Why did people come here, again? Oh, that's right. To study. Kaleb rolled his eyes exaggeratedly with a heavy sigh as he sauntered his way to the dreadful place. He needed to study, right? Well, not really - he was doing perfectly fine in most of his classes, despite his lackadaisical study habits. History of Magic was giving him a bit of trouble, but he attributed that to how horribly boring it was. Besides, drawing unnecessary facial hair on the old wizards they studied in class was much more productive than listening to the lessons. Granted, the fact that he barely had to pay attention in his other classes probably wasn't helping. Kaleb was clever and had enough natural intelligence to manage classes without wasting too much of his time studying. Life wasn't about reading books - it was about going out and doing things. After all, experience was life's greatest teacher. At least that's how Kaleb viewed it.
He found his way there and pushed into the library, sliding easily into a nearby table. The book flipped open and his eyes scanned a few words. But it didn't take long for his mind to wander. These wizards he read about - these great magical beings that earned their right to be considered worth studying now - were from years ago. Kaleb's mind froze, the typical light-hearted grin on his face slipping slightly. Who would be remembered from their time? His thoughts traced back to last year - the attack and how many people had been lost. Olivia. His mother. Unwanted emotions welled in his chest as his vision flashed briefly to his remaining family members. He shook the thoughts away and closed his book bitterly. He had only been there for a short amount of time, but he had already had enough. Kaleb refused to think about anything from that fateful day. Everything was fine. He was fine and that was that. The Badger shoved his book back into his bag with a sigh and shoved his chair away from the table, eyes widening in surprise when he felt it come into contact with something. A quiet sound and he realized it wasn't a something. It was a someone. He glanced back over his shoulder, a sheepish grin on his face. "Hey, are you alright?" he asked. His tone was light, almost teasing but held no malice. "Sorry about that."

Buttoning up that third button Carlin made her way away from the row of shelves in a steady pace. There was no need for that extra button open anymore...she thought as she straightened her blouse and looked down to make sure her skirt was neat. She was never shabby...never un-groomed. Her unexpected rendezvous in quite, rivate corners were alway saccounted for. Pulling out her wand from her side she swirled it around her head for a final touch; making sure there wasn't even a strand of hair out of place. Her hair fell beautifully down her shoulders. Her day had gone perfectly. She had gotten to Evelyn just as she had been planning...fullfilled her bodies desires; those that had filled her and confused her ever since the night she had been kissed by that girl. It had been a breeze and that almost surprised her. When she had been walking around planning and scheming she had been so unsure about how to go about it and completely confused on how to balance out her lust and anger. But at the moment she began flirting and teasing the girl it all seemed to fall right into place. She barely had to put much effort into it...and it made it a whole lot easier that the girl already seemed to be getting off her in her own head. It was so tempting to just take her down right then and there...but she couldn't just satisfy the girl like that. She was in it for her benefit...and not anything else. The girl considered her a 'friend', lover?...Na; she had called her a friend...well then, that's what she can think she was. To Carlin; that girl was her bitch...her little minion with benefits. The thought made her insides growl. She loved it.
As she slipped over to the right to circle around and take a shorter cut to the entrance. This was her first visit to the library at Patronus Academy and she really wasn't too acquainted with it. It didn't matter anyway...it wasn't like she ever was going to need to come here. She had Evelyn now...she could do all the work she didn't like. She could please her by pleasing herself at the same time...and have her do anything for her. A smirk crossed her face as she thought about it but soon to be washed away by a look of irritation when a chair banged into her side. Groaning "Ufff..." she was about to raise her voice when her eyes met with a bright, young face with a sheepish grin on his face. Ohh...a cute, little boy. Now this wasn't someone she wasn't to snap at...he was a boy after all; an adorable one. Narrowing her eyes with a small grin lifting her lips she rubbed her bony hips. "Everyone just seems to love bumping into me these days..." her eyes scanning the boys happy face. She remembered him from around Hogwarts but nothing particular...Kaleb; just another boy who really had nothing that caught her attention. "I'll live." she laughed softly and moved towards the side. "Leaving? I'd really like to get out of this place...too quiet for my liking." she asked clearly inviting him along. Her fingers wrapped over the top of a nearby chair as she stood leaning forward.

