Potions had always come easy to Leonis. It had always been something he had just understood. From magical properties of certain types of blood and plants, to the way that things mixed together. When he had arrived at Hogwarts his first year, he found that he was not as skilled as those around him in things like Transfiguration and Charms, but he could brew circles around them. His professor, Professor Hallow, had seen the potential in his right away, and since he was in his house, the man soon became something of a mentor to Leo. He picked him for Advanced Potion Lessons, held every Wednesday after classes. Though he was often incredibly sarcastic and subtly rebellious in class, Leonis respected Hallow almost as much as he did his own father. He was a brilliant Potions Master, and a good professor. Not that Leo would ever admit that. Slinging his bookbag over his shoulder, Leonis sauntered down the corridors, making his way to the Potion professor's office and classroom. Christmas was approaching, and already he could feel the chill settling into the school. If you could call Patronus Academy a school. Breathing a heavy sigh, he thought of Aimee doing her Prefect rounds, that he might surprise her with a little broomcloset action if he got out of his lesson early. Since they had come to the new school, Hallow had been going kind of easy on him, acting distant. It was only fair, really - Leo's parents had been a part of the group that had taken down Hogwarts - but it was aggrivating. Hallow had been giving him easy assignments, not even challenging him. He had spent all summer brewing potions, and selling them of course, so he wouldn't be rusty whenever his lessons resumed. Potions made sense to Leonis. When everything else turned upsidedown, that never changed.

With Aimee fresh in his mind, he entered the Potions classroom as if he owned the place, waltzing through the desks and marching towards the closed office door. Three sharp taps. "Professor?" he asked through the heavy wooden door. "I'm here for our lesson-" he began to say, when the door opened abruptly. But it wasn't Rowan Hallow's harsh face that he saw when the door swung backwards, but the Flying Professor, Eleanor Potter. If there was one professor who could get Leonis to shut up, it was her. Mostly because she was incredibly hot not only for a mother, but for a professor. Not to mention she had a glare that made him want to crawl into a hole. But he was still incredibly confused when he saw her - until his eyes took in her appearance. She looked like... well, she looked like she had just had just been shagged senseless. "Unless this is a bad time." That probably wasn't the best thing to say. But it was Leonis. "Mister Carrow," she said, and Leo just stared. "Don't be silly. I was just leaving." And then with one look back at Professor Hallow, his Flying professor was gone. What the fuck? Leonis's mind was temporarily blown, and he was unsure how to proceed. With one stunned look at Hallow, he stood there. All he could think was how the hell did an old man like him get a woman like Professor Potter? Probably the same way you got Aimee, a voice in his head said, but Leo just stood there, staring like an idiot.

rap rap rap. Oh damn. His eyes opened, and he looked around as if he had just woken up from a deep slumber. In reality, he had just been participating in a very heavy professor-to-professor conversation that was done with things that were not words. His eyes passed over Eleanor who was under him, both of them hearing the voice from the other side of the door. "Professor?" Carrow. What day was it? Blasted! It was Wednesday. It was the day that he gave all of his private lessons, and his first one was with Leonis Carrow, as it had been for the past four years. Unfortunately, Eleanor Potter had a way with making the man forget about everything. While it was pleasant to forget about the depressing things such as Hogwarts, the state of the Ministry, and everything else in general, it was not good to be forgetting that he had lessons to teach. More than just that, it was not good that the two were still embraced, their bodies pressed closely against each other, while the student he was meant to be teaching was knocking on his door. It was in that instant that he moved faster than he thought possible. His shirt was on, his pants were on, and his hand was wrapped around his cane within seconds. Eleanor was even faster. She looked almost as if nothing had happened, save for a few things here and there. The two shared a look before she reached for the door. Rowan went about waving his wand around, restoring all of his possessions to his desk, and sitting down.

Eleanor opened the door just as Leonis was saying something about his lessons. The look on his face was comical to say the least, but Rowan couldn't laugh. Wouldn't laugh. In fact, he found it not funny in the least. It was not very professional, their relationship, and Rowan was a very professional person. While he didn't care what everyone else thought about him, he did have a reputation to protect, a reputation that helped him teach his classes efficiently. So, he stood there with a stern expression, all the while listening in to the small conversation between Eleanor and Leonis. She looked back at him one more time before leaving, and Rowan didn't let the smile he wanted to show appear. Instead, his eyes moved to Leonis who looked as if he had just found out something truly astounding. This wasn't good, but Rowan would fix it. Somehow. "Mister Carrow. To your cauldron." It was short and curt, the usual for all of his students. He waited for the boy to walk to his desk before Rowan stood up and walked out himself. His cane hit the ground, messing up the rhythm of his footsteps. His leg was getting better, though, so he arrived to the other side of the desk quickly enough. Staring down at the cauldron without meeting Leonis's eyes, he asked, "What potion did you brew in class yesterday?" It was an easy enough question, but when followed by, "Tell me how that potion can be used in three different ways, and how it's possible to make that same potion using completely different ingredients," it turned into a very difficult problem. Rowan knew that, and hoped to Merlin it would push the thoughts on the boy's mind far, far away. Hopefully, they would never resurface again.

