The sun was shining dimly from outside, the wind unusually loud as Aimee slid down a corridor. Her gaze shifted out of a nearby window with a quiet sigh. Looked like another perfect day for studying. It was getting cooler and the leaves were just beginning to change. She really needed to study though. Studying was the easiest way to find a sense of normalcy when her thoughts strayed to the previous year and the attack. Aimee didn't study in the Great Hall anymore - the memories of her studying with Cecilia was just too painful to deal with. And so the library was her natural destination. It was comfortable and much quieter than the Lion Common Room. She slid through the corridors, throwing a reproving look to a particularly rambunctious group of younger students. The noise faded to hushed whispers, a few of the students throwing apologetic looks in her direction. Aimee simply shook her head at them with a small smile before entering the library.
It was wonderful. Familiar. It wasn't the same as the library from Hogwarts, but it was similar enough to put her at ease. She readjusted her bag, eyes scanning the area for an empty table, frowning slightly when she saw none. There was, however, a table with a vaguely familiar girl already settled down and studying. Aimee hesitated only a moment before she slid into the seat across from her. "Hey," she said quietly, "Amelia, right? I'm Aimee. I think we had some classes together in the past?" It was tempting to specify back at Hogwarts but she had come to the library to escape the painful memories not bring them back up. She smiled good-naturedly at the other girl. "Do you mind if I join you?"

She needed the studying time. It was just time to herself, and lately, she needed it. The peace and quiet was only offered at the library. Therefore, she set off there, her textbooks in her hands neatly. She didn't tend to visit the library a lot. She normally did most of her work in the Common Room, but she felt that the peace and quiet was nice. She entered the library, and sighed slightly. It was slightly bigger than the Hogwarts library, but - once again - there was an uneasy atmosphere. As if there should be more people present. The people who escaped Hogwarts had been extremely lucky. But sometimes, just sometimes, Amelia wished that she hadn't escaped. Her life would be easier then. She wouldn't have to suffer through the pain of losing her friends. And she wouldn't have to mourn for her mother any more. Everything would be easier. However, Amelia quickly dismissed this thought from her head. No. Life was good. Amelia slumped down at a table, with 2 more chairs around the table. Now, she would have to get to work. She took her quill out, and dipped it in the black ink lightly. However, soon she saw a familiar girl slide into the chair opposite her. "Hey," she said quietly. "Amelia, right? I'm Aimee. I think we had some classes together in the past?" she asked.
Amelia nodded quickly. Obviously, she had wanted to say 'back at Hogwarts', but the topic was still too raw to address completely. "Do you mind if I join you?" she asked nicely. Amelia's eyes trailed up to look at Aimee. She smiled nicely at her. She had seen her around, and had talked to her a couple of times. She seemed like a sweet girl. "Yes, Amelia," she confirmed "Oh, no. I don't mind at all." she explained quickly, her eyes trailing down to Aimee's textbooks. "So, what're you falling behind in?" she joked light heartedly. She didn't want to get off on the wrong track with her. Ever since she had lost her close friends, she had felt relatively lonely. Having a friend who was a girl was always comforting. Someone to have a good natured chat with.

Aimee hadn't been lucky. Luck had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that she was alive and well. Some had managed to escape by chance. That hadn't been the case with Aimee. Not at all. Leonis was the reason she was alive today, the reason she was completely untouched by the attack on Hogwarts. Well, physically untouched. The pain from the losses of her friends - especially Cecilia - still weighed heavily in her heart. She was grateful to be alive. Grateful that she hadn't fallen at the end of the last year school year, but that didn't mean she didn't wish things could change. She would have given almost anything to have her best friend back. And yet, she knew she was among the luckier ones. She had lost only one close relation; there had been others that had lost family members, siblings. She didn't want to think about the devastation that attack had left in its wake. She wanted to study and escape it. And so she slid next to a fellow Lion, Amelia, and asking if she could join her.
"Yes, Amelia," the girl replied easily and Aimee smiled at her kindly. "Oh, no. I don't mind at all. So, what're you falling behind in?" The joke was light and Aimee sensed no ill-will so she permitted herself a quiet laugh. "Care of Magical Beasts and Beings," she admitted, holding up her book with a casual roll of her eyes. It wasn't that she was behind even. It was easily her worst subject, but even her worst subject was average for most. She grinned easily with a small shrug. "Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures were always my worst subjects so I guess at least now I'm only struggling through one class instead of two." She chuckled quietly before flipping her book open, casting Amelia's book a short glance as she did. "What about you? Anything exciting?" She kept her voice quiet, but her eyes were shining kindly. There was nothing wrong with making new friends....even if thinking of past friendships was painful. Keep moving forward.