Kaleb glanced over his shoulder, a small smile on his face. He certainly hadn't meant to run into the girl walking behind him. "Ufff..." The groan was enough to warn him that whoever he had slid his chair into probably wouldn't be happy. The grin was on his face, tone light - he wasn't one to take things too seriously, especially if it could prevent someone from getting upset. His eyes were bright, a non-threatening expression on his face. The girl was someone he recognized. Carlin...Hayes? He didn't know her personally, but the girl had quite the reputation amongst the boys in school. Perhaps that was why he had never had any personal interaction with her; he wasn't the one to snog just anybody - hell, he'd never kissed anyone. He watched her carefully, a look of sympathy crossing his face when she rubbed her hip. "Everyone just seems to love bumping into me these days..." Kaleb chuckled quietly with a roll of his eyes. "Don't take it personally - I'm sure everyone is just as careless as me." His smile never wavered. "Sorry again."
Carlin laughed quietly, sliding towards the table. "I'll live." Kaleb's grin tugged crookedly to one side. "Well, that's good. I'd hate to think I cause any long-term damage." The older girl leaned over a nearby chair. "Leaving?" He quirked an eyebrow at her question as thought encouraging her to continue. "I'd really like to get out of this place...too quiet for my liking." Kaleb nodded, smile widening just a bit before he stood up, slinging his bag over his shoulder casually. "I was, actually," he admitted. "Studying's not really my thing anyway." He moved away from the table, glancing over his shoulder good-aturedly. "You coming?" He wasn't sure where he was going - it wasn't in his style to have a particular destination in mind. His feet carried him out of the library and through the corridors, wondering if Carlin would follow him. It didn't matter that much to him. He wouldn't deny the company but he wasn't starving for it either. Everything was just fine with him. And even if it wasn't, he would just tell himself it was until he believed it. Because lying to himself was better than making everyone else miserable with his troubles.

Smiling at the boy as he stood up and slung his bag over his shoulder she watched him walk towards the entrance of the library asking if she wanted to join him. Of course, she did. He probably wasn't one that she usually would spend some time with...but a lot seemed to have changed after the attack. Maybe this boy had too...maybe he was up for dome coddling...or maybe he would have a few interesting incites about the goings on about this really quite castle. Whatever it was...feeling completely rejuvenated by her morning action...she was ready to try it out. Grinning she walked up behind the boy looking over her shoulder to make sure she didn't bump into Evelyn on her way out...the girl didn't need to see her walking out with some boy. Her reputation wasn't squeaking clean that she wouldn't suspect anything because he was younger than her. Quickly joining him she slid to his side and turned her head to look at him. She did like how tall he was despite his age...he was a good two inches taller than her. Eyeing his body she figured it could shape up a whole lot better once he's all grown up. Smiling to herself she let her eyes wander over his messy hair and along the sides of his face. A conversation starter she tried to find as they walked on...it was hard. The two of them seemed like complete opposites of each other. The ever consistent smile on his face and those gleaming eyes such a contrast with Carlin blank features. Even her smile didn't reach her eyes...it was just...a smile. There was no warmth in it or any kind of joy. As their walk continued in silence for a bit Carlin realized why she had stayed away from the boy her years at Hogwarts. He really wasn't any fun for Carlin...or maybe...
Turning around and walking backwards facing the boy she cocked her head and suggested "I suddenly feel an urge to fly...how does that sound?" her lips curling in a smile as she spoke. yes, it was pretty darn cold outside and her legs would probably be no good with that tiny skirt she was wearing...but no, she could handle it. And more than ever...she could imagine a few things she could lure the young boy into. Whether he would oblige and play along she had no clue about...but half the fun was in rounding the prey and tossing it around, wasn't it? In addition to all of those little tit bits of fun she could imagine with the boy...she hadn't really done any flying ever since she had been at Patronus Academy and that was just horrible. She remembered how there was never a night of flying that she missed with her brothers and friends. No matter how hard it rained or all the snow that covered the ground...or even the darn humidity that made her hair frizzy...nothing stopped them from having that one little game every day. She missed that...she missed the games...she missed the fun...she missed how lively her life used to be...once upon a time. Right now, she found herself struggling to keep herself together with all the directions her messed up head was going. "Ohhh don't say no...pleasee..." she batted her eyelashes playfully and laughed softly. "I haven't climbed on my broom in so long...fly with me?" she repeated.