What the hell. Leonis didn't know how he felt about his professors hooking up. Even though Professor Potter was the Flying Professor, she used to be an Auror and everyone knew that she was a part of the Order. Or they assumed at least - Leonis assumed that all of the Professors were. So she was young - ish, hot, and a talented witch. What was she doing with an old man like Professor Hallow? Whatever. It wasn't Leo's business. And really, the idea of anyone getting it on with his Potions Master kind of freaked him out. "Mister Carrow. To your cauldron." "Yes sir," he replied in a low tone. That's right, pretend everything was normal. Good idea. "What potion did you brew in class yesterday?" he asked, to which Leo replied easily, "Drought of Living Death." He remembered it clearly because no one else's had been as perfectly clear as his own had been. He even remembered Isis' disastrous attempt. Breathing a sigh, it wasn't a moment until the professor added, "Tell me how that potion can be used in three different ways, and how it's possible to make that same potion using completely different ingredients." Well, hell. "Er," Leo said, unsure for a moment. "Well it could be used on your enemies, if you don't want to actually poison them. It could also work if you wish to appear dead to others, or if you wish someone else to appear dead for a short while. And it could be used.. ah, hell. I don't have a third one." Uh oh. He could feel the glare already.

"But, instead of asphodel, one could theoretically use the roots of an iris. Nepeta flowers could be used in place of valerian roots because of similar properties, though I'm not sure if catnip would be a good replacement... And instead of sopohorous beans, an acceptable replacement is... er. Hydroxia leaves? They'd have to be finely minced, of course..." After a moment, Leonis crossed his arms. "Are you going to let me try to brew Veritaserum today, sir?" he asked. The professor had been telling him that the potion was 'too advanced' and wouldn't let him near any of the books with instructions on how to make it. But he was a sixth year now, and his skills were far beyond that of most adults. Surely he could handle it. Couldn't he?

It could also work if you wish to appear dead to others, or if you wish someone else to appear dead for a short while. And it could be used.. ah, hell. I don't have a third one." There were a few students at the school that could have answered as proficiently at Leonis Carrow, but none of them would be able to put the knowledge to great use like the Raven. True, he didn't know another way the Draught of Living Death could be used, but it was not common knowledge. Rowan himself only found out after being an apprentice to Brauer for a few years. Nodding his head curtly to show that he approved of the boy's answer, he rested both of his hands on the top of his cane. "In very extreme cases, the Draught of Living Death is used by healers and medi-witches on patients in critical conditions. Only the most severe are put under, as the dangers of using it for this reason are apparent." As he began to talk, his voice lost the sharp edge to it and, if Leonis were to listen intently enough, he would notice the small amount of joy that crept into the Potions Master's voice.

"But, instead of asphodel, one could theoretically use the roots of an iris. All correct answers. A small smile appeared on Rowan's lips. He was not above showing emotions to those who earned them, and Leonis was one of those people. Still, Rowan did not show much. There was no need to say anything as the boy knew he was right and instead, Leonis crossed his arms and began to talk once more. "Are you going to let me try to brew Veritaserum today, sir?" That damn potion the boy had been wanting to work on for years. Before, he was not skilled enough. Talented, certainly, but he did not have the right amount of knowledge to correctly brew it. Now, there was no reason that he couldn't try it. Rowan stared down at the boy, looking deeply into his eyes before walking away to his desk. "That will be next week, mister Carrow," Rowan said as he reached his desk. Grabbing a small vial, he looked it over before turning back around and beginning the walk back to Leonis's desk.

"First, I want to see how you do on an equally difficult potion." Holding up the vial so that Leonis could see its contents, he let a small twinkle shine in his eye. Rowan really was a smart man. "Do you know what potion this ingredient is used in?"

