Lou Ferrigno returns for Hulk
Date : September 17, 2007     Posted By : Clint Morris

Lou Ferrigno, the original big green canister of muscle, will cameo in the new “Hulk” movie says Variety via Superhero Hype.

Now can you imagine if he hadn’t? The filmmakers - though word is good, and the cast they’ve got is even better – would have been burnt at the stake. They’ve
still have their work cut out for them convincing the world that another “Hulk” movie is just what their stomach’s growling for, especially after the last one failed to give even a 13-year-old comic book fan an erection, to deter the man we know best as the live-action Hulk would be like someone remaking John Carpenter’s “Halloween” and snubbing the events of the half-a-dozen sequels that followed it – disrespectful.

No word on who the big guy’s playing…. But chances are it’ll just be a security guard – like he did in the first “Hulk” film - or someone of similar screen size….

Meantime, Superhero Hype has a few set pics from the, ah, set, up.

Eh, it's cool that he's being given a part.

De Palma, Cronenberg Seeking God-like 'Preacher'
Posted: September 17, 2007 @ 2:18pm | Source: CHUD | Comments (1)
If the rumor of Robert Rodriguez shooting the pilot episode of HBO's Preacher series wasn't enough, the good folks at CHUD report that both David Cronenberg and Brian De Palma are in the running to helm! Preacher is my all-time favorite comic book and any of these three legendary directors would leave me speechless. Click the link for the story. "Preacher," which ran from 1995-2000, told the story of a down-and-out Texas preacher possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity conceived by the unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon. Given immense powers, the preacher teamed with an old girlfriend and a hard-drinking Irish vampire and set out on a journey across America to find God -- who apparently had abandoned his duties in heaven -- and hold him accountable for his negligence.

Wow, great directors all around for said project.

Neil Gaiman Talks Sandman, Good Omens Adaptations
No money, mo' problems.
by Jeff Giles | October 05, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
The box office receipts for the Matthew Vaughn-directed adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Stardust might have been a source of disappointment for Paramount, but Gaiman remains undaunted; in fact, he's got a (tongue in cheek) investment opportunity for fans of his work.

Gaiman spoke with Empire at the British premiere for Stardust this week, and was naturally asked about the likelihood of bringing his much-loved Sandman series to the big screen. His response, from the article:

"I would always give anything to Terry Gilliam, forever, so if Terry Gilliam ever wants to do Sandman then as far as I'm concerned Terry Gilliam should do Sandman...but Terry's busy trying to get Good Omens made that Terry Pratchett and I wrote. He needs someone to give him $70 million. If you or any of your readers have a spare 70 million dollars you are not doing anything with, then send it to T Gilliam, care of the London Pipe Organisation."

Gaiman was clearly only half-serious, but given Gilliam's historic difficulties when it comes to securing studio financing (if you haven't yet seen Lost in La Mancha, which chronicles the director's heartbreakingly star-crossed efforts to complete his Don Quixote adaptation, you're missing out), the idea has at least hypothetical merit. The micro-investment strategy has worked (albeit on a much smaller scale) for musicians such as Marillion, who have bankrolled entire projects with fan funding.

Yeah, probably not gonna happen here. But the synopsis for Good Omens -- the 1996 Gaiman/Pratchett novel that Empire describes as "dark, philosophical and barkingly funny" -- reads like vintage Gilliam. From the article:

Angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley have got rather fond of Earth and are thusly annoyed to discover that the Antichrist is going to show up and bring it to an end. Their ensuing partnership is one of the finest ever committed to print, besides which it's ridiculously funny and cleverly plotted.

Sounds like it could be great. Now all we need is for two million Gilliam and/or Gaiman fans to write $35 checks. Spread the word.

Gilliam for Sandman! Great fucking shit!

Justice League of America Plot Confirmed!
Also: Jeff Robinov seeking Wonder Man?
by Jeff Giles | October 09, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
We still don't know who will be starring in it, but the storyline for George Miller's Justice League of America movie has been revealed.