Kaleb was one of the few people that could successfully pull off appearing to be in a state of constant happiness. Most other students faltered somewhere along the the line - a brief flicker of sadness or a frown that lingered a bit too long. Kaleb wouldn't say he was necessarily better at it, he was just more careful about when he messed up. Just before sleeping, just when waking up or when he was bathing. Those were the only times he allowed his mask to fall. Every other moment of his life was spent wearing a warm smile with a teasing light in his eyes. Another reason he hadn't been closely acquainted with the Carlin in the past - she was very much so a closed book. Pretty in her own right, but a bit too void of emotion for his liking. But company nonetheless. They made their way through the corridors easily, Kaleb not bothering to fill the silence with useless prattle. She was smiling and that was enough for him. Continuing on a bit further, she suddenly turned walking backwards. Kaleb's eyes lit in amusement, tilting his head much in the same manner as she was. "I suddenly feel an urge to fly...how does that sound?" He grinned at that glancing out at a nearby window. It was cold outside, but something about flying was tugging pleasantly at his chest. It was something he always enjoyed doing - something he excelled at. He had spent his younger years flying with his brother - trying to teach his sister to fly. His mind was moving too quickly in the wrong direction and he immediately caught himself before there was any outward shift in his expression.
"I don't know," he said, teasing lightly. His eyes were sparkling excitedly at the idea though. "Ohhh don't say no...pleasee..." She batted her eyelashes at him and he laughed along with her. "I haven't climbed on my broom in so long...fly with me?" Kaleb rolled his eyes in mock exasperation before sighing. "I guess we could do that," he drawled playfully before sliding towards her with every intention of hooking her arm and heading back to the Common Room. They needed their brooms afterall. He led them up the tower, muttering the password before sliding down the staircase that opened beneath them. "Meet you back here in a second." He darted away, finding his way to his own room and retrieving his broom. He was not a flirt and was always careful to keep everything casual with the people he cared about. There was a fear that if he ever let anyone get that close, they would start to see the truth. His hand was tucked safely under his arm as he slid out of his room. If Carlin had intended for them to share a broom, the notion was completely lost on him - everything was innocent about the things he did and planned. The grin was wide on his face as Kaleb made his way back to the Common Room to wait for Carlin. He stood by the entrance, tapping his foot - though it was excitement, not impatience, that fueled the restless movement. Kaleb couldn't help but be a bit excited - Merlin, he loved flying. Sure, there was quidditch practice starting soon, but there was nothing as freeing as soaring through the air with absolutely not restrictions. Oh, he couldn't wait.

Okay; maybe Carlin could try slipping back in time and being the way she was with her brothers. Bright and sporty...and one that actually laughed her heart out. But there really weren't many she let herself do that with. Somehow, in company of boys or anyone else she dimmed down to what she was. With girls she was annoyed or angry. With boys she was flirtatious and cocky. This boy right here seemed to make her want to rewind a few years in her age and be that eleven year old cheery girl. Laughing with him as he hooked her arm and led her towards their common room; it was only then that she even realized she was in her house. She hadn't even noticed him ever in the common rooms or dormitories...she looked at the boy realizing how he didn't really catch any of her interest; it wasn't a surprise she didn't notice him around. Nodding as he said he'd be right back she jumped up the stairs mimicking him. For some reason, she seemed to get even more excited just watching his enthusiasm and reaction to her idea. Within; it had grown more from the intention to flirt to one of simple, plain fun. But then again, did that even exist in Carlin books anymore? As she walked into her room and grabbed the first wand that lay in her closet her eyes fell on the long blue socks. Her head immediately wrapped it around her legs and decided it would shape her legs perfectly. The short inch of skin between her skirt and the top of the socks would be such a tease...and there she was, back to her real self in no time. Laughing at herself she pulled out the light blue socks and slipped it on reaching a little below her knee. It would keep her warm too...she thought to herself almost like she was finding an excuse to say she really wasn't just being coy. Stretching her legs and admiring how it made her long legs look she jumped off the bed and stared at them for a moment longer at her full-length mirror. Well...if not anything it did just look good. She winked at herself and pulled the broom to her side. Noticing the number of rings and bracelets on her fingers and wrist she slipped them off onto the side table not really wanting to loose any of them. With just a long silver chain around her neck and holding on to the dark broom she rushed down the stairs.
