It was a rare day that you could find Hunter in the library. Very rare, in fact. Normally he was blowing off schoolwork, instead deciding to do something more fun. Fun was the best thing for him; he couldn't really see how people managed to do so much homework and studying and crap. It was all crap, it really was - unless, of course, it had to do with actually using magic. Then it suddenly became useful to Hunter, and he was interested.
And that was why Hunter was in the library. He had been assigned to read a chapter from a textbook, and this one he knew had some spells in it. He would practice those later, but for now he had to read. He diligently scanned the pages, making sure to take in every word so as to not miss something that could be important. But that was also working against him, because among the useful information there was three times as much boring, mind-numbing material thrown in there.
Hunter could feel his interest fading. He started slowly tapping his right foot. That's what he always did when he was bored, and it was the first sign that he needed something to do. He began to look up from the book, now scanning the room. It was quiet. Of course, that didn't stop him from whistling. What he was whistling, he neither knew nor cared, but it saved him from that textbook. He could read the rest later, although next time he'd be skimming it rather than involving himself in it.
Now he became really involved in his whistling. He got the feeling that people might be annoying - eh, their problem, not his. Well, Hunter supposed it really was his problem. After all, they came to the library for a quiet place to do whatever it was they were doing, and he was breaking that silence by whistling. But hell, he decided to continue; nobody was telling him to stop. Yet.

Why was Evelyn having such a hard time focusing on this darn chapter? Her mind had been over all place lately. She'd been thinking about her workload. She had been thinking about her foster siblings, the ones she missed deeply. She had been thinking about a certain someone with long, dark hair and dark eyes. She sighed and let her head hall to the table with a small thud. Would she get kicked out for sleeping in the library?
The table smelt heavily of ink. Like someone had poured a whole bottle of ink on the table and just scrubbed it into the table. It wouldn't surprise her for someone to do that. Some students were very into displaying artwork on things that shouldn't have any to begin with. Walls. Tables. Doors and chairs. To her, it was immature. To those select few, it was simply a way of expressing themselves. Hmph. Morons.
Evelyn was just drifting off to sleep when she heard it. Tap, tap, tap. She frowned and pursed her lips. Is someone tapping? Ugh, I hate that! Soon, the tapping turned into someone whistling. Loudly. And it didn't seem like the person had any intention of stopping. Her head snapped up and she searched for the source of the sound. A second later, her dark eyes fell on a boy, from the Badger house. He had dark eyes and light brown hair. She narrowed her eyes. "Do. You. Mind?!" she snapped, flipping her jet-black curls over a shoulder and crossing her arms. The nerve of some people.

:ooc: Get ready for a crap post... :ooc:
"Do. You. Mind?!"
This snapped Hunter out of his trance-like state filled with tapping and whistling. He turned around to face the girl who was visibly irritated, about to apologize. He knew he should have stopped. He deserved to be snapped at; it was a matter of common sense that he should have left.
Then he stopped just before he began the apology, his mouth slightly open, about to utter the first syllable. For whatever reason, Hunter felt like he recognized this girl. He knew her. No, that was idiotic; he had never seen her in his entire life until now. But still, there was something about her...what an odd coincidence. "I'm sorry," he began. "Do I know you? You look strangely familiar." He stared, unable to make out who this person was. Perhaps he did know her, and for whatever reason he was blanking out on her name. That could happen to anyone. Still, he had no recollection of seeing her; at least, not recently. This was too weird...

:ooc: It was fine :oooc:
Evelyn sighed in relief as the boy finally stopped tapping and whistling. He looked confused. Did he not realize how incredibly annoying that was? Plus, who did that in a library? Libraries were supposed to be peaceful and quiet. A place to study and catch up on work. So what gave this kid the idea to tap his foot and whistle? She ran a hand through her hair, slightly irritated. Some people lacked common sense. It was sad, really.
She was about to open her mouth when he spoke, asking if he knew her. I seem familiar to him? She shrugged. She hadn't seen him before. Or had she? Maybe they'd seen each other during meals or walking to a class. She peered closer at him. Hm. The boy did look familiar. Very familiar. "Oddly enough, you look familiar to me as well," she said, relaxing a little. He seemed all right. For a guy. Might as well go sit next to him if they were going to have a conversation. She got up, almost tripping over a leg on the chair next to hers, and stumbled her way to his table. She plopped down and smiled kindly at him. "Sorry I snapped at you. I'm tired." Was he mad?