A recent issue of Entertainment Weekly contains an article about the production, including a plot summary, obtained from "an early version of the script," that breaks down as follows:

Seven original members of the Justice League -- Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter -- are featured in an origins story about the superhero conglomerate. The plot revolves around villainous businessman Maxwell Lord and involves cyborgs called OMACs (One-Man Army Corps), who can take over humans and turn them into killing machines. There are epic battle scenes between Superman and Batman, as well as Superman and Wonder Woman, and League could spawn a slew of additional franchises if it's successful.

The production is apparently still on track for a February 2008 start and a summer 2009 release.

In related news, IGN Movies has obtained confirmation from Jessica Biel's reps that she is really, honestly, seriously no longer in negotiations to play Wonder Woman in JLA -- which isn't really news, per se, but it sort of dovetails with the hubbub surrounding a recent decree rumored to be made by Warner Bros. president of production Jeff Robinov. Read on:

We are no longer doing movies with women in the lead.

Robinov's reasoning for this, apparently, is that The Invasion and The Brave One didn't perform well at the box office, and they had female leads, ergo female-led films are box office poison. It's innovative thinking like this that earns Robinov the big bucks, folks.

Anyway, one of the sticking points in the Biel negotiations was supposedly a guarantee, or lack thereof, that she'd star in a Wonder Woman spinoff. Now, as Comics2Film points out, Robinov's comments would seem to indicate that Warners has given up on the project entirely -- or, at the very least, that women need not apply for the starring role.

Really sounds like a cartoon as opposed to a film.

Image Comics' Last Christmas Optioned
Source: Variety October 9, 2007

Hollywood Gang Prods has optioned rights to graphic novel The Last Christmas from Image Comics, according to Variety.

Written by Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan, the novel revolves around Santa Claus, who turns his back on Christmas and goes into seclusion after nuclear war has destroyed the world. When the North Pole gets attacked, Santa must battle zombies and renegades to save the remaining survivors, and ultimately, the holiday.

Hollywood Gang partner Craig J. Flores will executive produce the project. The company's Gianni Nunnari was a producer on Warner Bros.' 300.

In addition to "Christmas," Hollywood Gang is also developing the graphic novels Ocean, by Warren Ellis, and Frank Miller's Ronin, as well as a remake of 1978 movie The Wild Geese, based on Daniel Carney's unpublished novel "The Thin White Line," with Rupert Sanders attached to direct.

FUCK YES!~ IF you like EL SuperBeasto you'd love this, fun read, goes real fast aswell.

Vaughn on Thor Script & Budget
Source: The Guardian October 9, 2007

The Guardian has posted a piece written by director Matthew Vaughn (Stardust, Layer Cake), in which he talks about the Thor script and budget. Here are several clips:

Afterwards, we drove home, where I greeted screenwriter Mark Protosevich as a guest.

In truth, I did not treat him very well as I forced him to work for the whole weekend - he is the writer on Thor, my next film, which I am directing with Marvel. The weekend was a success - we finished the script and celebrated with an '88 Palmer, and I was feeling good and ready to tackle the necessary evil of film promotion.

My phone has just rung. Marvel loves the script. The only problem is that it has been costed at $300m and they ask how I am going to reduce it by $150m. I think I prefer being asked what it's like working with De Niro.

Visit the link above for more words from Vaughn

IDC who you are, 300million is way too much for a film to cost, i laugh when some near 300 million dollar flicks flop, servesd em right. Just look at the profi of shoting cheaper pictures. I get that blockbusters should cost moe but 300 million? Way way too much. Oh well that's why my film will all be low budget.

Brandon Routh is Dylan Dog
Source: Comic Book Resources October 9, 2007

Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) will play the lead role in Dead of Night, which is based on SAF Comics' best-selling horror comic book series "Dylan Dog," created by Tiziano Sclavi and first published in Italy by Sergio Bonelli Editore.

The movie will be directed by David R. Ellis, who started his career as a stuntman and in recent years has directed such movies as Final Destination 2, Cellular and Snakes on a Plane. The screenplay was written by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly.

The "Dylan Dog" movie, which is being produced by Arclight Films in Los Angeles, has a budget of $35 million. Principal photography is planned to start soon on locations in Connecticut.

Dylan Dog's graphic representation was inspired by English actor Rupert Everett. Dylan Dog is a penniless nightmare investigator who defies the whole preceding horror tradition with a vein of surrealism and an anti-bourgeois rhetoric. The true monsters in many of these stories are human beings.