Kelab was already there tapping his foot impatiently; that grin never leaving his face. Carlin wondered if he ever got angry or sad. Didn't everyone have emotions like that? As much as Carlin never liked showing them...she knew she had them all and mostly an extreme of everything. And once shown it was never a good sight. "Come on!" she said a little too loudly that she would have. It had simply been too long. It almost reminded her of those good old days when she had so many boys to tag along and compete with. The balance that she had of fun and flirting had been just perfect...but there, it all had to go down the drain with the darkness. A sudden sigh left her lips at the thought but a look at the boys face wiped it all off. She smiled running down the stairs and making her way quickly towards the grounds. A sharp, cold wind hit her just as soon as she was out making a gasp softly. "Wow! It is cold." she laughed to him and then jumped down the stairs skipping over a couple. In a few moments she had mounted her broom and soared up, beginning to circle around the area as she scanned the place wondering where they should be heading. The wind in her hair and the way the chill rang in her ears made her face turn whiter than it was already...her lips already a light shade of blue. Her legs tucked perfectly on the sides with her skirt swishing over her thighs...her hands gripping firmly around the broom. "That way..." she pointed straight ahead towards some cliff she could see a whole lot further. "We're racing!!" she shouted, turned back to wink at him, laughed and zoomed forwards.

People often mistook Kaleb for immature or childish given his light-hearted approach to life. And while he certainly had an air of innocence about him, he wasn't as blissfully ignorant as many people thought. Oh, he knew the horrors of the world - he saw the evidence anytime he stepped in his home. His mother and sister were both dead; one didn't remain as innocent after something like that. He had been there. During the attack, he had seen some of his friends suffer, seen some of them die. Oh, no. Regardless of what many people thought, Kaleb knew full-well the implications of the rising darkness. He just chose to push past it. Pretend that everything was alright. The more you said it, the more you believed it. And he desperately needed to believe it. It was easier to deal with smile than a troubled mind - for everyone. He slid with Carlin down the corridors, hurrying into the Common Room, retrieving his broom and waiting for her patiently. She returned after a few moments, the subtle wardrobe change went completely unnoticed by Kaleb who was too eager to get back on the broom to realize. "Come on!" Kaleb grinned and followed her quickly as they made their way out to the grounds. A few of the older students they passed threw looks of disapproval at how quickly they were moving, but the younger students looked on with wide smiles of admiration.
They broke through the door and the cold wrapped around him almost instantly. "Wow! It's cold." Kaleb chuckled. "Yeah, that happens sometimes in the winter." The tease was light - as it usually was - and had no malicious lilt. It was cold. But it wasn't unbearable and at least the wind was relatively light. Granted, that was going to change the moment they slid into the air. They made their way down the stairs before Carlin took off. A crooked grin tugged at his lips before he mounted his own broom and darted after her. Kaleb let out an appreciate cry of laughter as he shot up into the air, spiraling easily before shooting back towards the ground. The air was prickling coolly against his skin and his hair was whipping behind him crazily. Oh, how he missed this. "That way..." His gaze shifted back to Carlin as she pointed in the distance. She glanced back at him with a ink. "We're racing!" she called out with a laugh. Kaleb's eyes lit up as she started ahead, a warm laugh passing his lips. "You cheater!" he yelled after her before pushing himself to his broom and hurling himself forward. He wasn't even sure where they were headed but he followed her easily. There was too much of a head start to really consider racing her, so he settled for letting her dictate where they flew. He stayed just above her, a few distant yards behind her. "Hey!" he hollered into the wind. "Where are we going?" The smile was still plastered on his face and his question was curious more than anything else. As long as the activity was enjoyable and kept a smile on their faces, he didn't mind one way or another.