Hunter was still staring at the girl. In the least-weirdest possible, of course. He was trying to make out who she was and why he knew her, but nothing came. He then came to the conclusion that he passed her in the halls all the time while on his way to classes, and he had never really noticed her before. That sounded reasonable. The girl then replied that Hunter seemed familiar to her as well. That only confirmed his thoughts - they both must have seen each other frequently and never noticed. Well, Hunter would try and be much more observant from now on, because he wanted to spot her in the halls.
Then she got up from her seat and made her way to the one next to him. She apologized for snapping at him, but Hunter just replied with, "Don't worry; it was my fault, anyway. Just one question though...did you like the song?" He wasn't sure of the reply he'd get for that, but hopefully it was something positive. If he was going to annoy everyone, then it'd might as well be with something that sounded good.

"Don't worry; it was my fault, anyway. Just one question though...did you like the song?" The boy asked. Evelyn raised an eyebrow, but then, she smiled. This kid was pretty nice. She wondered why they hadn't run into each other before. "It was very nice," she said with a chuckle. "You should be famous for it," she joked. Now that she was this close to him, she could see that the boy did look oddly familiar. She felt like she actually knew him, and that he wasn't just a face in the hall. But it would be weird if she mentioned that, wouldn't it? Instead, she walked back to her table, retrieved her things, and sat back down next to him. "So, these two muffins were baking together in an oven. One said,'Man, it's hot in here!' and the other one said,'Holy shit, a talking muffin!" She smiled at her lame joke.
"Oh!" she cried, as if she had suddenly remembered the answer to a very important question on a exam. "My name is Evelyn, by the way. Evelyn Grace Fletcher." She stifled a yawn and turned away to cough. How rude would it have been to cough in his face? Not to mention gross. She didn't want to mess up her possibly new friendship. "And you are?"

The girl apparently liked his song. At least, that's what she said; Hunter didn't necessarily believe her. He laughed, causing some very annoyed heads to turn in his direction. "You lie," he said as she went to get her things from her original seat. Then she sat down next to him again, and told him a joke - one he had heard many times before and still didn't think was funny. He smiled and rolled his eyes. shaking his head.
"Oh!" This caught Hunter's attention, as it seeming came out of nowhere. What was wrong? My name is Evelyn, by the way. Evelyn Grace Fletcher." Ah. She's introducing herself. Hunter thought for a moment that something was wrong; perhaps that he had caused her to be late for a class or something. He smiled of relief as she turned to cough, and extended his hand to introduce himself. "I'm Hunter. Hunter Thomas."

Evelyn felt like the oxygen in the room had suddenly been cut off. What. Did. He. Just. Say? Hunter Thomas? She felt dizzy. The room started to spin. Noises that were once loud started to fade. The brightly lit library grew dark, swallowing her. No. No. Could it possibly be? Was he really her brother? Her hands started to shake and she started to breath rapidly. Loudly. Calm down, she ordered herself. There are plenty of people with the name Hunter. And the last name Thomas. Evelyn had been so little at the time, but she remembered exactly what happened.
Five-year-old Evelyn bounded down the stairs of her home in excitement. She was going on a trip with her family today! She had a backpack full of clothes, and even some of her toys, Oh, how fun it would be! The sun was shining and the grass was green. Outside, someone was burning wood. But it smelt good. To her. She ran up to her mom, a slender, tall woman with long black hair and dark eyes
"Mommy, I'm ready to go on the trip! it's gonna be so much fun!" Evelyn had cried, hugging her mom tightly around a leg. Just then, her father and two younger siblings appeared. Her dad's eyes were red and puffy, like he had been crying recently.
"Daddy, what's wrong?" little Evelyn asked, dark eyes widening in fear. What had happened? But her father put on a tight smile and told her he just hadn't gotten enough sleep last night. Which wasn't a lie. Evelyn didn't think much of it. Instead, she turned to Hunter and Olivia. "You guys, we're gonna have fun!" the bubbly child couldn't contain her excitement.
Evelyn's mother let out a choked sob and was immediately comforted by her husband. They exchanged a look They didn't speak of it, but each knew what the other was thinking: we're giving up our daughter today. Our eldest daughter. But they had to pull it together. They couldn't let their children know what was wrong. So they took five-year-old Evelyn and the two four-year-olds, Hunter and Olivia, and apparated away.
A second later, they appeared in front of a large, homy-looking building. A foster care center. With a heavy heart, they took little Evelyn up to front steps, where a large woman was waiting. Evelyn was confused. What was going on? The woman on the steps had a somber expression on her face. She gently took the little girl's hand as her parents cried and cried. In the background, little Olivia and Hunter exchanged a glance. Then her mother crouched down in front of her and explained that she and her father loved her very much, but she was going to stay with with the nice lady. Evelyn didn't understand. Her dark eyes filled with tears.
"W-what about sissy and brother?" she had asked in a tiny voice. Her father then told her that Hunter and Olivia were staying with them. So he took his three children in a warm, loving embrace. And pulled away. Evelyn looked at her two siblings. They weren't staying? She hugged them and cried, which set the two of them off. Evelyn watched as they had to be physically dragged away. She tried to go after them, but the strange woman had grabbed her arm. In an instant, her family was gone.
A cough from someone in the room brought the fifteen-year-old back to reality. From that moment, her entire world changed. By the time she was seven, she hated her mom. Her dad. But she didn't hate Olivia and Hunter. Her parents never visited. Never wrote her a letter. Never sent her anything. After a while, Evelyn gave up hope. And she became the cold, unstable girl most people knew today. She sniffed and wiped at her eyes, not surprised to find tears. Everyone must think she was crazy to start crying in the middle of the library. But she had to know. She turned to Hunter and locked eyes with him. His hair was lighter than hers. But their eyes were the same color. She drew in a shaky breath. If this was actually her brother, was Olivia here as well? Had they been right under her nose this whole time? "H-Hunter," she started, voice breaking. "D-do you have a-any siblings?" She shut her eyes as she waited for an answer. She couldn't bear to look at him any longer.

