The Pro Wrestling Report

Updated December 16, 2012
Despite being called fake, wrestling is very dangerous and sometimes the wrestlers suffer severe injuries. Sometimes they happen in a match and are reported accurately. Sometimes the wrestler enters a match knowing they will be taking some time off for an injury and the writers will come up with an angle where it appears that the wrestler suffered an injury at the hands of an opponent to create an angle for when the wrestler returns. Other times, there is no legitimate injury. A fake injury is created to develop a feud. This list will take a look at which wrestlers are currently sitting on the sidelines due to an injury and will reveal both the real reason and the storyline reason that the wrestler is not in the ring.

Since this site is non-spoiler, I will not be listing any injuries that occurred at a pre-taped event until either the show airs or if the promotion lets the story out on their website prior to airing the program. This policy will also hold true for returns to the ring. If the return is a non-publicized surprise during a pre-taped event, I will not mention the return until the program airs.

RAW Brand Wrestlers on the D.L.
Alex Riley - Alex posted on his Twitter account that he had knee and elbow surgery in September. There is no timetable for his return.

CM Punk - In December, WWE Champion CM Punk had surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus. According to story lines, Punk got this injury when Ryback put him through a table. While I am not certain if the reason for his knee injury is legitimate, the surgery itself is. As a result, CM Punk will be missing a few weeks of action but will not be stripped of the title for missing the TLC PPV event.

Evan Bourne - In March, Evan tweeted that he had an accident that resulted in him breaking his right foot in four places and dislocating it in five. There is no timetable for his return to the ring.

Jack Swagger: In September, Jack announced on RAW that he will be taking some time off to regroup due to his horrific losing streak. This is all part of a storyline and it is not known when the All-American American will return to television.

Triple H - Triple H had his arm broken by Brock Lesnar during their match at SummerSlam. This "injury" is part of a storyline and there is no timetable for his return.

SmackDown Brand Wrestlers on the D.L.
Christian - In September, Christian appeared via satellite in a segment of SmackDown sporting a sling and claiming that he had shoulder surgery due to a Brogue Kick he received a year earlier. That explanation for his injury doesn't make storyline sense because he returned to the ring for several months after that kick and won the Intercontinental Championship. Despite the convoluted storyline explaining his absence, the injury is real and there is no timetable for his return.

Curt Hawkins - In October, Curt tweeted that he had surgery for a torn PCL & meniscus. There has been no timetable announced for his return.

Derrick Bateman - Derrick suffered a knee injury in a match against Antonio Cesaro in October. Multiple sources have written that he underwent knee surgery. There is no timetable for his return.

Mark Henry - In May, Mark announced on his Twitter account that he would be undergoing an unspecified surgery and that if he can't return to the ring better than ever than he will walk away from the business.

Randy Orton - During a December edition of SmackDown, Randy was out through a table by the Shield and suffered a separated shoulder. According to the Wrestling Observer & PWInsider.com, Orton suffered a legitimate shoulder separation a few days earlier during the filming of Tribute to the Troops. The televised attack was part of a storyline to explain his absence from television. There is no timetable for his return.

R-Truth - R-Truth is still out of action from the gash he suffered at the WWE TLC pay-per-view back in December. WWE officials don't even want him working out in the ring. There is a major concern over staph infection or something like that. The company is just being very careful with the situation.

Alex Riley - Alex posted on his Twitter account that he had knee and elbow surgery in September. There is no timetable for his return.

Evan Bourne - In March, Evan tweeted that he had an accident that resulted in him breaking his right foot in four places and dislocating it in five. There is no timetable for his return to the ring.

Triple H - Triple H had his arm broken by Brock Lesnar during their match at SummerSlam. This "injury" is part of a storyline and there is no timetable for his return.

Vince McMahon - In January, Brock Lesnar broke the Chirman's hip after hitting him with the F5. In reality, Vince needed surgery on his hip and this incident was used as a way to explain his injury. There is no timetable for Mr. McMahon's return to television.

Tyson Kidd - During a house show in December, Kidd hyperextended his knee. He underwent surgery to repair tears in his right ACL and meniscus and a slight tear in his MCL. WWE.com is reporting that this injury should take between 6-8 months to heal.

Rey Mysterio - Rey was supposedly hurt by Mark Henry on the 02/04/13 episode of RAW.

WWE Superstars on the D.L.

Bad News Barrett - Bad News suffered a shoulder injury in June and was stripped of the Intercontinental Championship a few days later. There is no timetable for his return.

Bo Dallas - In November Bo suffered an injury to his left foot. According to WWE.com, he will be out of action for six to eight weeks.

Christian - Christian suffered a concussion in March. There is no timetable for his return.

Daniel Bryan - In May, Daniel Bryan underwent neck surgery. The following month, he was stripped of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. In June, Daniel stated that he might need to have another surgery performed.

Darren Young - During a house show match against Fandango in April, Darren injured his knee and underwent ACL surgery. He will be out of action for 4 - 6 months.

Randy Orton - Randy was taken out of action via a Curb Stomp by Seth Rollins in November. This "injury" is all part of a storyline and there is no announced timetable for his return. He is currently filming The Condemned 2.

Rey Mysterio - Rey was last seen on WWE television in April but took some time off for an injury to his hand. However, the reason he hasn't been back is due to a contractual issue. According to several reports, Rey's contract was set to expire at the end of that month. However, WWE unilaterally extended the contract for one year due to Rey taking over a year off due to injury during the term of the prior contract. In a move which might indicate that legal action is coming, it has been reported that Rey has refused to cash any checks the company has sent him since the contract was extended. The thing that surprises me the most about these reports is that WWE Superstars get paid via check instead of direct deposit.

Roman Reigns - In September, Roman had emergency surgery to repair an incarcerated hernia. Based upon comments he made at Survivor Series 2014, he should be making his return to the ring in December.

Sheamus - In November, Sheamus suffered an attack at the hands of The Authority. According to WWE.com, he suffered a stinger in his arm, a narrowing of his spinal and nerve canals as well as nerve compression in his neck. The injuries are legitimate and there is no timetable for his return.

Tamina Snuka - Tamina underwent knee surgery in June. The typical recovery time for this type of surgery is six months.

Undertaker - At WrestleMania XXX, Undertaker suffered a concussion which required him to be hospitalized overnight. For the past few years, he has wrestled very sporadically around the time of WrestleMania to defend his streak. Since the streak ended, it is not known whether he will return next year.

Zack Ryder - In November, Zack Ryder announced that he had a rotator cuff injury and hopes that he can avoid surgery and be able to return to the ring in two months.

TNA Wrestlers on the D.L.

Dixie Carter - The owner of TNA was written out of the storylines of the company when she was put through a table by Bully Ray in August. There is no timetable for her character's return to television.

Kurt Angle - Kurt's underwent knee surgery in May to repair his ACL. The storyline reason for this injury was an attack by Ethan Carter III. Kurt will be out of action from four to six months.
