Being that I am a black person I think I can explain this. We don't do it because we don't want to be part of America, or to segregate ourselves. We do it to celebrate how far we've come as a race, and look at how far we have yet to go.

This is something that I think white people just won't understand, and that doesn't make you racist, it makes you ignorant. Its okay to have ignorance of a culture. But there are things from white culture that we will never understand so its okay.

We are all Americans, we can all be the same, because we're all humans, but if don't celebrate our culture, there are young people growing up that might forget where we came from, and the stupidity of a lot of young blacks that you see may be tenfold. If we don't follow the traditions set up by our forefathers (the good traditons anyway) the state of our race will end up sad.

You don't have to get it, and quite frankly most of us don't expect you to.

I don't think you as a black man even understand the reasoning behind it. It was created in order to get black history included in schools, it wasn't meant to be an on going thing. What was taught during the month was supposed to be integrated into the curriculum. I'm sure the people behind it are/would be entirely pissed that it's still been kept separate. Also, it's not just me being a whitey and not getting it, since a lot of people of your own race are against it feeling it's undermining to the fight for equality to continue separating your race's history from the history as a whole. It's absolutely great to celebrate your culture, no one's suggesting you stop, it's just ridiculous and seemingly counter-productive to find it acceptable that setting aside one month a year to do it is okay. Before you claim ignorance on my part again, I should ass that I'm also against Women's History Month too, even though it's not nearly as celebrated and rarely if ever brought up in school. It's the whole fighting for equality thing again it seems like a step backwards to want it to be special from the rest of history.

Umm...no it's not. It's not even at 500 yet.

Surely you mistake 5,000 posts for 5,000 views?

No, it's the 5 000th reply. You're probably thinking of the number of threads in this board, which is at 158; which would make the ratio of of replies to threads 32:1.

They said it couldn't be done, but I succesfully died in a dream today.

After several soul-stirring public bursts of rage, including storming out of a restaurant and vowing never to have dinner witht those people again, losing my temper and heaving a 25 lb plate towards some bitch at the gym, and nearly coming to blows with some guest at my aunt's baby shower, I took that and my sparse cash into account, finally decided I'd had it with life, posted a suicide note here, and leapt of a building into the river. Things went dark, and the next thing I knew I was facing judgment before God. After convincing him that I was part ofthe fold, I succesfully avoided going to hell, though I'm not sure it was heaven, because it seemed sorta like a camping trip. Later on, I learned that I could visit the realm of the living a few times, so long as I followed a few guidlines.

You know, that just made me realise that Nero Burning Rom is a reference to the Great Fire of Rome when Nero played his lyre while it burned... Of course, I know of nobody who plays the lyre while putting all their Queen mp3s onto disk.

And Nero was a brilliant man. Anyone who can successfully blame the Christians on something neither they or he did, and get them fed to the dogs in a winrar in my book. He's on par with Hitler.

Nero may have in fact been more of a baller than Caligula due to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domus_aurea

From an ESPN MLB season recap article:

Quote:

As free-agent marketing campaigns go, Barrett's walk year ranked right down there with, say, Armando Benitez's. Too bad. Barrett is one amiable fellow, and at least he's always swung the bat a little until this year. But from the moment Carlos Zambrano tried out his Johnny Nitro impression on him in the Cubs' dugout in May, this poor guy's season seemed to avalanche out of control.

He could've gone for Hogan, Austin, or even Cena, but Morrison? I never knew he had that kind of crossover appeal.

I don't think there's anything more demoralizing than resigning oneself to voyeurism . . .and then being thwatred at that! Proximity to success, as well as how arbitrary said thwarting was can have a varying impact on the sting of failure.

Seriously, instead of straightening me out, I'm starting to think college is only contributing to my descent into madness. I don't even feel much need to resist anymore at this point.
