Aimee watched carefully, eyes taking in the obvious signs that the conversation was about to become much more serious than initially anticipated. There was a slow nod and Aimee waited patiently to see if the answer would be elaborated any further than that. "Three close friends." The emotion was thick in her vocie and Aimee's eyes softened. She didn't apologize for the loss because she knew the words - while polite - were empty. Saying 'I'm sorry' wouldn't change how much it hurt. "It's difficult," she offered quietly, understanding lacing her words. It wasn't much, but Aimee knew it was appropriate to offer something. Anything. "The thing is," Amelia continued, "I've suffered more loss except for the attack of Hogwarts." Her stomach twisted at the implications of the words, a few familiar images of her own flickering dimly across her vision. There was something she understood. "So, losing 3 friends wasn't that much of a blow."
Aimee nodded dimly, but said nothing. Her hardships at home had made losing Cecilia more difficult, but it seemed that whatever Amelia had faced was a different sort of difficult. "My mum committed suicide in my 1st year." Aimee's hand was reaching out across the table to rest lightly against Amelia's before she could stop herself. Her expression was soft, but not necessarily sympathetic - the composure was meant to help Amelia keep herself gathered as well. "I left Hogwarts, and came back in my 3rd year." Her eyes slid back to Aimee, the grimace noticed but ignored as she spoke again. "So, the loss wasn't such a blow." Aimee pulled her hand back gently. "Life hands us trials all the time," she said quietly. "It's how we handle them that defines us as persons." She swallowed thickly before deciding it was only fair to open up a bit about her own thoughts. "My best friend was killed - Cecilia Morten - in the attack." Her voice was calm, composed and passive. A part of her considered offering a bit of information about her family, but she decided it was best to keep that to herself. Two people knew the extent of her home life and in her opinion it was two too many - though she trusted both Leonis and Damon with her life. No, stick to Cecilia. As painful as it was, it was past. It was done. Meanwhile, her family life was still waging war against her.