Sounds interesting, not a fan of Roth or Ellis(though i dug SOAP).

First Licensing Launched for New Spidey Series
Source: Advanced Dark October 9, 2007

The latest adaptation of Marvel's ever-popular Spider-Man is already casting a web over the licensing industry as Spider-Man Merchandising L.P. - the limited partnership between Sony Pictures Consumer Products Inc. and Marvel Entertainment, Inc. - unveiled today a blue chip list of partners who will serve as the foundation for the merchandising program supporting the all-new "Spectacular Spider-Man" animated series. The highly-anticipated series will debut in early 2008 as part of the Kids' WB! line-up on The CW Network, the No. 1 rated Saturday morning kids broadcast slate.

Spider-Man Merchandising, L.P. has already attracted some of the biggest names in key categories - ranging from toys and apparel to domestics and publishing - to develop product lines inspired by "The Spectacular Spider-Man". Leading the way are such industry heavyweights as: Hasbro (master toy licensee), Wear Me Apparel (master apparel), IMT (sporting goods), Fashion Accessory Bazaar (back-to-school and storage), Bendon Publishing (publishing), DecoPac (cake decoration), Giant Merchandising (t-shirts), Berkshire Fashion (headwear, cold weather and hosiery), Fast Forward (back-to-school), and Jay Franco (domestics). Spider-Man Merchandising, L.P. is continuing to work on expanding the program with additional licensees.

"The Spectacular Spider-Man" picks up the original web-slinger's mythology at the beginning of his hero's journey as a not-so-typical 16-year-old entering his junior year of high school. Peter Parker must conceal his secret identity, confront the multi-leveled pressures of teenage life at home and school, and all the while combat even bigger Super Villains than ever before. Based on Marvel Entertainment's popular Super Hero, "The Spectacular Spider-Man" is produced by Culver Entertainment, a Sony Pictures Television Company.

"The early feedback on 'The Spectacular Spider-Man' has been phenomenal with licensees quick to embrace the series," said Paul Gitter, President of Consumer Products for North America, Marvel Entertainment for Spider-Man Merchandising L.P. "Our goal is to create a merchandising program and entertainment event that aims to fuel the on-going demand for the Spider-Man franchise."

Marvel and Sony Pictures Television recently announced that they have green-lit Culver Entertainment to commence production on an additional 13 half-hour episodes for the series - bringing the current series run to 26 episodes. A major marketing effort by Kids WB!, Sony Pictures Television and Marvel designed to maximize consumer awareness of the series and drive tune-in is already underway

I love supehero cartoons ,atleast good ones, haven't had those since the 90's, so i'm hoping fo a good series.

Learn Who Eric Bana Plays In STAR TREK XI!!

I am – HULKules!!

If nerd get sex tonight, it because Eric Bana in “Star Trek”!!

Bana (“Hulk,” “Munich”) play villainous "Nero"!!!

Nero menace Kirk, Spock, Chekhov, Uhura and (Hulk hope!!) Janice Rand in J.J. Abrams' “Star Trek” movie, due Christmas 2008!!

Principal photography begin next month!!

Hulk not need spaceship!! Hulk jump to planet that make Hulk angry!! Hulk punch puny planet into less desirable orbit!!

Read more on matter here at startrek.com!!

Hey folks, Harry here... StarTrek.com is telling us that ERIC BANA has been cast as the villain NERO in JJ's Star Trek. Now - we don't know much more than that. At one point it was rumored that Russell Crowe was in talks to play the villain - but alas - that's not happening. I like Russell, but I like Eric Bana just as much. Now here's the real question. Who or what is NERO? Now remember - this is supposed to be a relaunch of Classic Trek: The Younger Years - but if it is in that universe... they could find that it is actually the Nero that fiddled while Rome burned - due to an alien ship that came and abducted him. After which Emperor Nero was admitted into the Q league and - well... I don't even want to joke about that any further. Cuz - I really hope this isn't in the tradition of THAT version of Classic Trek. And even if it is... how amazing would it be to take the idea of those most absurd metaphoric episodes and produce them amazingly well? I can't fathom that.