"In very extreme cases, the Draught of Living Death is used by healers and medi-witches on patients in critical conditions. Only the most severe are put under, as the dangers of using it for this reason are apparent." Leonis's face revealed his shock. "Really?" he asked, genuinely interested. "Like when?" Leonis questioned his master impatiently. He hadn't missed the small amount of joy in his professor's voice, nor the pride in his pupil. Everything that Leo had learned, he had learned from Professor Hallow - and some really awesome books. He listed off various ingredients that he knew would never work, but theoretically were similar to those in Drought of Living Death. The grin on his professor's face was well worth the effort, and Leonis felt proud about his potions knowledge. When asked if he could brew Veritaserum, however, he was denied. "That will be next week, mister Carrow," Professor Hallow said, and Leonis grinned. Yes! One week away. He would be counting days. "Yesss," he hissed to himself, a smirk appearing on his face. He wondered if he would be allowed to keep any of it... But the old man had something else for him this week. He held up a vial of something that he didn't recognize at first, but when he looked again, he started to figure it out.

"Do you know what potion this ingredient is used in?" he asked, and Leonis's brows knitted. "That's... aconite. AMore commonly known as wolfsbane." Why did Professor Hallow want him to brew that potion? Sure it was kind of hard, but no where near as challenging as Veritaserum. Then, however, he remembered. Professor Ellwood, the Magical Beasts and Beings professor was a werewolf. And from what he saw, Professor Potter and the werewolf were close... Leonis's face twisted from confusion to conclusion. "You want me to do your dirty work?" Leo asked. Maybe he was being a bit presumptuous. But he was pretty sure that Hallow and Potter were dating. Or, shagging at least. "I'm pretty sure that Professor Potter wouldn't like the idea of a student making Professor Ellwood's Wolfsbane Potion... but if you're sure I can do it," Leonis said, a smirk forming across his face. Oh. He would probably get smacked for that one, but he began searching for the ingredients anyway. "Ah, the things people do for love," he joked, avoiding Hallow's gaze as he snickered.

"That's... aconite. More commonly known as wolfsbane." This kid was good. Rowan expected nothing less than his top pupil. There were others at the school that were talented, and some had better discipline then Leonis, but the boy's raw talent was hard to beat. It was a hard thing to swallow, but Rowan knew that Leonis reminded him of himself when he was younger. They were certainly different, as Rowan had never dabbled in Quidditch, the girls circuit, or the act of cocky talking, but their confidence in themselves were astonishingly similar. It was one reason why Rowan wanted to help the boy out. He had not once told him to renounce his ways, but he couldn't count all the times that he had pushed him in that direction indirectly. Subjects about justice and camaraderie filled their evenings together, mixed in with heated conversations about flobberworms and doxy wings. Moments like this, Rowan knew he was trying his best for good reason. This boy had talent, and it did not need to be wasted on something like The Mistress and her brainless cult. Unfortunately, they weren't too brainless. They were smart in their own right, and dangerous. With someone like Leonis on their side brewing potions... he didn't want to think about that.

"You want me to do your dirty work?" And here was one of those moments that Rowan wished the boy wasn't clever. Really, it wouldn't take much for anyone to figure out what the wolfsbane was for, but it could have easily been just as an assignment. Alas, it was for someone in particular, and Leonis knew who. Glaring at the boy, he could feel the satisfaction coming from him. "I'm pretty sure that Professor Potter wouldn't like the idea of a student making Professor Ellwood's Wolfsbane Potion... but if you're sure I can do it." Just the way he said Eleanor's name told him that he hadn't forgotten about the compromising situation only a minute ago. Rowan's glare turned into a death glare. The smirk on Leonis's face wasn't helping matters. "I thought you could before now, but at the sudden inflation of your head, I'm not sure if you can do anything but float away with a young couple hopping on for a ride." His words were snarky and sharp, classic Rowan style. The boy was already gathering up ingredients, though, and Rowan began to feel relieved. He wouldn't tell Eleanor about this, not if he wanted a chance at the Veritaserum. "Ah, the things people do for love." Rowan was already on his way back to his desk, but this stopped him cold. Turning around, he walked around Leonis's desk, his cane striking the ground every other step, and stopped beside him. Then, bringing up his free hand, he slapped the back of the Raven's head quickly.

Satisfied, Rowan smiled slightly. "Love is a very powerful tool, Leonis. It changes people. Makes them better people. You may do things you never wanted to do before, but in the end, you'll be glad you did them." Leonis was used to Rowan spouting off bits of knowledge and advice to him, but never was it this personal or awkward. "Now, make the damn potion before I decide to make you brew a pepper-up potion."
