"Vesti La Giubba" - Luciano Pavorotti I actually prefer Placido Domingo's version, but couldn't find it. Still awesome, and I just love the climax. |

"Roc Boys" Jay Z This is probably the most I've liked a Jay Z single in the last five years, probably more. |

LCD Soundsystem - "North American Scum" Just picked up their new CD after I went to see them in concert (which was, by the way, fucking incredible) and this song is pretty awesome. The live version is so much better, though. "I'm north american scum..." |

I hope LCD comes close to Cinci at some point. Couldn't go to Chicago to catch a show, but Sound of Silver is an exceptional album. Read all the pamphlets and watch the tapes. |

Sound of Silver was fantastic. I got to see them a week and a half ago with Arcade Fire and Blonde Redhead and it was by far the greatest show I've ever been to. |

Silversun Pickups - "Lazy Eye" This is the perfect song to fit my mood, as of right now. It may very well go down in history as one of my most favorite songs of all-time, and I think it would be a perfect funeral song . . . |

Time won't let me go - The Bravery http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5ZxQ8tnAG8 Great song. I love the lyrics and they are very meaningful. Sam Endicott's voice is so calming. It is about all the "good times" that people reminisce about never happened to him. He wishes he could go back and relive everything to try to make it better and notice the good stuff. Plus, I love the reference to "Summer of 69" and Cherry Valance |

I Can't Get Next to You The Temptations While it's not certainly not my favorite song of theirs and I may prefer Al Green's version, it's still pretty great. It's amazing that there are people out there that do not properly appreciate The Temptations. Anytime a band can make a song about unrequited love fun it's usually a good thing. I've re-established an obsession with Motown and it looks like Smokey Robinson and The Miracles will be coming on next. |

Paid in Full - Eric B & Rakim. This is everything that rap should be. While the actual rap is short, but sweet, everything else just works perfectly... |

Can't Speak - Danzig http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9QNxZHfw3I I love it, just the way its so simplistically laid out but it digs deep. It portrays that not happy, but not sad emotion that we always have. |

"Astral Traveling" by Pharoah Sanders Remember the days when some people actually tried to establish moods and ambiences through music, instead of everyone merely pandering to some lamo subculture? Well, neither do I, but pieces like this help me experience what used to be. Jazz used to be so brilliant. |

Man, you people stop listening to music or something? Anyway: "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" by Isaac Hayes This is one of the most creative re-interpretation of a song I've ever heard. Hayes takes a song of normal length made famous by country singer Glen Campbell, and creates an 18 minute suite, with a spoken intro over a steady beat and organ, delivering the backstory to the song. He then delivers a characteristically soulful r&b cover of the song, and finishes with a horn-filled crescendo. Listen to the original song, and what Hayes was able to build it into, and you'll see why he was so influential. |

Lupe Fiasco - "Superstar" (w/ Matthew Santos) This is a great song about the pressures of stardom, as performed by the man that I have already christened "the next Nas". The mood created by the beat of the song is goosebump inducing, the lyrics flow together nicely, and he doesn't even has to cuss to get his point across. He's like Will Smith, only more talented when it comes to the music business. Anyone that is a fan of rap, Lupe, or both, should definitely give this song a listen . . . |
