Hasbro Comments on G.I. Joe Movie
Source: Necomortis November 5, 2007

Hasbro has released to following message to fans regarding Paramount Pictures' live-action G.I. Joe adaptation, to be directed by Stephen Sommers and written by Stuart Beattie:

Hasbro's G.I. Joe Team wanted to take this opportunity to clarify some of the facts regarding the G.I. Joe live-action movie that we are developing with Paramount Pictures.

First and foremost, we are not changing what the G.I. Joe brand is about. The name "G.I. Joe" will always be synonymous with bravery and heroism.

The G.I. Joe brand has enjoyed a successful 43-year history, spanning two key generations. The first was the line of 12-inch "realistic military" figures that were popular with kids in the 1960s and 1970s.

The second generation, was created in 1982, and is based on a cast of fictional heroes and villains that make up the "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra" fantasy. The premise of this fantasy is the story of the G.I. Joe team, led by Duke, and their "fight for freedom wherever there is trouble" against the evil Cobra Commander and his Cobra force. This storyline was an instant hit with kids in the early 1980s, spawning a highly popular 3-3/4-inch action figure line, comic book collection and animated series.

This movie will be a modern telling of the "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra" storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the "Pit" as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established.

G.I. Joe is a very important property to Hasbro and we thank all of our fans for their enthusiasm. Without all of you, the brand would not be where it is today.

G.I. Joe is expected to hit theaters in 2009

COBRA!~ Yes i'm glad they went this route, good old 80's Joe, pure awesomeness!

With more and more rumours of the JLA movie happening, is anyone here excited for it?

While DC isn't my thing, it would be nice to see Batman and Superman in the one movie together...

I loved the Justice League cartoon. Thought it was done very well and the seeing the characters together was awesome. JLUnlimited was overkill and most of them were'nt needed.

As a fan of DC more than Marvel i'm obviously excited about this movie but at the same time I think it could be a HUGE mistake.

Why not build the DC charcaters in their own movies first?

They have great characters such as Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow and Aquaman that could all have their own movies and that could work. Then after that and the hypes died down, like Marvel has now, move on to make the JL movie.

The other thing that concerns me is the cast. I've read that they wanted that Basketball player to be Steel again. Shakile O'neil???

and even read they wanted Booker T and Chyna to play some characters.

I would have loved to see Bale as Batman and either Brandon Routh or Tom Welling as Superman. That on the same srceen would have been great. Apparently Bale is out for sure and Routh is out also I think. Welling as Superman would be cool though.

To cast at least 7 main DC characers will take a lot of money so I don't expect to see much, if any, big names in the movie whcih could make it flop.

7 should be the maximum.

Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, The Manhunter and Flash. Anymore would be overkill.

Add to that the bad guys and casting them. I would maybe have Lex Luthor or Joker, but I bet they just fight some fucking Aliens.

If it flops it would be a disaster to DC and I have a feeling it might.

Green Arrowas last i read will not be in the flick, but he is gonna get his own film, possibly the coolest ever, Supermax, where he's in prison with DC villians.

Wolverine Vs. T-Bag?
Date : November 19, 2007     Writer : Clint Morris

As good as Robert Knepper is on TVs “Prison Break”- a show that really needs a good kick in the ass these days – and he is good, has his star soared that much that he’s snagged, in the space of what.. a month, three huge studio roles?

I dunno. Maybe. I mean, he does have a plum role in “Hitman”. But I just don’t see a bidding war happening over him. Not yet, anyway. But bearing in mind that guys like Zac Efron and Hilary Duff are being offered lead role after lead role, with still no indication that they're in fact magnificent actors, these rumours are possible.

I’m referring to an article at The Denver Post which states that Knepper has snagged the villain role in the next 007 movie as well as been snapped up to play the main rogue in “Wolverine” opposite Hugh Jackman. The site also reports that Knepper will be joining Naomi Watts in that “Birds” redo.

Is it possible? Has T-Bag scored three mega roles?

Wouldn't be bad to see him in this flick.

Vaughn Wants to Shoot Thor in the UK
Source: He-Man November 19, 2007

Stardust director Matthew Vaughn told the Daily Mail that he wants to shoot comic book adaptation Thor at home in the UK.

"We have the A-list actors, designers, cinematographers and crew in Britain, so there's no need to make 'Thor' among all that madness in Los Angeles," he said.

The newspaper added that, because of the current writers strike in the US, Thor would not start filming until the end of next year

So a 2010 release, hmm, atleast Marvel denied the 300 million budget.

Sienna Miller Recruited for G.I. Joe
Source: Variety November 19, 2007

Sienna Miller is the first actor to enlist in Paramount Pictures' big-budget tentpole G.I. Joe, reports Variety.

The British actress will play the film's female lead, described as a raven-haired baroness and sexy femme fatale skilled in espionage.

Stephen Sommers directs the live-action film based on the Hasbro toys, comic book and TV series.

Paramount, which has set a mid-February start date, has slotted the film for an August 7, 2009, release.

The story is set at Brussels-based GIJOE, an acronym for the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, and revolves around an international co-ed force of operatives who use high-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil org headed by a Scottish arms dealer.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers) is producing alongside Hasbro's Brian Goldner.

Nice! Baroness should be kick ass.

