Evelyn had always been one for breaking the rules. That's why she found herself walking around after curfew in the basement. She knew if she got caught, she'd get in a lot of trouble. But she didn't care. After tossing and turning in her bed for two hours, she'd thrown off the covers and quietly snuck out of her dorm. She was dressed in dark blue silky pajamas that complimented her features. Sighing, she tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. She'd been so damn stressed out lately. Nightmares were returning and they were making it hard for her to get a decent night's sleep. She had also been worried about her homework. But those weren't the only things on her mind. It had been a few weeks since her 'kiss' with Carlin, and she just couldn't get the girl out of her mind. It was absolutely ridiculous. She'd tried to read or work on homework to get her mind off her, but it never worked. Carlin was driving her mad. She started avoiding her completely, afraid of what would happen if they saw each other. Evelyn brushed her hand across the walls as she walked, letting her mind wander. It was bad enough having a crush on someone who didn't like you back, but having a crush on another girl made things worse.

The raven-haired girl was about to turn around and go back to her dorm when she stopped someone walking ahead of her. Crap. A Prefect? She frowned and walked a little faster to see who it was. And immediately wished she'd had gone back to her dorm. Walking in front of her was a certain Badger. Of course. She stopped walking, debating on what to do. If she turned around and ran, things would only get worse. If she talked to her, maybe it'd help her get over her crush if she knew for sure that Carlin didn't feel the same way. Running a hand through her hair, she jogged the rest of the way and fell in step with her. Relax, Evleyn, she told herself. "Shouldn't you be in bed?" she asked casually, as if they had been friends for a long time. It was too late to go back now.

Carlin barely got any sleep ever since the attack. She'd sit up all night scribbling in her diary or writing pointless things in loose papers and stuffing them in her small personal book. She'd doodle in parchments and paint with quills and stick them in designing her little black book. It was something she had begun doing this summer to get her mind off of things and to occupy herself throughout the night. At home, stepping out in the dark was never an option because of the heavy spellwork her mother had set over it. Her mother had become so paranoid that they even had strong spells guarding their doors and the locks were made in such a way that only they could open it up. It was a suffocating life. As if things were bad enough she had to live in such a restricted environment making her want to run away. And, of course, in a way she had. She was here at Patronus Academy...and no, it wasn't any better. This place was just as bad and clearly not as interesting at Hogwarts was. The medival castle had been one that no one would ever be done exploring. This castle, however, was completely modernized and all glossy...clean but just not the way she wanted it. Tucking her little book inside her pale yellow night robes; she slipped out of the common room softly. Being light on her feet and so thin she could slip in anywhere without being noticed. Her jet black hair against the pale yellow of her gown and the shiny white walls of the castle wasn't helping. Hogwarts was better for this too...the stone walls and brown, dull textures of it made it so easy to blend into the background. Walking along the walls with her hands sliding along the smooth cold walls she let herself sink into the silence of the night.

"Shouldn't you be in bed?" a voice startled her making her jump and press her back against the wall. Realizing who it was her eyes narrowed and she stood back straight again continuing to walk. Oh...this girl was so annoying. It had been just a few days ago that she literally bumped into her down the Eternal town. She had walked away wishing to never see the girl ever again; but here she was...actually making conversation after their little incident. She really did confuse Carlin...she seemed just as mad that day; but here she was actually walking up to her and making conversation. Didn't she get the point? Carlin had no interest in talking to her...she didn't want to. More than her being annoying she made Carlin uncomfortable...their "kiss" hadn't seem to be one that was easily erasable from her mind and she really couldn't understand why. "Shouldn't you?" she snap back in a whisper not looking at the girl. "Just go away alright...stop bothering me. I wish to be alone." she added softly trying her best not to raise her voice. For some reason her blood was boiling already...it was strange how her temper rose so quickly and that too, for nothing significant. She dared not look at the girl...

Evelyn was more than surprised to run into Carlin down in the basement. At least she hadn't literally smacked into her, like their last encounter. She eyed her carefully, taking in her appearance. She looked just as pretty as ever. She shrugged and walked along with her. Her heart was beating in her chest like crazy, and she was sure Carlin could hear it. "Who likes to follow the rules?" she asked quietly. "It's boring," Once, she and an old foster sibling, Savannah, had snuck downstairs in the middle of the night and had gorged on a whole carton of ice cream. The next day, both girls were sick and in a heap of trouble. But it had been worth it to eat all the delicious ice cream. So, if she and Carlin were to be caught right now, Evelyn thought it would be worth it. Just to spend a little time with her. They couldn't keep avoiding each other, anyway. Evelyn tried her hardest not to look at Carlin as they walked, but her eyes kept sliding over to watch the little movements Carlin would make. She sighed once more. This was going to be harder than she thought.