"Does it matter?" Carlin shouted over the loud sound of the wind in her ear and their brooms cutting through the air swiftly. She flew a little to the side so that she could diagonally look back at him as they spoke...but didn't slow down at all. She loved the momentum that pushed her further and further...as she got used to a certain speed she'd push harder...and as that seemed too normal she'd be zooming faster. "Don't you just love this feeling...." her voice trailed off gleefully. "Let's just fly...far far away..." ...from this horrid castle and all the mess here... her head added almost confusing her for a moment. Yes, she did hate this place but her life was taking a good turn; an acceptable one at least. Flying did bring back a whole lot from her days before the attack...flying brought back memories from home...how she used it to escape all the things she never liked. The littel brat she was found her way around things by being stubborn and disappearing to the outskirts or remote places for hours together. As she grew up it became a sport...Quidditch..her brothes and their friends all together. No, she was no where close to being a tomboy; just a little oblivious about the basic boy-girl connection. But as soon as that became evident it had became a game...a game to lure them boys in with her long legs inviting longing gazes and teases. There rarely was a time she played it just for the fun of it after that...until now? Her gaze fell on the boy who was by her side now. He was an amazing flyer and an adorable boy. Adorable...yes; that really wouldn't be the way she describe a guy she wanted to get with. A brother? She wondered surprisingly herself at even letting herself think that. No one could take the place of her brothers in her life. They weren't always the sweetest and they probably were the most crazy and messed up boys anyone could ever meet...but being that little spoiled younger girl in the family she had advantage over a whole lot of things. How she grew into the person she was? It wasn't a wonder...all her brothers were hormone-driven boys whose dirty words were overheard by this young one. So no...Kelab couldn't take the place of her brothers; but he could be that conventional brother...sweet, kind and protective, couldn't he?
At least...a competitive sibiling? She laughed loudly as she dipped down suddenly and circled around him; rising above him and then zooming forward the very minute she was so close to his side once again. They had reached the cliff she had pointed at earlier...now flying over the glistening water that held their distorted reflection. She sank down quickly hooking her legs up to be able to bend over and run her fingers through the chilly water....thin layer of ice just forming over it. The cold shot through her arm almost numbing it before she could pull it away. As she moved back up and let her legs dangle down slightly to kick and push upwards. Her laughter echoing softly as she reached by his side and bumped him gently with her the end of her broom. "Into the forest? or up the mountain?" she pointed to her right first and let her finger move straight ahead and made a movement of flying over the moutain. The chilly weather had frozen her body and she really didn't think she'd be able to fly for too long. She almost could not feel the hand around her broom buy kept on going with the rush she had from before. Slowing down she raised her hands to her chest to rub her fingers together warming them up as much as she could. The clouds seemed to be changing colour...no longer grey or white but showed shades of orange, red and slight blues. Licking her lips and sucking on them to send some blood flowing through them; she spoke "I wonder why we never crossed paths before even though we have something we love in common..." a smile raised her lips as she continued "...what else do you do around Patronus Academy though? It's quite boring out here, isn't it?"

"Don't you just love this feeling..." Kaleb grinned widely at her words even as the trailed off into the wind that continued to whip by. "Let's just fly...far far away..." His mind shot to his father. His brother. The uncomfortable silence that lingered in their manor now. Merlin, how wonderful it would be to escape it all. But he wouldn't leave them there alone. No. He would take them with him and hope that he could lighten their days just a bit. His brother had been the one to teach him to fly, but he couldn't remember the last time they had flown together - heck, he couldn't remember the last time he'd been on a broom. Kaleb had tried to teach Olivia, but her strengths were definitely in her studies and the poor girl never ventured outside enough to really get the hang of it. And now, she never would. The smile was frozen on his face - Carlin wouldn't notice the muddled mess that was creeping into his mind. But he did, and he shoved it away hurriedly. Now wasn't the time to be thinking thoughts like those. In fact, it was never the time to be thinking thoughts like those. Avoid the thoughts and keep a smile on your face and you were likely to start a chain reaction. Just look at Carlin. She was smiling, she was laughing, and Kaleb wasn't going to let his own selfish troubles mar the happy moment. They reached the cliff and Kaleb's eyes lit up at the sight he took in. It was incredible how trained he was in pushing everything back - it was almost second nature by now. And with the cruel thoughts far from his concentration, he could appreciate the beautiful view. Carlin slid closer to the water, running her fingers along the thin icy surface. Kaleb reached his own hand out, the water was so cold and he was flying so fast, it felt as though he'd been burned.