Hunter watched as Evelyn froze. She didn't take his hand; instead, she was frozen there, as if someone had come and stuck her in a block of ice. He stared with concern as she apparently became lost in her own thoughts. "Er...Evelyn?" But she still sat there, as if he hadn't said anything at all. Now, Hunter wasn't a psychiatrist, but he knew something was wrong.
Was it something he said? He ran over the conversation in his mind as she did whatever she was doing. He annoyed her, then joked, then introduced himself. It seemed pretty normal to him. She froze when he introduced himself, though...what could he have done there? I'm Hunter. Hunter Thomas. There was nothing wrong with that as far as he knew. He said it again in his mind. I'm Hunter. Hunter Thomas. Nothing.
Hunter focused on the girl again, who snapped out of her trance after someone in the room coughed. At this point he was severely concerned - she was crying. She was tearing and sniffling and wiping her eyes, all because he introduced himself. It left Hunter dumbfounded. He simply could not comprehend what was going on.
Then Evelyn spoke. "H-Hunter." She was stuttering. She was stuttering and her tone had completely changed. Now he just believed she was crazy. He was crazy too, but that was different. She was completely batshit insane. And that was all there was too it.
"D-do you have a-any siblings?" Then Evelyn shut her eyes. This was getting too bizarre for Hunter. "Um...yes. I have one sister, Olivia." He paused for a moment, trying to imagine what was going through this girl's head. He couldn't think of any explanation at all for what was going on, other than her being messed up somehow. "Why?"

""Um...yes. I have one sister, Olivia." One sister? Olivia? Holy shit. It's him. It's really, really him. He doesn't remember me. Evelyn didn't know if she should cry or laugh. She had waited ten years to see her brother. Ten freakin' years. And now he was. Sitting right in front of her, oblivious. Olivia. Was she here as well? The very thought of seeing Olivia made her stomach flop. What was she like? Did she hate grape jelly on her toast like Evelyn did? Did Hunter like bacon as much as she did? Her hands started to shake again. She couldn't believe it. She was dreaming. She had to be dreaming. There was no way that the boy in front of her was her biological brother. She inhaled slowly. Deep down in her heart, she knew it was him. She had finally found her brother.
"Why?" Hunter's simple question caused Evelyn to burst into tears. She ignored the stares she received and without thinking, launched herself out the chair and threw her arms around his neck. "Hunter," she sobbed, soaking the kid's shirt with her hot tears,"Hunter, it's me. It's Evelyn. Your other sister. I-I can't believe it. After ten years, I found you. Oh my God, Hunter. How are you? What's been going on? Olivia. Is she here as well?" She assumed she was. She knew she was probably confusing Hunter, but she kist couldn't help it. She continued to cry. She didn't care if people were staring. Or what they thought. They didn't know what this felt like. None of them knew how much she had suffered. How long she had waited. She released him and wiped furiously at her eyes. "I-I-I just can't believe it, Hunter." Wait until Arianna and Hanna heard about this.
