Family Guy. I still love it, but I'm getting kinda fucking tired of Seth MacFarlane mocking me.

Say whaa? Like Donnie said. Explanation please.

Anyway, just finished off watching Blade Runner (Final Cut). Aside from it being pretty fucking good, would it be worth watching another version of the film? (I bought that box set with four or five different versions of the film).

Note: excuse the typos, my keyboard's kinda on the fitz. I'll try to fix the ones I spot.

Recently, it was after watching the epiode where all the New Yorkers come in to watch the leaves, and they're all portrayed as a bunch of apes. As a former Bronx resident, I'd normally consider it just a good natured rivalry, in a different context . . .

In general I feel the show's been getting a bit too political, but I just dismissed it as the views of the characters in the show, until reading that Brian, often the voice of reason, is done by Macfarlane (a Connecticut native) in his normal voice, and based on him in many ways. So, that adds another dimension to when he says "America's changed, except the south", characterizes SUV owners as selfish and malicious while parading around in his fruity hybrid, and presents an alternate reality where Al Gore was president as a utopia. As a longtime resident of the south, with family roots there, the child of SUV owners, and amateur political pundit who called Gore out for being a demagogue, I can't help but interpret this as an unwarranted personal attack.

Not just him, but I'm generally tired of all these limp-wristed media types on the coasts making blanket generalizations and taking low blows at the rest of America. There are a lot of shitty places and people in the south, 'tis true. There are loads of great places and people as well. It's just like anywhere. Though I suppose it can't measure up to the northeast, where Bill Russell protested his own retirement ceremony because the people of Boston were so harsh to him as a black man, or where the city's black population openly cheered for the Lakers because the white majority had alienated them so badly, or where there are hundreds of Irish and Italian neighborhoods were being non-white is somehow equivalent to asking for a fight, or people generally treat eachother like shit. Nope, nowhere in the south can ever be as good.

What I love about South Park is that the shots actually do go both ways, and they generally aren't as heavy handed. Nowadays, it just seems like he's asking us to congratulate him on his views and lifestyle and give him a cookie or something.

I think it's more along the lines that he is using the show as a vehicle to express his personal views and opinions, but you shouldn't take it so seriously. Not to say that you're overreacting, or anything, but everyone has preconceived notions, and ill-informed dispositions regarding at least one concept/idea they don't fully understand, or care to learn about. The jabs at New York and the South, I feel, are just harmless cultural stereotypes that aren't, as you said, entirely untrue. At the same time, however, as you already said, they aren't entirely truthful; and I think that's the point behind including them. The manner in which he presents those bits are too over the top to take literally . . .

And although MacFarlane does voice Brian in a way that may seem as though they share the same views and opinions on certain issues, I don't know if that is entirely true, or if it's more down to him perfecting, and becoming the character that feels the way he does because it distinguishes him from the rest of the pack.

Oh; and I'm watching "Saturday Night Live in the '90's" . . .

Point taken. Though it would be easier to swallow if much of the media and many people I know didn't actually think that way, and never get called on their bias.

Just finished watching 300, I was a bit disappointed. I wasn't expecting too much of a plot, but certainly a bit more than what I got.

It probably would have been my favourite film ever had this come out when I was 8.

Have to agree there. Not the best film in the world, but not the worst either.

Though visually, it's really fucking impressive...

300 is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen the Ernest movies.

Anyway, I just watched Planet Terror. The more I watch it the more I realise it’s probably the greatest movie ever made. It’s more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