She glanced down at her parchment, suddenly realising she had just been writing without really thinking about it. She glanced down, and smiled when she saw the name 'Aimee' on it. That was what happened when you wrote without concentrating on what you were writing. She quickly flipped it over, revealing a blank side. "Care of Magical Beasts and Beings," Aimee admitted, showing her the textbook. Amelia nodded at her slightly. Care of Magical Beasts and Beings had always been a subject that she didn't really mind. It was easy enough for her. "Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures were always my worst subjects so I guess at least now I'm only struggling through one class instead of two." she explained, and Amelia gave her an easy smile. To be honest, she slightly missed Herbology. She had never understood why they didn't pick up the old subjects again. It made her slightly uneasy. As if they were ready for an attack on her new school, and they simply didn't want the students to get comfortable. She gave a slight shudder at the thought of another attack. That, she simply couldn't live through. "What about you? Anything exciting?" she asked quietly. Amelia chuckled slightly, at the thought of Potions being interesting.
"Oh, yes," she started sarcastically "Potions and History. Interesting, eh?" she explained calmly, and glanced down at her parchment. She really should get on with it. She didn't want to drop behind this early in the year. She scratched a few sentences down onto her parchment, in her extremely neat handwriting, and looked back at Aimee. She no longer felt in the mood for studying. The thought that there might be an attack on the Patronus Academy was extremely frightening. She knew the chances were extremely slim, but they had attacked Hogwarts. And Hogwarts had been known as the safest place to be. So why couldn't it happen again. She set her quill down, and opened her History book. There was no point in even trying to write her Potions essay. Not with such thoughts buzzing around her head. "I just hate it that the subjects that you don't like, you seem to get more homework in." she said softly.

Aimee didn't try to pretend that things were the same here as they were at Hogwarts. Everything had changed. The students, some of the faculty, hell even some of the classes had changed. It wasn't easy, but Aimee had accepted that that's just how things had to be. Life never stopped - everything was always changing, developing and improving. There were setbacks, some more painful than others, but everything always moved forward. Dwelling on the past accomplished nothing and Aimee wasn't in the mood to let harsh memories ruin her future. The world didn't stop turning, so why should she stop moving forward? Simple. She shouldn't. And so sitting across from Amelia, she was trying to find the balance of keeping her tone ease while being respectful. Everyone had suffered last year and everyone was deaing with it in their own way. She didn't want to offend this girl and the people she might have lost. And so studying in the library was an acceptable way to pass the time. Topic conversations were easier. classes. Studies. It was easy. It was safe.
"Oh, yes," Amelia said sarcastically, "Potions and History. Interesting, eh?" Aimee smiled thinly at that. Potions. Leonis loved potions and he was good at them - she had been paired with him a few times at Hogwarts and she had to admit and arrogance with regard to that class was well deserved. She pushed the blonde Slytherin from her head and refocused on Amelia. "History was always the class I struggled to stay awake in," she replied easily. "So many dates and names and facts." She chuckled quietly with a small shake of her head. "Not my cup of tea." Amelia shifted her materials a bit before her voice came out softly. "I just hate it that the subjects that you don't like, you seem to get more homework in." Aimee's smile softened a bit - there was something bothering the girl in front of her. She didn't want to push her, but she wasn't sure where to let the conversation go. "The professors have it out for us," she teased lightly. She sighed before opening her book, but it wasn't long before she glanced up. "How have you been?" Dangerous question. But Aimee wouldn't be a Lion is she didn't take a risk now and then. Besides, she was articulate enough to talk her way out of trouble if necessary.