More reasons to watch the Watchmen
Date : November 20, 2007     Writer : Clint Morris

A few weeks back we exclusively reported that Zach Snyder has got the thumbs up from Warner Bros to film the “Tales of the Black Freighter” for his upcoming “Watchmen” DVD.

Today, CHUD has more details on how the spin-off special might be worked into the flickeroo.

“According to my source, there's talk of doing the pirate story in animation*, and releasing it on DVD at the same time that Watchmen is in theaters”, says the site.

For more "Watchmen" juice, click here.

I'd rahter have it as a special feature but still not bad.

Justice League of America Cast Revealed?
AICN and IESB spill a few beans.
by Jeff Giles | November 19, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
The cast of George Miller's Justice League of America is expected to be announced next week -- but why wait for official news when you can have the rumors right now?

IGN Movies reports that both Ain't It Cool News and IESB have confirmed the involvement of Adam Brody, Common, Teresa Palmer, and Scott Porter, all of whom were previously rumored to be up for roles in JLA. From the article:

Brody is said to be playing Wally West, a.k.a. The Flash, opposite Common as John Stewart, the Green Lantern.

IESB says that, contrary to earlier reports, Palmer is not going to play Wonder Woman but rather one of the film's villains, Talia Al Ghul. Talia is the daughter of Ra's Al Ghul, portrayed by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins.

AICN claims Porter might be playing Superman, but IESB counters by saying, "our sources are telling us that he was up for the role of The Flash against Adam Brody and obviously Brody won out, we've heard nothing about him being cast as Superman."

IGN also notes that AICN is reporting that Michael Gough -- the actor who portrayed Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred, in the Batman films directed by Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher -- might be reprising his role for JLA. Ah, there's that nod to tradition that fans have been clamoring for.

Eh, nice to toss him a bone but aint he kinda old.

Jackman didn't get 007, but he still gets a 'Q'
Date : November 22, 2007    Writer : Clint Morris

“Live Free or Die Hard” villainess Maggie Q is the frontrunner to play ‘The Silver Fox’ in FOX’s “Wolverine”, says IESB.net.

The film would reunite Q with Hugh Jackman who she co-starred with in the upcoming “The List”.

Apparently the character – yes, it’s me, guy-whose-never-read-a-comic here again – was one of Wolvie’s lovers, and a clandestine constituent of a covert ops team employed by the CIA. In the comics, the Silver Fox was killed by the rogue, Sabretooth.

I can see it, flick sounds promising thus far.

Who Does Taymor Want for the Spider-Man Musical?
Source: Silvermoth November 21, 2007

Julie Taymor (Broadway's "The Lion King"), who is directing the upcoming "Spider-Man" musical, tells the Daily Mail that she is eyeing Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood for the two leads:

First off, she wants handsome British actor Jim Sturgess to play the spandexed superhero and his alter-ego Peter Parker, with Hollywood beauty Evan Rachel Wood to play his main love interest Mary Jane Watson.

"There, I've said it. Now I have to go through a web to get them," Ms Taymor told me at a Lincoln Centre gala where she and others, including director Stephen Frears, were honoured for their work with the Rolex-funded mentor arts programme.

She added: "Jim's certainly interested, but his film career has taken off, so I have to nab him between movies. Same with Evan. They'd be my ideal pairing, though, if they're free."

More on the production at the link above!

About time time they had a CGI monster in Smalville. As opposed to say Zod possessing Lex or Braniac staying in his "Spike" human form.

Re-read Year One recently. It's okay. Fun, and probably as realistic as Batman could be. I sort of wish they'd gone down this route with the films, perhaps with David Simon writing.

Year One is the Batman story that Miller should get all his hype for, not DKR.

Man Who Laughs is good. Brubaker was underrated, as far as Batman writers go.

Oh, and if you haven't already, read Alan Moore's the Killing Joke. Short, maybe 20 minute read, but it's the definitive Joker story. Brian Bolland's artwork is amazing - I wish he would do more Batman stuff. Moore's attention to detail is just sickening.

Just finishing reading JOKER by Brian Azzarello and though it was fantastic

I read it n about an hour, if that.

I'll re-read it tonight

*SPOILERS*

To me it was like a day in the life of The Joker

He gets released from Arkham by somehow convincing the Doctors that he is no long crazy. A young man named Jonny Jonny Frost picks him up and basically becomes Joker's right hand man. Joker tries to reclaim his part of the city with the help of his gang, Killer Croc and Penguin. He starts of normal enough, even partying at one point and picking up Harley again. Steadily Joker kills more and more trying to put the fear back into the citizens and mobsters of Gotham, and trying to draw out The Batman. Jonny Frost is The Joker when he was normal to me, he is a small time Gangster trying to please his boss, but steadily becoming insane. He respects Joker but really fears him and so does everybody else. Frost Kills, becomes cocky and even begins to laugh with The Joker throughout the comic eventually he realizes that Joker is a monster and he is not an idol for criminals.

The comic shows how much everybody really fears The Joker and none of them really want him to be released from Arkham because Gotham was at peace without him. They use Two-Face as the main mobster with power but really show his fear of The Joker to the point where he has to ask Batman to take Joker down.

Good quick read and another good story of The Joker trying to explain his reason and motivation which, not surprisingly, it doesn't.
