Where the Wild Things Are This is so much better than I was expecting. It's also pretty depressing. Edited by Mutant Couch, Sep 14 2010, 05:21 AM.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Doing a paper on it for class. I'd forgotten how brilliant it and German expressionist film is in general. All Burton fans should be forced to watch this one. Edited by Mutant Couch, Sep 28 2010, 04:22 AM.

Currently working my way through Godard. Band of Outsiders is fantastic as if My Life to Live, but really Week End is easily my favorite thus far. The tracking shot during the traffic jam scene is absolutely genius.

Transmorphers: Fall of Man Not nearly as hilarious are one would think. Mostly it's just awful in an unpleasant way. Edited by Mutant Couch, Nov 22 2010, 04:02 AM.

Thank God. I was getting tired of people telling me that I was unable to see the nuanced brilliance of that movie. |

Plus points: - Some of the location shooting - Rhys Ifans and Evanna Lynch - Helena Bonham Carter - The Thatcher stand-in character played by Imelda Staunton being magically smashed in the face at last - O'Children by Nick Cave Minus points: - That it's essentially the bits of the Lord of the Rings films that nobody likes, with Frodo and Sam arguing over how the Ring is turning them into My Chemical Romance fans, extended over a period of two and a half hours. - The generally washed-out aesthetic, which, in tandem with the first minus point, means it's the most angst-ridden, depressing film I've ever seen, and as such makes Satantango look like a Laurel and Hardy short. - The characters suddenly remembering they can teleport and shapeshift into other people, which presumably would have come in real fucking handy in the other films. - It leading you to believe it will focus on Snape within the first ten minutes, only to completely sack him off. Also to establish Moody is the new Dumbledore, leader of the resistance, only to kill him off, off camera, a minute later. - Months of emotional turmoil represented by characters forgetting how to shave and wash their hair. See Ifans, Jason Isaacs. - The sexual tension between Voldemort and all of his assistants. Especially Isaacs. There's a scene right at the beginning where the 'Mort is practically sniffing Isaacs' hair, and Isaacs looks like he's about to shit a brick. - John Hurt reprising his role in the last Indiana Jones film. I remember when this man was a respected actor. - Voldemort's cunning plan: Getting his pet snake to dress up like an old woman and hide out somewhere Harry probably won't visit, just in case he does. With plans like that, motherfucker doesn't deserve to rule the world. (- On that point, and this is far more general: what exactly is Voldemort's plan? I get that he's trying to ethnically cleanse normal people and half casts, but is he just trying to take over England? Europe? The world? What is the extent of his ambition? Presumably with power like that you could start colonisng other planets as well. Does he actually have any policies, or is he just another Blair clone politician, full of rhetoric but short on substance?) - The horcrux's amazing defensive mechanism: do everything you can to piss off the person who wants to destroy you, even to the point of showing them pornographic films of their mates, until they can't take any more and destroy you. - Harry Potter forgetting to take off his glasses when porking Hermione in said porn. - I mean really, I know you have to keep the slashfic fans happy, but that was like that John Byrne story where Superman and Barda are blackmailed into seedy blue movies. - Dobby the House Elf randomly appearing as a deus ex machina (with a bit of lampshade-hanging: "How can you teleport in here?" "I'm an elf."), only to be killed off. Suddenly, Harry, who ignored Dobby while he was alive, throws cinema's biggest hissy fit since Bruno Gantz in Downfall, making our hero look like a hypocritical emotional slopbag X Factor viewer. They dig a hole in the sand and chuck him in because Harry for some reason bans them from using magic. Presumably Dobby always hated magic or something, despite being, you know, magical. - Voldemort is suddenly a necrophile. Not sure if this is a plus point actually. |

Actually, you know what, you'd be amazed what a fucking bullet in the head wouldn't solve. Harry should just petition the British government to send the SAS into Azkaban or wherever the cunt is hiding. |

Did they bother explaining why Voldemort looks like Abe Sapien? Or why they have an entire family of Ginger wizards that cannot be bothered to properly hide that fact? How Tasty Was My Little Frenchman, really the cannibals would be more frightening without the ass feathers. |
