Evelyn traced her fingers over the spine on her book she had brought from home. Her foster sister, Arianna, loved to read and had allowed her to borrow some books. The book was about Quidditch and Evelyn had read it about five times already. Evelyn loved to read and write, because it kept her mind off the things she was so desperately trying to forget. The nightmares and memories that she shoved deep into her subconscious. She sighed and buried her head in her hands. She was so tired. She hadn't slept at all the previous night and wanted nothing more than to crawl back into her bed for a week. But she couldn't. She opened her book and leafed through the pages, barely glancing at the black text on the page. Around her, students were entering and leaving the study hall. She tried to do her best not to speak to anyone or make eye contact.
The slim girl rested her head, eyes fluttering shut. It would be fine to just take a little nap, right? If people thought she was sleeping, then no one would bother her. Or talk to her. It still felt weird to be at a new school. She really missed Hogwarts. She missed her friends who had died during the attack. Had the attack affected others as much as it had affected her? Or had her classmates already moved on? She listened to the noises around her. Two people were talking a table away. Another person was furiously scratching their quill against a piece of parchment. She heard and felt someone sit down at her table. Evelyn groggily looked up, pushing her black locks out of her dark eyes. She smiled a little at her former Ravenclaw housemate. "Kylie. Hi," she said. She yawned and stretched, half wishing Kylie would get up and leave and half hoping she'd stay. How long had it been since she had spoken to her? They had been in the same House, after all. She closed her book quietly and glanced up at her.
