Punk strikes fan

On Raw, 10/08/12, Vince McMahon got on the mic letting Punk know it was decision time and he hoped he'd learned about respect. Vince then told Punk he has until next week's show to choose his Hell in a Cell opponent: Ryback or John Cena. As Vince was delivering the final words of the night, it appeared that Punk shoved one fan away from him. Another video, shown below, shows Punk backhanding another individual with sunglasses on in the face, before striking him a second time.

It's unknown what prompted the attack, but the strange ending to the show has plenty of people wondering. Some have tried to say this was a plant, but it looked far from that, and possibly a fan was getting a bit too "touchy-feely" with the champion, or said something to set him off. Nonetheless, one has to wonder if a lawsuit will be involved or any punishment from WWE towards Punk.

Check out the video footage below and decide: Was this part of the story or a random altercation in the crowd?

Matthew Ignatieff, who was at last night's RAW, stated that as CM Punk headed up the stairs and stopped during the closing segment of the show. A man attempted to push Punk down the stairs, which was followed by a flurry of fans pushing and shoving him. Punk turned around and told the fans to knock it off, and one of the fans continued to clock CM Punk in the back of the neck, which caused Punk to retaliate.

A clearer video of the incident is above.

Laura Cole of CBS 13 reported on her Twitter that she spoke to the fan that CM Punk struck, and the fan is reportedly filing charges.

"Just talked to the fan that says he was hit by @cmpunk," she wrote. "He says he never hit Punk. This fan says his face is a little warm after he says @cmpunk hit him. He also says Punk broke his glasses. The fan is still filling out a report with law enforcement."

Following an incident involving CM Punk and fans at Monday night's Raw event in Sacramento, California, WWE issued an official statement through its official website expressing regret that proper security measures were not set. The WWE Champion also gave his side of the story.

WWE's official statement reads: "During Monday night's Raw televised event, WWE Superstar CM Punk exited the ring and into the stands as part of the show. Unfortunately, WWE security was not in the appropriate place at the time. Given CM Punk's persona as a 'bad guy,' fans were naturally heckling him, but unfortunately a few fans began shoving him, and one struck him in the kidney and on the back. WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment. Other than this isolated incident, WWE always provides proper security to ensure the safety of our fans and our performers."

"I think the whole situation sucks," Punk told WWE.com. "It's an unfortunate and isolated incident. I was up in the stands, surrounded."

"Somebody said, 'let's push him down the stairs,'" Punk explained. "I got hit in the ribs three times. I was getting shoved and I was getting punched…Then I started getting tagged in the back of the head. Unfortunately, I lashed out in the heat of the moment and I apologize. I'm really just glad nobody was hurt."
