Macho Man Randy Savage is a name known to everyone associated with Professional Wrestling. Not only was he a very talented worker, he was good on the mic and had some awesome ring attire. I was just wanting to get some discussion going regarding Randy. In addition I wanted to also get some opinions on the legendary Jushin Liger. More specifically some in depth discussion regarding the points below: • What are your thoughts and memories of Savage and Liger • How good of a worker do you perceive Randy to be/ Same in regards to Liger • What are your favourite matches involving Savage/ Favourite Liger matches • Was Randy a big draw in the 80's? and Was Liger a big draw in Japan Thanks PS - Does anyone know if Savage and Liger ever faced off? In addition anyone remember a match involving Savage and Dynamite. I briefly remember one. |

Savage and Dynamite met once, in the semi finals of The Wrestling Classic tournament in 1985. It went about ten minutes with Savage winning after reversing a floatover after a superplex. It's difficult to tell whether Savage was a draw, as he headlined during the rock and roll era (this being a huge accomplishment seeing as Hulkamania was still a highly infectious epidemic). He was, however, one of WWF's best ever workers and one of North America's best carriers, his best matches being vs Steamboat, Flair and Warrior (the latter being my favourite). I also found him extremely entertaining as face or heel. Unfortunately, throughout most of his WCW run, he sucked mightily. Liger is one of the five best wrestlers I've ever seen. You can pick holes in his work if you're particularly dickish but he's just too good to write him off as anything other than the best junior heavyweight wrestler of all time. New Japan perceived him as enough of a draw to base perhaps the greatest junior heavyweight division of all time around him (even jobbing out the legacy of his predecessor in that respect, the Tiger Mask, out to him repeatedly) and I have no doubt he connected especially with the younger fans. My favourite Liger matches are many, and if I had to choose one it would probably be the original Kyshin Liger match. To my knowledge, Savage and Liger have never had a match together. |

Being that I'm not a Puro addict, I don't know much about Liger. But as for Savage, if you want to see how great he was, please take his WWE work and look at it. This was when he was at his peak physically, and before he let Ted Turner's guarenteed deal go to his head so his work suffered royally. It may be cliched to death, but his Intercontinetal title bout with Steamboat is a huge example of his brilliance. That's my favorite Savage bout. Savage may truly be one of WWF's best workers of all time. |

It had slipped my mind Savage and Liger fought in Japan. The match is on my three disk Liger set but I cannot remember how good it was. Perhaps Teq may have a viewpoint on it as he currently has the dvd. Anyone any idea if the WWE and New Japan had any discussions around the 95-97 time frame in regards to a joint show. The mere thought of Liger/HBK headlining an IYH show is simply breathtaking. |

They wouldn't have. WCW's working agreement with New Japan was in full effect at the time, resulting in the Muta/Sting series of awesome. |

Awfully random names to be placing together, if you ask me. Regardless, both are quite excellent, with Liger being the best Jr. heavyweight of all-time and Savage the best WWF worker of the 1980s. |