Jerking his broom back up, he grinned at her. "Don't fall in," he joked, the laughter evident in his voice. Not two seconds later, she darted back up, her own laughter echoing through the area as she nudged him lightly. He never realized how much of his own happiness came from making others happy. Seeing Carilng so light-hearted after the common perception that she was anything but was thrilling to him. It didn't occur to him, of course, but he relished the warm happiness that filled his chest. "Into the forest? or up the mountain?" Kaleb glanced back at the castle, wondering if perhaps they shouldn't stray too far. He was always up for an adventure, but with the wizarding world the way it was, it probably wasn't the smartest idea. "Maybe we should start to head back," he amended, "we can fly circles around the castle." His eyes were bright, the numbness in his hands completely lost in the adrenaline coursing through him. "I wonder why we never crossed paths before even though we have something we love in common..." Kaleb shrugged easily, smile still firmly in place. "It's a big school," he offered. Oh, he'd heard the stories of her in the boy's dormitory, but he figured it wasn't appropriate to bring it up. "...what else do you do around Patronus Academy though? It's quite boring out here, isn't it?" Kaleb grinned, lifting a bit on his broom. "Nah, it's not boring. Only boring people get bored." The tease was evident in his voice before he stretched his arms high above him for a yawn, still unaware of the lack of feeling in his fingers. "There's always something to do."

Spending time with Kelab was a breath of fresh air. It was simple, clean and not more than just a day out in the sky. She didn't even have to think...it was almost like flying alone; but just...better. To have someone there laughing and joking...even if she didn't join in because she really wasn't someone who was good with words. She loved people who could string words in a wonderful fashion...but she herself lacked that talent; precisely why she loved it so much. She simply was in awe as to how they could say anything and everything so clearly and believably...even if honest or not. The way they could lure a person in without an effort at all. It was truly amazing. Kelab, however, was a genuine person. He was just real and original. Something Carlin failed at being...there were too many layers of skin over her and many more than she shed to let her thirst for boys be quenches. She was shameless and thickly covered under the blankets at the same time...a complete contrast to the boy there; or at least she thought. The boy seemed like such an open book...one who didn't seem to have any worries or troubles...or at least never let it bother him as much. He sure was careful either ways; she thought as she turned around and agreed to fly back to the castle. She really did want to venture out and beyond but no...not alone. Circling round the castle sounded just fine as long as she could have some company. The thoughts of Evelyn in her mind and anything more would only turn her sour a little later...she knew she'd need this little time off. Smiling at Kelab she nodded happily and followed him towards the castle. Slowly at first...but beginning to fool around by flying in zig-zags and spirals around him as they went on. She had an amazing control over her broom and did a great job in hooking her legs up so tight and straight against the broom that there was no friction or stop against the wind. She only worked with the broom like a stick herself to move around in the sky.
Continuing to fly she had slowed down to talk to him...it was a wonder how they did not bump into each other or even spend any time before this. A waste to say the least. They could have bonded a whole lot more...but well, she probably did need the bonding when she had Ian. Now, however, it was different. She smiled at his answer but shook her head. No...it wasn't that. She was just too shallow a person to be out being with someone that didn't fit in the slot she had opened. Kelab would never have fit into any...and even now, it was only because of her utter desperation for company that she even had considered letting herself open up a position for him. The boy, probably, knew that...but he didn't seem to act like he did. If he did, he sure didn't seem to mind too much. Circling around him slowly as she licked and chewed on her lips she had continued to ask him what he did at the academy. His reply made her laugh and stick a tongue out at him playfully. The gesture made her stop for just a second. She didn't do that often...she never did that. It had come out so naturally just then...and it surprised her. Such ease...so genuine and free. A frown creased her forehead as she wondered what it really meant but decided not to dwell on it too much as the boy continued to speak. "What is there?" she asked making a bored face. "Really...I always just end up flying or cooped up in my room doing nothing much. And do not say anything to do with books...that just does not work with me." she added rolling her eyes. "Life at Hogwarts was a whole lot better." she said looking back at him. "This place....it's so...new." she cringed her nose disapprovingly. The darkness of the sunset that dimmed down on them made her slow down and take in the beauty of the place. "Goshh...it's cold..." she shivered as they got closer to the castle. Slowing down to rub her hands again..."Are you like immune to it?" she laughed softly seeing how he seemed so unaffected by it. Her fingers were frozen and her toes were close to it under those blue socks. Thank god for them...even if the intention in putting them on had been completely different.
