that. The opening act was a chamber orchestra who did Annie Clark's (that's St. Vincent) first chamber composition, which was basically one of the short songs from Actor given orchestration. She also did a few songs with the group, which was cool. Added a nice, fully-rounded feel to it. And she covered Nico's "These Days," which was fantastic. |

Did she do "Apocalypse Song"? How is she live, excuse the vagueness? Does she extend the songs at all, mix it up a bit, or is it just like a repeat of the album? I wanted to see her in London last May, but never was able to get tickets... alls I'm asking, did I miss much? |

I think the only song she did from the first album was "Your Lips Are Red." Seeing as I've seen her three times (once was at Bonnaroo), I do think she's worth seeing. It's not an exact repeat of the album, as instrumentation and arrangements change, and she gets a chance to play guitar more frequently, which she does well. At the other two, she did other older songs. If I remember right, she did Apocalypse Song at Bonnaroo. I think she didn't do much from the first album because it was her last night supporting Actor. |

Ah. You lucky dog! It's festival season coming up soon, and I was gunning to go to a terrible festival just for the fun of it (like V, with the TING TINGS!!), but then people got poor and dropped out and usual shenanigans! Alas... Still, there's another one called Truck, indie but not that shit Mr. Brightside, Arctic Monkeys kind of indie, may end up there somehow. Any you buckaroos going to a festival? |
