Stori wasn't really sure why, but the library had always been considered a sacred place. The items within it were revered as artifacts, and complete silence was upheld within it. Stori was smart and liked to read, but had never been a big fan of libraries. It wasn't that they creeped her out or anything, it was simply that she could think of so many other, better things to do than sit in a stuffy library. Even if it was reading, wouldn't it be so much more enjoyable in a comfy bed, or outside in the sunshine? Stori thought so. That plus, a library had so many damn rules. Be quiet. No going in the restricted section without a note from the professor. Sign over your soul before taking a book out of the library. To Stori, books were about freedom, about escaping into another world. Libraries just took the fun out of it, made it professional and restricted. That was why she avoided the library whenever possible. Granted, she had been inside the library at Patronus Academy, but that was mostly because she wanted to see what it looked like. She was sad to say that it wasn't nearly as impressive as the one at Hogwarts (which she had been in once or twice, admittedly, though she couldn't really remember why). She supposed it was because all the books were still left at Hogwarts, and Patronus Academy merely had what they had managed to scrape up from donations from personal libraries. But impressive or not, it was still a library, and Stori still didn't like it.

That's why she decided to sneak in there at night and get high.

There was something thrilling about the idea, first of all. Stori was a rebel at heart, and the very idea of doing something unsavory in a place considered so sacred made her grin. She had thought of it some time ago, more as a "what if?" sort of thing more than an actual plan. She had merely been going over in her mind a list of all the places she had and hadn't gotten high at Patronus Academy. She hadn't gotten high in the bathroom, but that was kind of a groady place to get high anyway. She hadn't out on the Quidditch Pitch, which seemed like a potential idea once the weather got warm again. And then there was the Library. The more and more Stori thought about it, the cooler an idea it seemed. She even went to the library for once, to scope out what could possibly be a cool spot to do it. All without actual intent of carrying the plan out, until the day that she thought, what if she did more than just smoke some bud or Hyacinth in there? Because that was becoming more and more acceptable these days anyway. But what if she did a drug that was a little more serious? For Stori had concocted all sorts of mind-altering substances, though with many of them she did little more than just give it a try, to see if it held the desired effects. But what if she got high in the Library on something dangerous, something powerful, something possibly addictive?

That was why Stori was in the Library now, her "bag of wonders" - as she called it - at her side. If one listened carefully, they could hear the faint clinking of bottles and vials from within. She prowled through the aisles of books, holding her lit wand before her. It was the only source of light within the Library, and it cast odd shadows about. Despite the labyrinthine layout of the Library, Stori seemed to know where she was going. She made turns with certainty, and that was because she knew where she was going. There was the most romantic little nook between the Magical Creatures and Medical sections, and that was where Stori was going to do it. It was the dead of night, no one was around, and she was well out of sight in the middle of a large library. There was no chance that she was going to get caught. Not that she cared what anyone thought or anything - it was just that she didn't want to have to deal with any bullcrap punishment that some Professor or Prefect would feel was "necessary" to dish out. They probably wouldn't even care if she was handling mind-altering substances, but Merlin forbid if she was out after hours. Stori hunkered down on the floor in her little nook, rummaging through her bag of wonders. Her hands moved and passed over phials of all shapes and sizes, glimmering with all sorts of powders and crystals and potions. Finally, she found the one she wanted, one that was filled with a brilliant gold liquid that looked almost like Felix Felicis. Stori uncorked the bottle with a soft pop, took in a breath of the sweet-smelling liquid, and let a lazy smile cross her face. It was time.

As each day passed, Evelyn became more and more convinced that she was slowly starting to go mad. Her nightmares and flashbacks were getting worse. A loud noise made her jump. A rough voice shot unpleasant shivers down her spine. Her nightmares were plagued with Jack Harrison or Mr. Parker. She often dreamt of the Fletchers giving her back- that was one of her biggest fears. She'd toss and turn in her bed before waking up in a cold sweat, shaking from head to toe. She usually got up and went to the Common Room to read or study. Anything to get her mind off the things she tried so desperately not to think about. But they always managed to creep back into her subconscious. Tonight, Evelyn had a horrible nightmare of watching Billy and Tim get beat by their father. In her nightmare, she was tied to a chair and wasn't able to help them. The brunette had woken up right before he advanced on her. She'd rolled out of bed, splashed cold water on her face, grabbed her wand and was out the Common Room in a flash. She just needed a walk. She needed to clear her head.

It was pretty quiet in the corridors. Evelyn was surprised she hadn't come across Carlin or somebody else. She knew Carlin liked to be out after curfew. Sighing, she ran a hand through her soft curls. She didn't know what was going on with Carlin anymore. But had she really ever known? She was so tired of everything that was going on. Evelyn knew that their relationship wouldn't last. She didn't know for much longer they'd be 'together', but she was going to cherish every moment. You know you should end it before you get hurt. You're not strong enough to handle more pain. Physical pain or emotional pain. There was no way Evelyn was strong enough to handle more pain. The young girl sighed and stopped in front of the library. Hmm. There's no one in there right now. I can hide from the Prefects and be alone for a while.

Evelyn slipped inside the silent library and pulled out her wand "Lumos," she whispered. The tip of her wand lit up and she moved slowly through the shelves. She scanned the titles of the books as she passed. Nothing really appealed to her. They were all textbooks. She hated to read out of her textbooks. As Evelyn strolled down the Magical Creatures section, she froze. There was a girl, maybe about a year or so older, nestled in the nook. She had something in her hands. A vile? What the hell? Evelyn walked up to her, wand illuminating her face. She had dark hair and grey-blue eyes. She recognized the girl. She was in her house, but Evelyn never bothered to speak with her. The vile she was clutching had a gold liquid in it. Startled, Evelyn lowered her wand to show she wasn't a threat. A sweet-smelling scent hit her nostrils. "What the fuck are you doing?" she asked incredulously.