"So," Evelyn said, after a moment of silence. "Have your bruises healed?" It was just a question. But the look Carlin shot her told her she should just stop talking to her. But when Evelyn got nervous, she talked a lot. The skittish girl began to play with a crescent-shaped necklace she had received as a gift from Mr. Fletch--er, her dad. It helped calm her. They were walking in silence again and it was almost too much for her to bear. Without thinking, she gently grabbed Carlin by her wrists and pushed her up against the wall. "Why do you hate me? Is it because I knocked you down? Is it because I'm not in the same House as you are?" she whispered, forcing herself to lock eyes with her companion. They were so close Evelyn could see her reflection in Carlin's eyes. "Look, just because you're really pretty, that doesn't give you a right to make fun of other people." A second later, she realized what she'd said and she clapped a hand over her mouth, her other hand still holding onto Carlin's wrist. Shit.

Evelyn just continued to talk like she was welcome. Carlin couldn't help but frown as she listened to her say something about following rules being boring. Did she ask? No. So go away! She didn't quite get why the girl simply tagged along when she had clearly told her to leave and that she wanted to be alone. She seemed to have completely ignored it and continued as if Carlin hadn't said anything. She decided to keep silent and simply wish the girl would get tired and walk away. After all, that's what ones like these who loved to talk always did. They got bored and left Carlin alone. But, apparently, this one was an exception. "Have your bruises healed?" she asked and Carlin turned her head switfly and shot her a glare. "Don't you understand english? I asked you to leave me alone..." she spat clenching her jaw and wishing she wouldn't loose her temper and have to yell at the girl. Somewhere deep inside she even wished some Prefect would come around and throw them back to their common rooms; maybe then she could get rid of this annoying little leech that she couldn't shake off. Just as soon as the words were out of her mouth she turned her head and looked away from her walking straight ahead quickening her pace slightly as she went on. The only thought in her head was to get away from this creep and slip back into her common room. She was beginning to regret coming down to the basement for no reason; she really should have just curled up in bed and stared at the beautiful moonlight that streamed through her window. As different thoughts entered her mind she began calming down and momentarily forgetting the girl that walked by her side. But not for long...

Taken by surprise she stared down at the girl as she pushed her against the wall and demanded to know why Carlin hated her. As she shoved her hand away Carlin almost laughed at the next words that came out of her mouth. "Gosh! You really are dumb." she tried to push the girls arm trying to make her let go of her. "When the hell did I make fun of you? I asked you to leave because I don't like you." she spat angrily. "And I don't like you because you are an annoying little git that I have no interest for." she was breathing heavily and her voice was rising slowly as she spoke on. It took all her constraint to stop from pushing the girl with all her force. No matter how weak she looked her limbs were strong enough to push a girl off of her. She simply didn't want to make a scene just then. "Let me go..." she hissed. "Or I swear...I'll punch you so hard you'll cry." she warned glaring straight into the girls' eyes just for a second before she looked away yet again. It was so uncomfortable to look at her. Carlin was always the one to maintain eye contact...but this female made her so uneasy. All she wanted was to have her hands off her and her body not so close..."I'm warning you...don't make me..." she said...but it came out in mumbles as she tried to look back into her eyes again. Something about the way the girl looked at her made her stomach churn. She squirmed to push the girl further from her...

"When the hell did I make fun of you? I asked you to leave because I don't like you." Carlin had hissed out at her. Well, sheesh. I only knocked you down. It wasn't that big of a deal. It's not like you broke your wrist or something. "Okay, fine. So maybe you haven't made fun of me. But you have been mean to me. I already apologized for knocking you down before. What do you want, for me to write 'I'm sorry' on a piece of parchment a hundred times and give it to you?" Evelyn was talking so fast she nearly missed Carlin's threat. But those words were all it took. Suddenly, Evelyn wasn't holding Carlin against a wall in the basement of Patronus Academy. Instead, she was back at in the Harrisons' house.

"I'm sorry!" eight-year-old Evelyn cried, glancing at the broken vase. Billy and Tim were standing next to her. All three had guilty looks on their faces.

"You're sorry?" Mr. Harrison had roared, causing the three kids to jump. "Do you realize how much that costs us?!"

Evelyn shook her head. "N-no."

Mr. Harrison grabbed Evelyn by her arm and dragged her into his study, telling her he'd punch her so hard she'd cry.

That same night, she had to cover her bruises with Mrs. Harrison's makeup. She never touched another fragile object in that house again. Blinking rapidly, she realized she was not back in the Harrison household. She was with Carlin. She breathed in deeply. "N-never say anything like that to me again," she whispered shakily. She closed her eyes momentarily, only opening them when she heard Carlin'svoice. .."I'm warning you...don't make me..."

Evelyn frowned. "Would you just shut up?!" she spat. And then she did something any reasonable person would do to get someone else to stop talking. She kissed her.