Anyway... Eric Bana's the bad guy. I just can't wait to see who Kirk is. Maybe it'll be Brad Pitt - so we can have a rematch between Hector and Achilles. Who knows...

I know it's not Comic Book but i don't wanna look for the ST thread.

Cassevettes in Talks for Captain America?
Source: Shannon October 22, 2007

CHUD has posted an interesting article about how veteran actress Gena Rowlands mentioned that her son, Nick Cassevettes, is thinking about directing Captain America for Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures. Cassevettes (The Notebook) was previously attached to helm Iron Man before Jon Favreau took over.

We'll have to wait and see how this plays out...

Good choice

David Dobkin Takes on The Flash
Source: MTV October 28, 2007

MTV learned on Saturday at the junket for director David Dobkin's Fred Claus that Warner Bros. has signed the helmer for The Flash. Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) and David Goyer ("Blade" films) were previously attached to direct.

Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) says his adaptation won't be the character's first appearance in theaters, with the Flash a major part of George Miller's Justice League movie. Dobkin confirmed that his movie will be set in the same universe as Justice League as a direct spin-off.

He added that the Flash they will use is "Wally West."

Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert, The Flash has the ability to run and move extremely fast, use superhuman reflexes and violate certain laws of physics, like time travel.

Wally West? Fuck it i want Barry Allen as for the director, fuck me silly, what an embarassment.

And Green Lantern Gets a Director, Too!
Source: Variety October 28, 2007

While no casting on George Miller's Justice League movie has been confirmed, names seemingly are pouring in for the projected spin-off movies starring the various members of DC Comics' greatest superteam.

According to Variety, the latest name to be thrown into the ring to direct a Green Lantern movie for Warner Bros. is Greg Berlanti, a television writer and executive producer who is responsible for shows like "Dirty Sexy Money," "Brothers & Sisters," "Everwood," "Jack and Bobby," and "Dawson's Creek."

Berlanti, who directed the 2000 feature The Broken Hearts Club, will co-write the script with "Brothers & Sisters" co-writer Marc Guggenheim, who has a good amount of comic book writing experience, and Michael Green, the co-executive-producer of NBC's hit show "Heroes."

Hal Jordan! FUCK YEAH! As far as this director goes, eh could have worse, from what i remember wasn't Dawson into comics? So perhaps the director is in the know!

When I read comic books on a frequent basis, I appreciated Marvel for it's humor and DC for it's creators. By the time I stopped reading frequently, I was burnt out on most of Marvel's characters, and it appeared as though my favorite creators were leaving their books on DC.

I still read She-Hulk, Birds of Prey, Detective Comics, and assorted TPBs.

Batman joins the military?
Date : October 30, 2007    Writer : Clint Morris

According to IESB, recent "White Jazz" departee George Clooney might be in talks to don the camouflage for the forthcoming "G.I Joe".

Initially, Mark Wahlberg was said to be the studio's first choice for the lead role of 'Duke'. (I'd actually like to know what happened between Wahlberg and Clooney - they were apparently good pals there for a while, having met on the set of "Three Kings" and then re-teaming for "The Perfect Storm". I believe Wahlberg was even slated to play Linus in "Ocean's Eleven", only to be replaced by Matt Damon).

Says the site, "Rumor is that one of the reasons he walked away from Joe Carnahan’s White Jazz was not only due to scheduling conflicts but also because he is looking for a blockbuster to star in. The word in the Hollywood grapevine is Clooney has been offered a role in GI Joe and it’s the character of Duke."

I know so much about "G.I Joe" that I actually thought the lead character's name was.... G.I Joe. My membership to toy library has just been revoked.

James Vanderbilt Writing Spider-Man 4
Source: Entertainment Weekly October 30, 2007

Entertainment Weekly reports that Sony Pictures has hired James Vanderbilt to write the script for Spider-Man 4.

Vanderbilt most recently penned David Fincher's Zodiac, polished up the X-Men Origins: Wolverine script, and has written The Rundown, Basic and Darkness Falls.

While he won't be able to write anything during the expected Writers Guild strike (which may start as early as Nov. 1), the magazine says the fourth Spidey film is scheduled for a 2009 release.

Zodiac was great, let's hope we get a good director.