"The professors have it out for us," she explained teasingly, and Amelia let out a soft laugh. She nodded approvingly. Yes, Aimee she could get on with. She flipped open her book, and Amelia looked back to her History book, reading the Chapter without really concentrating on the words in front of her. She couldn't exactly take in the words - then again, History had never been a subject that she could fully concentrate in. The words seemed to be long, dreary explanations of something she really didn't give a crap about. However, after a short period of scanning the page, Aimee spoke again, slightly startling Amelia. "How have you been?" she asked calmly, though Amelia could hear the weariness in her voice. Everyone had wanted to ask that question, but everyone was afraid. What if they broke down? What if they started screaming? But that wasn't Amelia; though she really wanted to do both of these things. She let out a soft sigh, and fixated her gaze on Aimee. She gave her a small smile, as if in understanding that she wanted to ask that question. Aimee really was a true Lion. Brave, risking, and bold. Sometimes, Amelia wondered if she had been placed in the correct House at Hogwarts. She had been surprised at Gryffindor, and then again in Lion. She had never come across as brave - but she was happy that she was seen as it to some people.
"I'm... y'know." she said quietly, fiddling with her quill slightly, to occupy her attention, "No one's exactly fine lately, though. Every had their... losses. Some people's were bigger, some smaller. But everyone was affected." she started slowly, picking her words with extreme care. She didn't want to say anything to upset Aimee; after all, she didn't want to ruin the new friendship. However, she didn't want to elaborate; since then it would be as if picking a newly formed scab. "How about you?" she asked quickly, giving a small smile - trying to get the meaning across that she could not answer if she didn't want to. She didn't want to push anything - maybe Aimee had not yet even developed a 'scab', but still had the fresh cut.

It was tricky. Everything was tricky after the attack on Hogwarts. Finding the line of decency and comfort was difficult - especially when the line seemed to change with every person Aimee talked to. Some were ready to move forward - eager to leave the past behind them and forget all the horrible things that had happened. Others lingered in the memories, trying to hold on to what used to be. Aimee didn't think either was healthy, but she understood that people dealt with grief in different ways. She chose her words carefully, tone delicate whenever the topic even had a chance of being brought up. she didn't want to offend anybody and she certainly didn't want to upset anyone who wasn't ready to talk about it. And so she waited patiently for Amelia's answer, knowing full well that there was a chance she lead the conversation in a poor direction. "I'm... y'know." The twirling of her quill didn't go unnoticed by Aimee and her expression softened. "No one's exactly fine lately, though. Every had their... losses. Some people's were bigger, some smaller. But everyone was affected." The words were placed carefully and Aimee realized it was meant for her benefit. That made her smile a bit. "How about you?"
Aimee said nothing for a long moment. She wasn't one to willingly allow herself to feel vulnerable, but she wasn't one to lie either. Thankfully, she was smooth enough with her words that she could usually find a fair balance. "I'm..." she paused, considering her answer. "I'm better." She glanced at her hands in front of her, fingers stirring restlessly in a age-old habit she doubted she would ever break."Life moves forward," she said easily, trying to make it clear that she meant no offense by her words. "It was horrible what happened. It was awful, but it happened. Dwelling on it won't change anything." Her eyes shifted up to Amelia with a sad smile. "No matter how much we might wish it could." There was another little pause before Aimee shook her head dimly, a quiet chuckle passing her lips. "I'm sorry," she mumbled sheepishly. "I suppose we should get back to studying." Her eyes trailed down to her book easily - she didn't want to push Amelia away. She wasn't one to intentionally push people away - unless she felt as though they deserved it - and especially not someone she saw as a potential friend.

Amelia waited patiently as Aimee milled over it for a moment. Had she said the wrong thing? Amelia was just about to say that it didn't matter, when Aimee started to talk. "I'm..." she paused, obviously trying to pick the right words. "I'm better." she finally said, and Amelia nodded thoughtfully. She was glad that she was better, anyway. Amelia was also much better, since just after the attack she had barely talked. Whenever she did talk, it sounded as if she was a zombie come back to life. Extremely dull, at the least. "It was horrible what happened. It was awful, but it happened. Dwelling on it won't change anything." she continued, giving Amelia a sad smile. She returned the smile, as she continued talking. Slowly, but purposefully. "No matter how much we might wish it could." she said truthfully, and Amelia nodded again. It was unbelievably true. She doubted there wasn't a person in the Patronus Academy who hated what had happened. She doubted that there wasn't a person who had been affected, even if it had just been that they had been scratched. "I'm sorry." she said quietly, but Amelia shook her head ever so slightly. However, before Amelia had time to react, she continued. "I suppose we should get back to studying." she mumbled quietly, her eyes trailing down to her book. Even though she knew she should, she didn't look at her text book again. She kept her gaze fixated on Aimee.
"There's nothing to be sorry for." she said quietly, just so Aimee could hear her. "It's better for it to be out in the open that bundled in inside; unless one day you'll just crack." she explained slowly, and ever so slightly hypocritically. She had always bundled in her emotions, but had not yet burst. She felt as if showing deep emotions was a slight weakness. However, she would talk about her experience the night Hogwarts was attacked if she had the opportunity. "Of course, you don't have to do anything. Just a word of advice from someone with a lot of experience at cracking." she said light-heartedly, smiling at her. Amelia wasn't a person who smiled every minute of the day. However, when she did it was a nice sight. The edges of her eyes crinkled slightly, and she had dimples which had faded over time. Amelia guessed that they had faded because she hadn't used them alot. She doubted that she had even smiled once in the week after Hogwarts had been attacked. There had been nothing to smile about then, so what had been the point?

