Out of that list, Nas, Common, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are about the only ones I can tolerate listening to, with small doses of Tupac in between, very small doses. I'll admit I've lost a lot of interest in rap in the last year or so, but there's still several artists/groups I enjoy... Chino XL, Atmosphere, El-P, Sage Francis, Cannibal Ox, MF DOOM, Jedi Mind Tricks, Mr. Lif, Eyedea, Aesop Rock, Pharoahe Monch, and so on and so forth. |

True, but he still has a lot of potential and I felt his debut album solidified him up in the ranks. I do agree about On Fire, for I actually felt that was the best song on the whole album along with Playboy. I have to say I was disappointed with Rotten Apple, wasn't terrible by any means, but definently a step down from his debut album. But you say all this, yet he was on your list on who should "die". Of course, you could be tired and not thinking right when you made the list.
I do agree that his debut album was decent, if not mediocre. I can see your point with the whole connection with 50 cent, but that is how most unknowns get known. I thought So Seductive was good, and 50's appearance may have helped the album more.
I don't fault rappers for those decisions because i would probably do the same in their situation for money speaks a hell of a lot louder than words. Now, The Massacre was a huge disappointment, not because it was bad, for it was just ok, but it didn't follow up his huge debut album in which I should've expected to be disappointed for I had high expectations about The Massacre. I will definently take a look at Curtis when it comes out, for I think Straight To The Bank is a good song. Not great, but a good start. Still, even though he went the "Nelly" way, their is still no denying his talent and his ability, and thats why I don't think he belongs on a list like that.
I agree that he was at the right place at the right time, but I can't fault him for that luck. I would rank Buck The World ahead of The Massacre. I agree that Buck The World (song) wasn't great, as was the other single. But other songs made up and you can't just judge the singles, for the album as a whole was great. Push Em Back and 4 Kings and other songs made the album what it is, very good.
The Game definently brings something different, and that is a great thing. He is more consistent then the 4. His 2 albums both were great and I own both. They aren't as good as Get Rich or Die Tryin, not even close, but they kick the shit out of the Massacre. I feel that G-Unit would've achieved without The Game, because 50 was the main draw and whether The Game was their or not, their album would've sold.
Like I said, I can't speak for his albums, but from what I heard I like, so I don't hate him like you do.
Obvioulsy you misunderstand. From what I have read, I think you are a huge rap fan, and therefore shouldn't like Usher. That, of course, I am basing on how my friends hate Usher because they hate his style of music. Of course, that might not be the reason, but I never told you who you should or shouldn't like. Granted, I could've typed it better, but still I wasn't trying to tell you who you should or shouldn't like, so, don't accuse me.
Ah yes Boruicas post, "Marvin Gaye was an r&b singer. Anthony Hamilton is an r&b singer. Usher is a smooth voice and pretty face meant to sell eords to teens. Even amongst simlar artist, Futuresex/Lovesounds is way better than confessions" Yes Marvin Gaye was an R&B singer, but R&B has evolved, just like rap, from his time, so you really can't compare the two. His earlier albums were more R&B, but Confessions was him bringing R&B and sort of combining it with Pop and dance. I feel that Confessions was way better than Futuresex/Lovesounds. It almost works, but falls shorts. Their are some songs on their that are just plain horribile like Losing My Way. The lyrics are mediocre but you are distracted from that by all the sonic fireworks.
Just those as the exception? Come on. Master P, UGK, OutKast, Nappy Roots, Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, Three Six Mafia, and I can name plently more.
He does have faults, but still, he is a great rapper IMO. Not the best by any means, but he has done a hell of a lot for rap. And to say a statement that it was only sucessful due to the Family, is fucking bullshit. Sure, they helped, but he still made most of it and this album established himself as a vital rapper in his own right. And his album Press Play I felt was very good.
Hell, they do it to make money, and I would do the same thing. Those songs sell now, a hardcore rap album from the heart, won't get as much buys as an album with the new dance crazes on it. I feel they deserve it for they came up with it, and if they want to do that for money, then by god they deserve it.
I agree with you on this. Sure rap isn't as good as it used to be, but their are still many positives about it, and you just have to find what you like and listent to it. People do like Crank That, does that mean they are inferior and are retarded, no, it just means they have different tastes in music and variety is what makes this world great. |

So I just heard that 50 Cent recorded a track dissing Lil' Wayne. I'm in the process of reading some of the lyrics right now, but this shit just reeks of desparation (what with 50 dropping his next album on the 11th of September). I've got a feeling it's been released as a way to hype the project more than convey his thoughts on the man, seeing as how it really came out of nowhere, but we'll see. Either way, I can't wait for Weezy's response. In terms of a lyrical competition/war of words, Wayne is nearly untouchable; and I have the utmost confidence that he's gonna' rape the living shit out of Jackson when it's all said & done. LONG LIVE BEEF-INSPIRED RECORDS~! And whilst we're on the topic; what are some of your favorite diss songs? Mine are as follows: - "Hail Mary 2003" by Eminem, 50 Cent & Busta Rhymes (Diss to Ja Rule & Murder, Inc.) - "300 Bars & Runnin'" by The Game (Diss to 50 Cent & G-Unit) - "Ether" by Nas (Diss to Jay-Z) - "Hit Em Up" by 2Pac Shakur (Diss to The Notorious B.I.G. & Bad Boy Entertainment) - "King Of The Hill" by Ice Cube & Mack-10 (Diss to Cypress Hill) |

Word, Andy. It's probably the best diss track ever recorded, with "300 Bars & Runnin'" coming in at a close second. For anyone who's never heard either, I highly recommend you find some way to do so ASAP. And amen to that, Chubbsy. Nas > Jay-Z; in any & every capacity . . . |

No, it's Melbourne dude. Fuck, forgot you lived in Adelaide. Even better... As for diss songs, I'll take Fuck Wit Dre Day by...well, Dr Dre. He's dissing Easy-E, and surprised that he actually referred to him by name. |

I agree with you. I have always been a Lil Wyane fan from the start, and I am curious to see what his response is. Hit Em Up probably is #1 on my list. Another one I would add to your great list is "The Bridge Is Over" by BDP. Damn, that was good. Also Ice Cubes diss of the NWA in his song "No Vaseline". I also thought "Takeover" by Jay-Z is good, as was his radio freestyle "Super Ugly". But Ether just overshadows those by a lot. |

You forgot the "d" before evolved. The r&b of yesteryear was better than today'by a factor of roughly infiniti. Even if you don't want to include musicians from the glory days, Robin Thicke, Van Hunt, the aforementioned Hamilton and about a dozen others are all miles ahad of Usher in the quality of their music. As for Timberlake's latest release, it's nothing but mildly amusing, yet still manages to be much more creative and abitious than any of Usher's work. It had it's bombs for sure, but it's high points easily move it past such generic hit as "let it burn" and "confesions".