The two of them talking together Carlin quickly stopped as she picked up a few words of what she was saying. Rolling her eyes she was about to growl back when the girl suddenly shut her eyes for a moment too long and then flew them back open again. What the hell... she pulled her head back hitting the back against the wall as she stared at the girl who was blinking her eyes continously. The words "What's wrong" was held in her throat as she fought back the instinct to ask. She shouldn't care...why should she? She just wanted to get away from the girl. True, the suddenly weird actions and blankness made her curious but really she shouldn't be bothered. Carlin told herself to push thoughts of this girl away and maintain her cold demenour. As the girl whispered and continued to speak Carlin's insides were burning up; oh yes...the anger was back again. "I'm warning you...don't make me..." she started only to be cut off and pushed back against the wall with her lips crashing against hers. A gasp left her lips at the sudden unexpected movement and she squirmed beneath her. "Whadhhuh.." she tried to speak as the girl continued to kiss her. The urgency to get away from the girl only grew as she felt those soft lips against hers yet again. The very same rush she felt the first time she felt them ran through her again...and honestly, it frightened her. She kicked her legs and pushed the girls hands away trying to get her off of her. "What...the...hell..." she started yet again only for all the words to be muffled by the kiss. She felt a part of her head trying to get her body to reciprocate...kiss her back as hard as she was being kissed. Carlin fought it with all her might...but she could feel those lips; the wetness over hers and how her thin ones open up slightly for hers. Her mind was in a turmoil just imagining and picturing the two of them like that. A battle in her head roared...both sides slashing at each other. She felt conflicted. She felt disgusted. She felt a rush between her legs. Her viens pulsated. Her head was throbbing. The feelings were all so confusing and all she could do was push the girl away. "What are you doing?" she lamely managed to moan out between their lips...gasping quickly...slow short breaths...

If someone had told Evelyn a week ago that she would be kissing Carlin Hayes in the middle of night, while everyone else was sleeping, she would have laughed and thought they had too much Firewhisky. The idea would have seemed ridiculous. Impossible. But here they were. Kissing. In the middle of the night. Evelyn's pulse started to race. Her heart thumped crazily in her chest and her head started to spin. This wasn't her first kiss, but it was her first kiss with a girl. Carlin's lips were so soft and smooth. She could feel Carlin trying to push her away and protest, but it as if Evelyn were in a trance. "What are you doing?" Evelyn heard Carlin mumble before Carlin pulled back from her.

Evelyn blinked slowly, as if waking up. She was sure her face was flushed. "I..." she fumbled incoherently. How stupid was she? Why did she just do that? She glanced down at her hand, still holding onto Carlin's wrist. She immediately let go, but couldn't bring herself to move away. "S-sorry," she gasped. She swallowed and tore her eyes away from Carlin's face, studying the floor. "I-I didn't mean to do that. You were just--and I wanted you to shut up so I--" she explained weakly. She felt so, so stupid. But in the short moment that they were kissing, Evelyn felt...alive. She couldn't explain it. It scared her how fast she had fallen for Carlin and the affect this girl had on her. Her mouth suddenly felt very dry. She backed away from Carlin, keeping her eyes glued to the floor. Carlin was probably going to tell the whole school. And then what would happen? Finally, she forced herself to look at her. "I-I have to go. Somewhere. Over there," she whispered, pointing down the hall. Without another word, she bolted.

"What the fuck was that!?" she spat out the minute the girl pulled away and rubbed her lips hard. She stared at the girl panting and frowned at the confusion she saw on her face. Her face had turned a deep shade of red and she stuttered incoherent words ending with a lame sorry. As soon as her hand was let go she slipped out from between the wall and her and stared at her angrily watching her speak...to the floor? Her words probably made sense to a softer person...but Carlin was completely taken aback by the girls action. What the hell did she think she was doing? The kiss was completely unnatural...and yet there was a part of her that enjoyed that strangeness. A shudder ran down her spine at the thought of liking it. No..noo...she was no queer. Oh please no...she loved her boys. Their tough bodies and rough hands were what she wanted slipping down her body and not soft, gentle ones. Her mind cooed at the thought making her wonder how true were her thoughts. No noo...she battled with her head yet again. It was just sudden. She had just been taken by surprise and didn't know how to react...it was simple confusion; nothing else. Oh! It couldn't be anything else. Carlin licked her lips and suddenly tasted the girl on her. She licked it off slowly...and then rubbed it off quickly shocked by her own confusion. What was there to be confused about? Why was she confused?

Carlin stayed silent throughout and simply stood thee with her eyes on the girl absent-mindedly. Her eyes followed the girl as she walked away speaking disconnected words. The night sure had taken a weird turn and Carlin wasn't sure how to evaluate any of it. This annoying littel girl had just smacked her lips with a kiss and thrown her off track. Carlin almost felt an inclination to it but was completely disgusted by the thought. Rubbing her lips continously she turned around and started climbing up the stairs. She simply had to clear her mind right now...slip into a warm shower and wipe away the feel of the girl completely, slide in under her sheets and wish sleep would find her. The morning would come...and her mind would be clear. She'd know what to do then...right now, she shut her mind and made her way to the common room quitely. The images of the girl before her and pressing into her so hard to push away...she swallowed hard and bit her lips...