"There's nothing to be sorry for." Aimee's eyes shifted back to the girl sitting in front of her. "It's better for it to be out in the open then bundled in inside; unless one day you'll just crack." Amelia's tone was careful, the words coming forth in a slow, methodical manner. Aimee said nothing. She never spoke of that day simply because she hadn't been there. She had seen none of the attack, felt none of the cruel apprehension that those that had escaped had. Aimee had only felt the aftermath - and while it had struck her very hard, she didn't feel like there was much to say about the manner. Cecilia was dead. Nothing was going to change that. She was upset, yes, but Aimee had learned at a young age that letting yourself linger in the past could be harmful. Her own mother was deranged because she could never accept her husband's death. And now Aimee was without an older brother and hated by the one person that should have loved her because of it. The Lion had decided early on in life that she simply wouldn't allow things to bother her, and for the most part, she was very good at pretending - even to herself - that she was perfectly fine. It was just easier that way, and in her eyes, safer. She'd yet to have a breakdown to prove her wrong. And while she wasn't overly concerned about it, she recognized that if there ever did come a point where she did have a breakdown, it probably wouldn't be pretty.
"Of course, you don't have to do anything," Amelia said lightly. "Just a word of advice from someone with a lot of experience at cracking." Aimee returned the smile with a small nod before she swallowed thickly. "Did you lose anybody in the attack?" Her voice was incredibly soft, and the question was actually not the one that had explicitly left her mouth. Of course she had. Everyone had lost someone. The question was more of a who. And what the circumstances were. Had Amelia been there? Or had she been conveniently out of the castle when the raid had begun? The questions were buzzing in her head and while she knew it wasn't her place to ask such things, the words were biting at the end of her tongue to escape. There was so much she didn't know about that day. So much that others refused to talk about. She'd heard the stories, but she knew nothing could ever capture the story like surviving the attack.

"Did you lose anybody in the attack?" she said suddenly, causing Amelia's lip to tremble every so slightly. However, she swallowed, and brush a strand of hair out of her eyes. She knew that her loss hadn't been anything compared to some people's - who had lost a brother, or a girlfriend - but she had lost three friends. She hadn't been exceptionally close to any of them, but she had still cried more than she could allow. Possibly more than at her mother's funeral. Amelia nodded slowly, scanning Aimee. There was an obvious sadness there, so she had probably lost somebody as well. Then again, nearly everyone had. "3 close friends." she said shortly, her voice full with much more emotion that she would allow. However, she was pretty sure that Aimee didn't really care about Amelia being emotional in front of her. Some people were just that nice, that they didn't care about the mask that Amelia wore, hiding all of her emotions from outsiders. It was as if Amelia was built up with many, many layers. And the thickest layer was surely the one concealing her emotions. She took a deep breath, and made a quick decision. She trusted Aimee.
"The thing is, I've suffered more loss except for the attack of Hogwarts." she started, avoiding eye contact with her. "So, losing 3 friends wasn't that much of a blow." she carried on, she raised her gaze ever so slightly, fixating it on Aimee's text book. "My mum committed suicide in my 1st year." she said shortly, hoping that Aimee hadn't heard it. She had only told one or two people in Hogwarts about her mother, since she didn't want her fellow students to think that her mother was so miserable with Amelia as a child, that she committed suicide. She was sure this would be the conclusion that Carrow would jump to, and he would never forget it. "I left Hogwarts, and came back in my 3rd year." she carried on, and finally looked into Aimee's eyes, slightly flinching. "So, the loss wasn't such a blow."
